Fickle Followers		변덕스러운 신자들
[ John 12:12 - 12:19 ] - hymn 452 Behold, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey¡¯s colt. — John 12:15 How quickly public opinion can change! When Jesus entered Jerusalem for the Passover feast, He was welcomed by crowds cheering to have Him made king (John 12:13). But by the end of the week, the crowds were demanding that He be crucified (19:15). I recognize myself in those fickle crowds. I love cheering for a team that¡¯s winning, but my interest wanes when they start losing. I love being part of a movement that is new and exciting, but when the energy moves to a new part of town, I¡¯m ready to move on. I love following Jesus when He is doing the impossible, but I slink away when He expects me to do something difficult. It¡¯s exciting to follow Jesus when I can do it as part of the ¡°in¡± crowd. It¡¯s easy to trust Him when He outsmarts the smart people and outmaneuvers the people in power (see Matt.12:10; 22:15-46). But when He begins to talk about suffering and sacrifice and death, I hesitate. I like to think that I would have followed Jesus all the way to the cross—but I have my doubts. After all, if I don¡¯t speak up for Him in places where it¡¯s safe, what makes me think I would do so in a crowd of His opponents? How thankful I am that Jesus died for fickle followers so that we can become devoted followers.		[ 요한복음 12:12 - 12:19 ] - 찬송가 452 장 보라, 너의 왕이 나귀 새끼를 타고 오신다 - 요한복음 12:15 대중은 얼마나 변덕이 심한지요! 예수님이 유월절에 예루살렘으로 들어가실 때, 군중들은 주님을 왕으로 환호하며 맞이했습니다(요 12:13). 그러나 일주일이 지나기도 전에, 군중들은 예수님을 십자가에 못 박으라고 요구했습니다(19:15). 나 자신도 그 변덕스러운 군중과 매한가지임을 깨닫습니다. 팀이 이기고 있을 때 응원하는 것은 좋아하지만, 팀이 지기 시작하면 관심이 사그라집니다. 새롭고 활기찬 사회운동에 참여하는 것은 좋아하지만, 그 열기가 새로운 곳으로 옮겨갈 때면 나도 다른 것을 찾아 옮겨갈 준비를 합니다. 예수님이 불가능한 것을 행하실 때 주님을 따르는 것을 좋아하지만, 주님이 내게 뭔가 어려운 일을 기대하시면 조용히 옆으로 빠져나갑니다. 군중 “속의” 한 부분으로 내가 무얼 할 수 있을 때 예수님을 따르는 것은 신이 납니다. 주님이 지혜로운 사람보다 더 지혜롭고, 권력 있는 사람들을 주님이 노련하게 압도할 때는 주님을 신뢰하기 쉽습니다(마 12:10; 22:15-46 참조). 그렇지만 주님이 고통과 희생과 죽음을 이야기하기 시작하면 나는 주저합니다. 나는 내가 십자가를 지기까지 예수님을 따르겠다고 생각하지만, 그것도 의심스럽습니다. 어찌 되었든, 안전한 곳에서조차 내가 주님을 위해 목소리를 높이지 못한다면, 주님을 반대하는 무리 속에서 내가 그렇게 할 거라고 어떻게 생각할 수 있겠습니까? 예수님이 변덕스러운 신자들을 위해 돌아가심으로 우리로 하여금 헌신된 신자가 될 수 있도록 하신 것이 얼마나 감사한지요.

John 12:12-19; 19:14-16

[12] The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
[13] They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the King of Israel!"
[14] Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,
[15] "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt."
[16] At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.
[17] Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.
[18] Many people, because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign, went out to meet him.
[19] So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!"

[19:14] It was the day of Preparation of Passover Week, about the sixth hour. "Here is your king," Pilate said to the Jews.
[15] But they shouted, "Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!" "Shall I crucify your king?" Pilate asked. "We have no king but Caesar," the chief priests answered.
[16] Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus.

[17] 나사로를 무덤에서 불러내어 죽은 자 가운데서 살리실 때에 함께 있던 무리가 증언한지라
[18] 이에 무리가 예수를 맞음은 이 표적 행하심을 들었음이러라
[19] 바리새인들이 서로 말하되 볼지어다 너희 하는 일이 쓸 데 없다 보라 온 세상이 그를 따르는도다 하니라

[19:14] 이 날은 유월절의 준비일이요 때는 제육시라 빌라도가 유대인들에게 이르되 보라 너희 왕이로다
[15] 그들이 소리 지르되 없이 하소서 없이 하소서 그를 십자가에 못 박게 하소서 빌라도가 이르되 내가 너희 왕을 십자가에 못 박으랴 대제사장들이 대답하되 가이사 외에는 우리에게 왕이 없나이다 하니
[16] 이에 예수를 십자가에 못 박도록 그들에게 넘겨 주니라
