Becoming		무엇이 되는가
[ Luke 2:41 - 2:52 ] - hymn 542 Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. — Luke 2:52 I grew up in a small town. No famous people. No busy streets. Not much to do. Yet I¡¯ve always been thankful for my quiet, uncomplicated upbringing. One evening when my husband and I were attending a business dinner, a new acquaintance asked me where I was from. When I told her, she said, ¡°Aren¡¯t you embarrassed to admit it?¡± Unsure whether or not she was joking, I simply said, ¡°No.¡± Although my town was sometimes belittled for its lack of sophistication, it was not lacking in things that matter. My family was part of a church community in which parents brought up children ¡°in the training and admonition of the Lord¡±(Eph.6:4). Jesus also grew up in a small town: Nazareth. A man named Nathanael asked, ¡°Can anything good come out of Nazareth?¡±(John 1:46). Jesus proved that the answer is yes. Even though He grew up in an insignificant place, He was the most significant person in all of history. Experience taught me and Scripture confirms that what matters is not where you grow up but how you grow up. Sometimes we feel insignificant compared to sophisticated people from prominent places. But we are significant to God, and He can make us strong in spirit and filled with His wisdom.		[ 누가복음 2:41 - 2:52 ] - 찬송가 542 장 예수는 지혜와 키가 자라가며 하나님과 사람에게 더욱 사랑스러워 가시더라 - 누가복음 2:52 나는 작은 마을에서 자랐습니다. 유명한 사람도 없었고, 번화가도 없었으며, 할 일도 많지 않았습니다. 그래도 나는 조용하고 복잡하지 않은 나의 성장에 늘 감사해왔습니다. 어느 날 저녁 남편과 함께 사업상 만찬에 참석하고 있을 때, 새로 알게 된 어떤 사람이 내 고향이 어디인지를 물었습니다. 내가 대답하니 그녀는 “고향을 말하는 것이 쑥스럽지 않으세요”라고 물었습니다. 나는 그녀가 농담을 하는 건지 그렇지 않은 건지 몰라서 그저 “아니요.”라고만 짧게 대답했습니다. 비록 내 고향이 세련되지 못해 별 볼일 없이 여겨지기도 하지만, 중요한 것들이 없다는 뜻은 절대 아닙니다. 내 가족은 부모들이 자녀들을 “주의 교양과 훈계로 양육하는”(엡 6:4) 교회 공동체의 일원이었습니다. 예수님 역시 나사렛이라는 작은 마을에서 자랐습니다. 나다나엘이라는 사람은 “나사렛에서 무슨 선한 것이 날 수 있느냐”(요 1:46)라고 말하기도 했습니다. 그러나 예수님은 그럴 수 있다는 것을 증명해 보이셨습니다. 비록 주님은 보잘 것 없는 곳에서 성장하셨지만 역사상 가장 중요한 분이셨습니다. 중요한 것은 우리가 어디서 성장하는가가 아니라 어떻게 성장하는가인 것을 나는 경험으로 알았고 성경에서도 확인하였습니다. 우리는 때때로 잘 알려진 곳에서 온 세련된 사람들과 비교될 때 우리 자신이 중요하지 않은 것처럼 느끼게 됩니다. 그러나 우리는 하나님께 중요한 존재이며, 하나님은 우리를 영적으로 강건케 하시고 그분의 지혜로 가득 채워주십니다.

What we become is more important than where we¡¯re from.

Luke 2:41-52

[41] Every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover.
[42] When he was twelve years old, they went up to the Feast, according to the custom.
[43] After the Feast was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it.
[44] Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends.
[45] When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him.
[46] After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.
[47] Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.
[48] When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you."
[49] "Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?"
[50] But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
[51] Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
[52] And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

오 주여, 죄인을 온전케 하기 위해
주님이 무엇을 지불하셨는지 가르쳐주소서
한 영혼의 값어치가 얼마나 큰지
다시 새롭게 이해하도록 도와주소서!

우리가 어디서 왔는가 보다
우리가 무엇이 되느냐가 더 중요하다.

누가복음 2:41-52

[41] 그의 부모가 해마다 유월절이 되면 예루살렘으로 가더니
[42] 예수께서 열두 살 되었을 때에 그들이 이 절기의 관례를 따라 올라갔다가
[43] 그 날들을 마치고 돌아갈 때에 아이 예수는 예루살렘에 머무셨더라 그 부모는 이를 알지 못하고
[44] 동행 중에 있는 줄로 생각하고 하룻길을 간 후 친족과 아는 자 중에서 찾되
[45] 만나지 못하매 찾으면서 예루살렘에 돌아갔더니
[46] 사흘 후에 성전에서 만난즉 그가 선생들 중에 앉으사 그들에게 듣기도 하시며 묻기도 하시니
[47] 듣는 자가 다 그 지혜와 대답을 놀랍게 여기더라
[48] 그의 부모가 보고 놀라며 그의 어머니는 이르되 아이야 어찌하여 우리에게 이렇게 하였느냐 보라 네 아버지와 내가 근심하여 너를 찾았노라
[49] 예수께서 이르시되 어찌하여 나를 찾으셨나이까 내가 내 아버지 집에 있어야 될 줄을 알지 못하셨나이까 하시니
[50] 그 부모가 그가 하신 말씀을 깨닫지 못하더라
[51] 예수께서 함께 내려가사 나사렛에 이르러 순종하여 받드시더라 그 어머니는 이 모든 말을 마음에 두니라
[52] 예수는 지혜와 키가 자라가며 하나님과 사람에게 더욱 사랑스러워 가시더라
