TITANIC II		타이타닉 II
[ Jeremiah 17:5 - 17:10 ] - hymn 545 Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the LORD. - Jeremiah 17:5 Mark Wilkinson purchased a 16-foot boat for fishing and recreation. Apparently he was not superstitious, because he christened his boat Titanic II after the ill-fated luxury ship that hit an iceberg and sank in 1912. Titanic II¡¯s maiden voyage out of a harbor in Dorset, England, went well. But when Wilkinson headed back, the boat started taking on water. Soon he was clinging to a rail waiting for rescue. Wilkinson reportedly said, ¡°It¡¯s all a bit embarrassing, and I got pretty fed up with people asking me if I had hit an iceberg.¡± This was followed by an eyewitness who said, ¡°It wasn¡¯t a very big boat-I think an ice cube could have sunk it!¡± The story of Titanic II is quite ironic. But it also makes me think of the original Titanic and the danger of misplaced trust. The builders of that ocean liner were absolutely confident that their ship was unsinkable. But how wrong they were! Jeremiah reminds us: ¡°Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the LORD¡±(Jer.17:5). All of us are tempted to seek security in people or things. How often we need to be reminded to forsake these false confidences and turn back to God. Are you putting your trust in something other than Him? - Dennis Fisher		[ 예레미야 17:5 - 17:10 ] - 찬송가 545 장 무릇 사람을 믿으며 육신으로 그의 힘을 삼고 마음이 여호와에게서 떠난 그 사람은 저주를 받을 것이라 - 예레미야 17:5 마크 윌킨슨은 낚시와 휴양을 위해 5미터 크기의 보트를 구입하였습니다. 그는 그 배의 이름을 1912년에 빙산을 들이받고 가라앉은 불운의 호화유람선 이름을 따서 타이타닉 II라고 명명하였는데, 그것을 보면 그는 미신을 믿는 사람은 아닌 것 같았습니다. 타이타닉 II는 그의 첫 항해를 영국의 도셋 항에서 시작하여 잘 나아갔습니다. 그러나 윌킨슨이 다시 돌아오려 할 때 배에 물이 들어오기 시작했습니다. 얼마 안 가서 그는 난간에 매달려 구조를 기다리게 되었습니다. 윌킨슨은 이렇게 말했다고 합니다. “사실 좀 당황스러웠고, 사람들이 내가 혹시 빙산에 부딪치지 않았나 하고 묻는 데에 진저리가 났습니다.” 한 목격자는 다음과 같이 덧붙였습니다. “그 배는 그렇게 큰 배는 아니었어요. 내 생각에는 조그마한 얼음 한 덩어리라도 그 배를 가라앉힐 수 있었을 거예요!” 타이타닉 II의 이야기는 아주 아이러니 합니다. 그렇지만 그 이야기는 나에게 원래의 타이타닉호를 생각하게 해주었고, 잘못된 믿음에 대한 위험성도 생각나게 해주었습니다. 그 유람선을 만든 회사는 그 배가 절대로 가라앉지 않을 것이라고 확신했습니다. 그렇지만 그 생각이 얼마나 잘못된 것이었는지요! 예레미야는 우리에게 다음과 같이 상기시켜 줍니다, “무릇 사람을 믿으며 육신으로 그의 힘을 삼고 마음이 여호와에게서 떠난 그 사람은 저주를 받을 것이라”(렘 17:5). 우리는 모두 사람이나 물건들을 통해서 안전을 구하고자 하는 유혹을 받습니다. 우리는 얼마나 자주 이런 그릇된 확신을 버리고 하나님께 되돌아가야 한다는 것을 기억해야 할 필요가 있는지 모릅니다. 당신은 하나님이 아닌 다른 무엇인가에 자신을 의지하고 있지는 않습니까?

When we put our trust in You, Lord,
We¡¯ll be like a tree that¡¯s growing
Beside waters that are flowing,
Bearing fruit and standing strong. - Sper

Those who put their trust in God
will never be disappointed.

Jeremiah 17:5-10

[5] This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD.
[6] He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
[7] "But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.
[8] He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."
[9] The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
[10] "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve."

주님, 우리가 주님을 신뢰할 때
우리는 흐르는 물가에서
자라나는 나무와 같이 되어
열매를 맺으며 굳건히 서있을 것입니다

하나님을 신뢰하는 이들은 결코 실망하지 않을 것이다.

예레미야 17:5-10

[5] 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 무릇 사람을 믿으며 육신으로 그의 힘을 삼고 마음이 여호와에게서 떠난 그 사람은 저주를 받을 것이라
[6] 그는 사막의 떨기나무 같아서 좋은 일이 오는 것을 보지 못하고 광야 간조한 곳, 건건한 땅, 사람이 살지 않는 땅에 살리라
[7] 그러나 무릇 여호와를 의지하며 여호와를 의뢰하는 그 사람은 복을 받을 것이라
[8] 그는 물 가에 심어진 나무가 그 뿌리를 강변에 뻗치고 더위가 올지라도 두려워하지 아니하며 그 잎이 청청하며 가무는 해에도 걱정이 없고 결실이 그치지 아니함 같으리라
[9] 만물보다 거짓되고 심히 부패한 것은 마음이라 누가 능히 이를 알리요마는
[10] 나 여호와는 심장을 살피며 폐부를 시험하고 각각 그의 행위와 그의 행실대로 보응하나니
