[ Titus 3:1 - 3:8 ] - hymn 268 Be ready for every good work. - Titus 3:1 My first bike had one gear. Whether I was going fast or slow, uphill or downhill, that gear did everything. My next bike had three gears: one for level surfaces, one for going uphill, and one for going downhill. My third bike had ten gears, allowing me an even broader range of choices. Even though my last bike had several gears to choose from, I didn¡¯t use all of them every time I rode. Some were best suited for starting and climbing, others were reserved for gaining speed, and others were best for a leisurely pace. But the thing about gears is this: Even though I wasn¡¯t using all of them at the time, it didn¡¯t mean I would never need them. The same can be true in regard to our spiritual gifts and abilities. During times when I feel I am not being used to do certain things I once did, instead of feeling useless and unappreciated I thank God for the ¡°gear¡± I¡¯m currently able to use. Just because a skill is not needed right now doesn¡¯t mean it never will be. Our spiritual gifts are needed in different ways at different times. Needs and circumstances change in unforeseeable and unpredictable ways. The apostle Paul reminded Titus, ¡°Be ready for every good work¡± (Titus 3:1). May that be true of us as well. - Julie Ackerman Link		[ 디도서 3:1 - 3:8 ] - 찬송가 268 장 모든 선한 일 행하기를 준비하게 하며 - 디도서 3:1 나의 첫 번째 자전거에는 기어가 하나밖에 없었습니다. 내가 빨리 가든 천천히 가든, 오르막길이든 내리막길이든 그 기어 하나로 다 했습니다. 두 번째 자전거에는 3단 기어가 있었습니다. 하나는 평지를 달릴 때, 하나는 오르막길을 오를 때, 그리고 다른 하나는 내리막길을 위한 것이었습니다. 세 번째 자전거에는 10단 기어가 있어서, 선택의 범위가 더 넓어졌습니다. 하지만 비록 내 마지막 자전거에 선택할 수 있는 여러 개의 기어가 있었지만, 자전거를 탈 때마다 모든 기어를 다 사용하지는 않았습니다. 어떤 기어들은 출발할 때나 오르막길을 오를 때 아주 좋고, 다른 몇몇은 가속할 때, 그리고 다른 것들은 느긋한 속도로 가는데 아주 좋았습니다. 그렇지만 기어들에 대해 중요한 사실은 이것입니다. 비록 내가 모든 기어들을 한 번에 다 사용하지는 않지만, 그렇다고 그 사용하지 않는 기어들이 전혀 필요 없는 것은 아니라는 것입니다. 우리의 영적인 은사와 재능도 마찬가지입니다. 내가 예전에는 능숙하게 했었던 일인데 지금은 잘 할 수 없다고 느낄 때, 쓸모없고 인정받지 못한다고 느끼는 대신 나는 지금 사용할 수 있는 “기어”에 대해 하나님께 감사합니다. 지금 당장 필요하지 않은 기술이라 해서 앞으로도 소용없다는 것을 뜻하는 것은 아니기 때문입니다. 우리의 영적인 은사들은 서로 다른 때에 다른 방법으로 필요합니다. 필요와 환경은 미리 알 수도 예상할 수도 없는 방식으로 변합니다. 바울사도는 디도에게 “모든 선한 일 행하기를 예비하라”(딛 3:1)라고 상기시켰습니다. 우리에게도 마찬가지로 적용되는 말씀일 것입니다.

Heavenly Father, I need to remember that
what I do is up to You, but how I do it is up
to me. Whether I am busy or still, may I be
peaceable, gentle, humble, kind, and loving.

Keep your tools ready-God will find work for you.

Titus 3:1-8

[1] Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,
[2] to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.
[3] At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
[4] But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,
[5] he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
[6] whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
[7] so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
[8] This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

하늘에 계신 아버지, 제가 해야 할 일은 아버지께 달려 있고,
그것을 어떻게 할 것인가는 제게 달려 있음을 기억하기를 원합니다.
제가 분주하든 한가롭든, 저로 하여금 평화롭고, 온유하고, 겸손하고,
친절하며, 사랑하는 사람이 되게 하소서.

도구를 항상 준비하고 있으라.
하나님께서 당신이 할 일을 찾아 주실 것이다.

디도서 3:1-8

[1] 너는 그들로 하여금 통치자들과 권세 잡은 자들에게 복종하며 순종하며 모든 선한 일 행하기를 준비하게 하며
[2] 아무도 비방하지 말며 다투지 말며 관용하며 범사에 온유함을 모든 사람에게 나타낼 것을 기억하게 하라
[3] 우리도 전에는 어리석은 자요 순종하지 아니한 자요 속은 자요 여러 가지 정욕과 행락에 종 노릇 한 자요 악독과 투기를 일삼은 자요 가증스러운 자요 피차 미워한 자였으나
[4] 우리 구주 하나님의 자비와 사람 사랑하심이 나타날 때에
[5] 우리를 구원하시되 우리가 행한 바 의로운 행위로 말미암지 아니하고 오직 그의 긍휼하심을 따라 중생의 씻음과 성령의 새롭게 하심으로 하셨나니
[6] 우리 구주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 그 성령을 풍성히 부어 주사
[7] 우리로 그의 은혜를 힘입어 의롭다 하심을 얻어 영생의 소망을 따라 상속자가 되게 하려 하심이라
[8] 이 말이 미쁘도다 원하건대 너는 이 여러 것에 대하여 굳세게 말하라 이는 하나님을 믿는 자들로 하여금 조심하여 선한 일을 힘쓰게 하려 함이라 이것은 아름다우며 사람들에게 유익하니라
