A SENSE OF HISTORY		역사의식
[ 1 Corinthians 10:1 - 10:13 ] - hymn 449 All these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition. — 1 Corinthians 10:11 As my wife and I toured the British Museum, we were struck by the history and legacy contained in that massive facility in London. We looked at artifacts that were centuries older than anything found in the United States, reminding me how valuable it is to have a sense of history. History gives us a record of perspective, context, and consequences that can help us make wise choices as we learn from both the successes and failures of those who have gone before us. Paul also saw the value of embracing the lessons of history. He warned of the destructive nature of bad choices by recounting the story of the children of Israel and their wilderness wanderings-a result of their refusal to trust God and enter the Promised Land(see Num. 14). Then Paul told the believers in Corinth, ¡°All these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come¡±(1 Cor. 10:11). God has given us the Bible, partly to help us learn from the history of His people. Biblical lessons contain both examples and warnings to guard us against our worst inclinations and to lead us into wiser living. The question is whether we will learn from the lessons of the past or repeat the mistakes of those who came before us. - Bill Crowder		[ 고린도전서 10:1 - 10:13 ] - 찬송가 449 장 그들에게 일어난 이런 일은 본보기가 되고 … 우리를 깨우치기 위하여 기록되었느니라 - 고린도전서 10:11 아내와 함께 대영박물관을 돌아보면서 우리는 런던에 있는 그 거대한 시설에 보존되어 있는 역사와 유산들에 놀랐습니다. 미국에서 발견된 어떤 것들보다 수 세기나 더 오래 된 유물들을 보면서, 역사의식을 가진다는 것이 얼마나 소중한 것인지를 깨닫게 되었습니다. 역사란 앞서간 우리 선조들의 관점과 사건들의 전후관계, 그리고 그 결과에 대한 기록으로서, 그들의 성공과 실패 모두를 통해 우리가 현명한 선택을 할 수 있도록 도와줍니다. 바울도 역사의 교훈을 받아들이는 것을 중요하게 여겼습니다. 그는 하나님을 신뢰하지 못하고 약속의 땅으로 들어가기를 거부한 이스라엘 자손들과 그들이 광야에서 방황했던 것을(민수기 14장 참조)을 상기시키면서, 잘못된 선택이 갖는 파괴적인 속성에 대해 경고하였습니다. 그러고 나서 “그들에게 일어난 이런 일은 본보기가 되고 또한 말세를 만난 우리를 깨우치기 위하여 기록되었느니라”(고전 10:11)라고 고린도 교인들에게 일러주었습니다. 하나님이 우리에게 성경을 주신 이유 중의 하나는 하나님의 백성들의 역사를 통해 우리가 교훈을 얻도록 하기 위함입니다. 예화와 경고를 통해 나타나는 성경의 교훈들은 우리로 하여금 악한 길로 빠지는 것을 막아주며 더 현명한 삶의 길로 인도해줍니다. 문제는 우리가 과거의 교훈을 통해 배울 것인가, 아니면 우리 선조들이 범했던 잘못을 되풀이할 것인가 하는 것입니다.

Lord, teach us from the stories in Your Word.
We know You¡¯ve put them there to guide us and
give us wisdom. Help us to make obedience
out of love for You our purpose. Amen.

Valuable lessons are learned from examining
the lives of God¡¯s people who¡¯ve gone before.

1 Corinthians 10:1-13

[1] Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,
[2] all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
[3] all ate the same spiritual food,
[4] and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
[5] But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.
[6] Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.
[7] And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play."
[8] Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;
[9] nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;
[10] nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
[11] Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
[12] Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
[13] No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

주님, 우리를 인도하고 지혜를 주는
주님의 말씀으로 우리를 가르치소서
주님을 향한 사랑으로 말미암은 순종이
우리 삶의 목적이 되게 도와주소서. 아멘

앞서간 하나님의 백성들의 삶을 조명함으로써
귀중한 교훈들을 배울 수 있다.

고린도전서 10:1-13

[1] 형제들아 나는 너희가 알지 못하기를 원하지 아니하노니 우리 조상들이 다 구름 아래에 있고 바다 가운데로 지나며
[2] 모세에게 속하여 다 구름과 바다에서 세례를 받고
[3] 모두가 같은 신령한 음식을 먹으며
[4] 모두가 같은 신령한 음료를 뒤따르는 신령한 반석으로부터 마셨으니 그 반석은 곧 그리스도시라
[5] 그러나 그들의 다수를 하나님이 기뻐하지 아니하셨으므로 그들이 광야에서 멸망을 받았느니라
[6] 이러한 일은 우리들의 본보기가 되어 우리로 하여금 그들이 악을 즐겨한 것 같이 즐겨하는 자가 되지 않게 하려 함이니
[7] 그들 가운데 어떤 사람들과 같이 너희는 우상 숭배하는 자가 되지 말라 기록된 바 백성이 앉아서 먹고 마시며 일어나서 뛰논다 함과 같으니라
[8] 그들 중의 어떤 사람들이 음행하다가 하루에 이만 삼천 명이 죽었나니 우리는 그들과 같이 음행하지 말자
[9] 그들 가운데 어떤 사람들이 주를 시험하다가 뱀에게 멸망하였나니 우리는 그들과 같이 시험하지 말자
[10] 그들 가운데 어떤 사람들이 원망하다가 멸망시키는 자에게 멸망하였나니 너희는 그들과 같이 원망하지 말라
[11] 그들에게 일어난 이런 일은 본보기가 되고 또한 말세를 만난 우리를 깨우치기 위하여 기록되었느니라
[12] 그런즉 선 줄로 생각하는 자는 넘어질까 조심하라
[13] 사람이 감당할 시험 밖에는 너희가 당한 것이 없나니 오직 하나님은 미쁘사 너희가 감당하지 못할 시험 당함을 허락하지 아니하시고 시험 당할 즈음에 또한 피할 길을 내사 너희로 능히 감당하게 하시느니라
