[ Galatians 2:11 - 2:21 ] - hymn 350 When Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed. -Galatians 2:11 Is it possible that technological advances in communication have left us unable to confront people properly? After all, employers can now send layoff notices via e-mail. And people can criticize others on Facebook and Twitter instead of talking face to face. Perhaps it might be better to put all that aside and emulate how Paul communicated with Peter when they had a disagreement. Paul had to confront Peter for compromising grace(Gal. 2:11-16). Peter had been fellowshiping with Gentiles, but when the Judaizers arrived(who believed that sinners are saved through Jesus plus keeping the law of Moses), Peter separated himself from the Gentiles. He ostracized them while professing to be one with them. Seeing this hypocrisy, Paul, in love and with passion, confronted Peter face to face for cowering to a legalistic system that was powerless to change lives. He vigorously reminded Peter that grace leads to freedom from sin¡¯s slavery and to obedience to God. Having courageous conversations with fellow Christians can be difficult, but they will promote purity and unity. We can carry out our responsibility to one another to speak the truth in love(Eph. 4:15) by walking in the power of the Holy Spirit. - Marvin Williams		[ 갈라디아서 2:11 - 2:21 ] - 찬송가 350 장 게바가 안디옥에 이르렀을 때에 책망받을 일이 있기로 내가 그를 대면하여 책망 하였노라 - 갈라디아서 2:11 통신기술의 발달로 인하여 우리가 사람들을 제대로 대면하지 못하게 되는 일이 가능할까요? 어쨌든 최근에는 고용주들이 해고통지를 이메일로 보내기도 하고, 사람들이 다른 이들을 비판할 때에도 얼굴을 마주하며 이야기 하지 않고 페이스북이나 트위터를 통해서 할 수도 있습니다. 그런 경우들은 일단 제쳐 놓고, 바울과 베드로가 서로 생각이 달랐을 때 그들의 소통했던 방식대로 따라하는 것이 더 좋을 듯합니다. 바울은 베드로가 하나님 은혜를 훼손한 것에 대해 책망을 해야 했습니다(갈 2:11-16). 베드로가 이방인들과 친교를 하고 있을 때 할례자들(죄인이 구원을 받으려면 예수님도 믿고 모세의 율법도 지켜야한다고 믿었던 사람들)이 들어오자 베드로는 이방인들로부터 자리를 옮겨 앉았습니다. 그들과 하나라고 고백하고서도 그들을 멀리했던 것입니다. 이런 위선을 보고, 바울은 삶을 변화시키지 못하는 힘없는 율법주의에 베드로가 위축되는 것을 면전에서 사랑과 열정으로 책망하였습니다. 바울은 베드로에게 우리가 죄의 속박에서 해방되어 하나님께 순종하는 삶으로 나아가는 것은 은혜로 말미암는 것이라고 강렬하게 상기시켰습니다. 믿음의 친구와 용기 있는 대화를 하는 것이 쉽지는 않을 것입니다. 그러나 그것은 순전함과 연합을 강화시킵니다. 우리가 성령님의 능력 안에 거할 때, 우리는 서로에게 사랑 안에서 진실을 말하는(엡 4:15) 책임을 다할 수 있습니다.

Lord, give us courage to confront
Believers who have strayed;
And then with gentleness restore
By coming to their aid. - Sper

Galatians 2:11-21

[11] Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed;
[12] for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.
[13] And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.
[14] But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews?
[15] "We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
[16] "knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
[17] "But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not!
[18] "For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
[19] "For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God.
[20] "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
[21] "I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."

주님, 믿는 자들이 옆길로 나갈 때
그들과 대면할 수 있는 용기를 주소서
온유한 마음으로 그들을 도와
그들이 회복되게 하여 주소서

잘 선택된 말은 엄청난 힘을 발휘한다.

갈라디아서 2:11-21

[11] 게바가 안디옥에 이르렀을 때에 책망받을 일이 있기로 내가 그를 대면하여 책망하였노라
[12] 야고보에게서 온 어떤 이들이 이르기 전에 게바가 이방인과 함께 먹다가 그들이 오매 그가 할례자들을 두려워하여 떠나 물러가매
[13] 남은 유대인들도 그와 같이 외식하므로 바나바도 그들의 외식에 유혹되었느니라
[14] 그러므로 나는 그들이 복음의 진리를 따라 바르게 행하지 아니함을 보고 모든 자 앞에서 게바에게 이르되 네가 유대인으로서 이방인을 따르고 유대인답게 살지 아니하면서 어찌하여 억지로 이방인을 유대인답게 살게 하려느냐 하였노라
[15] 우리는 본래 유대인이요 이방 죄인이 아니로되
[16] 사람이 의롭게 되는 것은 율법의 행위로 말미암음이 아니요 오직 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 말미암는 줄 알므로 우리도 그리스도 예수를 믿나니 이는 우리가 율법의 행위로써가 아니고 그리스도를 믿음으로써 의롭다 함을 얻으려 함이라 율법의 행위로써는 의롭다 함을 얻을 육체가 없느니라
[17] 만일 우리가 그리스도 안에서 의롭게 되려 하다가 죄인으로 드러나면 그리스도께서 죄를 짓게 하는 자냐 결코 그럴 수 없느니라
[18] 만일 내가 헐었던 것을 다시 세우면 내가 나를 범법한 자로 만드는 것이라
[19] 내가 율법으로 말미암아 율법에 대하여 죽었나니 이는 하나님에 대하여 살려 함이라
[20] 내가 그리스도와 함께 십자가에 못 박혔나니 그런즉 이제는 내가 사는 것이 아니요 오직 내 안에 그리스도께서 사시는 것이라 이제 내가 육체 가운데 사는 것은 나를 사랑하사 나를 위하여 자기 자신을 버리신 하나님의 아들을 믿는 믿음 안에서 사는 것이라
[21] 내가 하나님의 은혜를 폐하지 아니하노니 만일 의롭게 되는 것이 율법으로 말미암으면 그리스도께서 헛되이 죽으셨느니라
