CAN I TRUST YOU?		믿어도 될까?
[ Joshua 9:1 - 9:16 ] - hymn 546 The LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. - 1 Chronicles 28:9 According to lie-detection experts, "Our natural tendency is to trust people." However, not everyone is trustworthy all the time. Signs that someone may be lying include fidget-ing, lack of eye contact, and notice-able pauses in speaking. Even with these clues, experts warn that it is still quite tough to tell deceivers from hon-est people. Joshua needed to know if he could trust the Gibeonites. When they dis-covered that God wanted him to get rid of some neighboring nations (Josh.9:24), they pretended to be from a faraway land. They arrived in worn-out tunics and patched sandals, claim-ing, "Our garments and our sandals have become old because of the very long journey"(v.13). The Israelites were suspicious (v.7), but they "did not ask counsel of the Lord"(v.14); and Joshua unwisely made a peace treaty with the deceivers. Many want to gain our trust: salespeople, financial advi-sors, or estranged family members. If we wonder: "Can I trust you?" we shouldn't decide quickly, based only on what seems right to us. It's better to seek counsel from God's Word (Ps. 119:105), godly people (Prov. 11:14), and God Himself (James 1:5). Wisdom from above will help us decide who to trust. -Jennifer Benson Schuldt		[ 여호수아 9:1 - 9:16 ] - 찬송가 546 장 여호와께서는 모든 마음을 감찰하사 모든 의도를 아시나니 - 역대상 28:9 거짓말탐지 전문가들은 “우리들에게는 일반적으로 사람을 믿는 경향이 있다.”라고 합니다. 그러나 언제나 모든 사람을 항상 믿을 수 있는 것은 아닙니다. 어떤 사람이 안절부절 못하거나, 눈을 마주치지 못하고, 말할 때 눈에 띄게 머뭇거리는 것 등은 그가 거짓말을 하고 있다는 표시일 수 있습니다. 그러나 이런 단서가 있더라도 정직한 사람과 거짓말 하는 사람을 구분하기는 매우 어렵다고 전문가들은 말합니다. 여호수아는 기브온 사람들을 믿을 수 있는지를 알아보아야 했습니다. 기브온 사람들은 하나님이 여호수아에게 접경 국가들을 멸하라고 명하신 것을 알고는(수 9:24), 먼나라에서 온 것처럼 위장하여 낡은 겉옷과 기운 신발을 신고 와서 “우리가 포도주를 담은 이 가죽 부대도 새 것이었으나 찢어지게 되었으며 우리의 이 옷과 신도 여행이 매우 길었으므로 낡아졌나이다”(13절)라고 둘러댔습니다. 이스라엘 사람들은 의심스러웠지만(7절) “어떻게 할지를 여호와께 묻지 아니하고”(14절), 여호수아도 이렇게 속이는 자들과 지혜롭지 못하게 평화조약을 맺었습니다. 판매원이나 재무상담사, 혹은 소원해졌던 가족 등, 많은 사람들이 우리의 신뢰를 얻고 싶어 합니다. 우리는 “믿어도 될까?”라는 의심이 들 때, 옳은 것처럼 보이는 것에만 근거하여 성급하게 결정하면 안 됩니다. 하나님의 말씀(시 119:105)과 하나님의 사람들(잠 11:14), 그리고 하나님 그분(약 1:5)의 권고를 따르는 것이 더 좋습니다. 하늘로부터의 지혜는 우리가 누구를 신뢰할 수 있는지를 판단하는데 도움이 될 것입니다.

Joshua 9:1-16

[1] And it came to pass when all the kings who were on this side of the Jordan, in the hills and in the lowland and in all the coasts of the Great Sea toward Lebanon--the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite--heard about it,
[2] that they gathered together to fight with Joshua and Israel with one accord.
[3] But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,
[4] they worked craftily, and went and pretended to be ambassadors. And they took old sacks on their donkeys, old wineskins torn and mended,
[5] old and patched sandals on their feet, and old garments on themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry and moldy.
[6] And they went to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, "We have come from a far country; now therefore, make a covenant with us."
[7] Then the men of Israel said to the Hivites, "Perhaps you dwell among us; so how can we make a covenant with you?"
[8] But they said to Joshua, "We are your servants." And Joshua said to them, "Who are you, and where do you come from?"
[9] So they said to him£º "From a very far country your servants have come, because of the name of the LORD your God; for we have heard of His fame, and all that He did in Egypt,
[10] "and all that He did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan--to Sihon king of Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.
[11] "Therefore our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, 'Take provisions with you for the journey, and go to meet them, and say to them, "We are your servants; now therefore, make a covenant with us."'
[12] "This bread of ours we took hot for our provision from our houses on the day we departed to come to you. But now look, it is dry and moldy.
[13] "And these wineskins which we filled were new, and see, they are torn; and these our garments and our sandals have become old because of the very long journey."
[14] Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask counsel of the LORD.
[15] So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them.
[16] And it happened at the end of three days, after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors who dwelt near them.

주여, 우리에게 거짓말을 하고
우리를 이용하기 위해 꾀를 내며
우리가 해야 할 판단을 혼동시키는 기만자들로부터
우리를 보호해주소서

분별력이 필요하다고 느낀다면
그것은 기도하라는 하나님의 부르심이다.

[1] 요단 서편 산지와 평지와 레바논 앞 대 해변에 있는 헷 사람과 아모리 사람과 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람과 히위 사람과 여부스사람의 모든 왕이 이 일을 듣고
[2] 모여서 일심으로 여호수아와 이스라엘로 더불어 싸우려 하더라
[3] 기브온 거민들이 여호수아의 여리고와 아이에 행한 일을 듣고
[4] 꾀를 내어 사신의 모양을 꾸미되 해어진 전대와 해어지고 찢어져서 기운 가죽 포도주 부대를 나귀에 싣고
[5] 그 발에는 낡아 기운 신을 신고 낡은 옷을 입고 다 마르고 곰팡이 난 떡을 예비하고
[6] 그들이 길갈 진으로 와서 여호수아에게 이르러 그와 이스라엘 사람들에게 이르되 우리는 원방에서 왔나이다 이제 우리와 약조하 사이다
[7] 이스라엘 사람들이 히위 사람들에게 이르되 너희가 우리 중에 거하는 듯하니 우리가 어떻게 너희와 약조할 수 있으랴
[8] 그들이 여호수아에게 이르되 우리는 당신의 종이니이다 여호수아가 그들에게 묻되 너희는 누구며 어디서 왔느뇨
[9] 그들이 여호수아에게 대답하되 종들은 당신의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 인하여 심히 먼 지방에서 왔사오니 이는 우리가 그의 명성과 그가 애굽에서 행하신 모든 일을 들으며
[10] 또 그가 요단 동편에 있는 아모리 사람의 두 왕 곧 헤스본 왕 시혼과 아스다롯에 있는 바산 왕 옥에게 행하신 모든 일을 들었음 이니이다
[11] 그러므로 우리 장로들과 우리 나라의 모든 거민이 우리에게 일러 가로되 너희는 여행할 양식을 손에 가지고 가서 그들을 맞아서 그들에게 이르기를 우리는 당신들의 종이니 청컨대 이제 우리와 약조하사이다 하라 하였나이다
[12] 우리의 이 떡은 우리가 당신들에게로 오려고 떠나던 날에 우리들의 집에서 오히려 뜨거운 것을 양식으로 취하였더니 보소서 이제 말랐고 곰팡이 났으며
[13] 또 우리가 포도주를 담은 이 가죽 부대도 새 것이더니 찢어지게 되었으며 우리의 이 옷과 신도 여행이 심히 길므로 인하여 낡아 졌나이다 한지라
[14] 무리가 그들의 양식을 취하고 어떻게 할 것을 여호와께 묻지 아니하고
[15] 여호수아가 곧 그들과 화친하여 그들을 살리리라는 언약을 맺고 회중 족장들이 그들에게 맹세하였더라
[16] 그들과 언약을 맺은 후 삼일이 지나서야 그들은 근린에 있어 자기들 중에 거주하는 자라 함을 들으니라
