Worth The Effort?		수고할 가치?
[ Psalms 19:7 - 19:11 ] - hymn 240 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for ... righteousness. — 2 Timothy 3:16 I once resolved to read all 38 of Shakespeare¡¯s plays in one year. To my surprise, fulfilling the task seemed far more like entertainment than work. I expected to learn about Shakespeare¡¯s world and the people who inhabited it, but I found that Shakespeare mainly taught me about my world. I went through precisely that same process in encountering the Old Testament. Why does it spend so much time on temples, priests, and rules about sacrifices that no longer exist? How can we make sense of the Old Testament, and how does it apply to our lives today? As I worked past some of the barriers, I came to feel a need to read because of what it was teaching me. Eventually I found myself wanting to read those 39 books. They were satisfying a hunger in me that nothing else had. They taught me about life with God. The Old Testament speaks to our hunger. It gives an advanced course of ¡°Life With God,¡± expressed in a style both personal and passionate. The rewards offered do not come easily. All achievements require a similar process of hard work; we persevere because the rewards will come.		[ 시편 19:7 - 19:11 ] - 찬송가 240 장 모든 성경은 하나님의 감동으로 된 것으로 교훈과 책망과 바르게 함과 의로 교육하기에 유익하니 - 디모데후서 3:16 셰익스피어의 희곡 38편을 1년 안에 다 읽기로 결심한 적이 있었습니다. 놀라운 일은 이 결심을 완수하는 것이 힘든 일이라기보다는 즐거운 오락에 훨씬 더 가까웠다는 것입니다. 희곡을 읽으면서 나는 셰익스피어의 세계와 그 세계의 사람들에 대해 알게 되기를 기대했습니다. 그런데 기대한 것과 달리 셰익스피어가 주로 나의 세계에 대하여 가르쳐 주었습니다. 나는 구약성경을 읽으면서 똑같은 과정을 거쳤습니다. 왜 구약성경은 성소, 제사장, 그리고 지금은 있지도 않는 희생 제물에 대한 법규를 설명하는데 그렇게도 많은 지면을 할애했을까? 이러한 내용을 어떻게 이해할 것이며 오늘날 우리의 삶에 어떻게 적용을 할 수 있을까? 이러한 의문의 고비를 넘기고 나니, 나는 구약에서 배울 것이 있다고 여겨져 한 번 읽어 볼 필요성을 느끼게 되었습니다. 마침내 나는 구약 39권을 전부 다 읽어야 되겠다고 생각하게 되었습니다. 구약은 그 무엇도 채워주지 못하던 나의 갈증을 해소해 주었습니다. 구약 39권은 하나님과 함께 살아가는 삶을 가르쳐 주었습니다. 구약은 우리의 영적 굶주림을 채워줍니다. 구약은 인격적이면서 열정적인 스타일로 표현된 “하나님과 함께 사는 삶”이라는 제목의 고급강좌입니다. 보람된 결과는 쉽게 오는 것이 아닙니다. 사람들이 이루는 모든 성취는 이와 비슷한 힘든 노력을 요구합니다. 그러나 보람된 결과를 기대하기에 우리는 끝까지 참고 노력하게 됩니다.

Psalm 19:7-11

[7] The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
[8] The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
[9] The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
[10] More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
[11] Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.

각 장마다 깔려 있는
태양 같이 장엄한 영광은
모든 세대를 비추어 주는데
그것은 주기만 하는 빛이네

[7] 여호와의 율법은 완전하여 영혼을 소성시키며 여호와의 증거는 확실하여 우둔한 자를 지혜롭게 하며
[8] 여호와의 교훈은 정직하여 마음을 기쁘게 하고 여호와의 계명은 순결하여 눈을 밝게 하시도다
[9] 여호와를 경외하는 도는 정결하여 영원까지 이르고 여호와의 법도 진실하여 다 의로우니
[10] 금 곧 많은 순금보다 더 사모할 것이며 꿀과 송이꿀보다 더 달도다
[11] 또 주의 종이 이것으로 경고를 받고 이것을 지킴으로 상이 크니이다
