[ Romans 1:18 - 1:24 ] - hymn 13 Since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made. — Romans 1:20 Scottish-American John Muir (1838-1914) was raised by a Christian father who placed great emphasis on Scripture memory. By young adulthood, John allegedly could recite from memory all of the New Testament and large portions of the Old Testament. As a young man, Muir developed a great love for God¡¯s creation and viewed it as a source for understanding God. Historian Dennis Williams says that Muir referred to creation as the ¡°Book of Nature.¡± While exploring the wilderness, he was able to study the plants and animals in an environment that ¡°came straight from the hand of God, uncorrupted by civilization and domestication.¡± Muir went on to lead the forest conservation movement and was instrumental in creating many US national parks, including Yosemite, Sequoia, and Mount Rainier. To nurture the spiritual interest of children and youth, we should primarily focus on the Bible. But we can also take them to God¡¯s outdoor classroom, where we can cultivate their love for the Creator by showing the majesty of creation: ¡°For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead¡±(Rom.1:20).		[ 로마서 1:18 - 1:24 ] - 찬송가 13 장 창세로부터 그의 보이지 아니하는 것들 곧 그의 영원하신 능력과 신성이 그 만드신 만물에 분명히 보여 알게 되나니-로마서 1:20 스코틀랜드계 미국인인 존 뮤어(1838-1914)는 성경암송을 매우 강조한 크리스천 아버지 밑에서 자라났습니다. 청년이 되었을 무렵 존은 신약성경 전체와 구약성경의 많은 부분을 암송할 수 있었다고 합니다. 젊은 뮤어는 하나님의 창조물을 깊이 사랑하는 마음을 품게 되었고 그것을 하나님을 이해하는 원천으로 여겼습니다. 역사학자 데니스 윌리엄스에 의하면 뮤어는 창조물을 “자연책”이라고 불렀다고 합니다. 광야를 탐험하면서 그는 “하나님의 손으로 직접 빚어진 그대로, 문명에 오염되지 않고 길들여지지 않은” 환경 속에 서식하고 있는 동식물을 조사해 볼 수 있었습니다. 이어서 뮤어는 산림 보호 운동을 이끌었으며 요세미티, 세쿼이아, 마운트 레이니어 등 많은 미국의 국립공원을 만드는 데 기여하였습니다. 어린이와 청소년들의 영적인 관심을 불러일으키기 위해 우리는 우선 성경에 초점을 두어야 합니다. 그러면서 동시에 그들을 하나님이 창조하신 야외 교실로 데리고 갈 수도 있습니다. 거기에서 창조물의 장엄한 모습을 보여줌으로써 창조주에 대한 사랑이 자라나게 할 수 있습니다. “창세로부터 그의 보이지 아니하는 것들 곧 그의 영원하신 능력과 신성이 그 만드신 만물에 분명히 보여 알게 되나니”(롬 1:20).

O Lord, we can see all around us each day
The wisdom the creatures of nature display;
O help us to learn from Your marvelous world
The wonder and beauty Your hands have unfurled. — Bosch

In God¡¯s pattern book of nature
we can trace many valuable lessons.

Romans 1:18-24

[18] For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
[19] because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
[20] For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
[21] because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
[22] Professing to be wise, they became fools,
[23] and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
[24] Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,

오 주여, 자연의 창조물이 보여주는 지혜를
우리는 날마다 어느 곳에서나 볼 수 있습니다
주님의 손으로 펼쳐놓으신 경이로움과 아름다움을
주님의 놀라운 세계에서 배울 수 있게 도우소서

자연이라는 하나님의 디자인 책에서
우리는 가치 있는 교훈을 많이 발견할 수 있다.

로마서 1:18-24

[18] 하나님의 진노가 불의로 진리를 막는 사람들의 모든 경건하지 않음과 불의에 대하여 하늘로부터 나타나나니
[19] 이는 하나님을 알 만한 것이 그들 속에 보임이라 하나님께서 이를 그들에게 보이셨느니라
[20] 창세로부터 그의 보이지 아니하는 것들 곧 그의 영원하신 능력과 신성이 그가 만드신 만물에 분명히 보여 알려졌나니 그러므로 그들이 핑계하지 못할지니라
[21] 하나님을 알되 하나님을 영화롭게도 아니하며 감사하지도 아니하고 오히려 그 생각이 허망하여지며 미련한 마음이 어두워졌나니
[22] 스스로 지혜 있다 하나 어리석게 되어
[23] 썩어지지 아니하는 하나님의 영광을 썩어질 사람과 새와 짐승과 기어다니는 동물 모양의 우상으로 바꾸었느니라
[24] 그러므로 하나님께서 그들을 마음의 정욕대로 더러움에 내버려 두사 그들의 몸을 서로 욕되게 하셨으니
