Facing The Future		미래맞이
[ James 4:13 - 4:17 ] - hymn 453 If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that. — James 4:15 While going through some old files, I came across a 1992 special issue of TIME magazine titled ¡°Beyond the Year 2000: What To Expect in the New Millennium.¡± It was fascinating to read the predictions made 2 decades ago about what the future would hold. Some general observations were on target, but no one foresaw many of the events and innovations that have radically changed our lives. The most telling statement to me was, ¡°The first rule of forecasting should be that the unforeseen keeps making the future unforeseeable.¡± James reminds us that any view of the future that omits God is foolish and proud. ¡°Come now, you who say, ¡®Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit¡¯; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow.... Instead you ought to say, ¡®If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that¡¯¡±(James 4:13-15). Many people used to begin their statement of plans with, ¡°Lord willing.¡± The phrase may have become trite, but the acknowledgment of God¡¯s overruling hand is not. As we look ahead with God firmly in view, we can face the future with confidence in His loving plan.		[ 야고보서 4:13 - 4:17 ] - 찬송가 453 장 주의 뜻이면 우리가 살기도 하고 이것저것을 하리라-야고보서 4:15 오래된 자료들을 훑어보다가 “2000년 이후: 새 천년에 무엇을 기대할 수 있는가.”란 제목의 1992년도 타임지 특별판을 우연히 발견하였습니다. 어떠한 미래가 올 것인가에 대해 20년 전에 예견한 것을 읽는 일은 재미있는 일이었습니다. 몇몇 일반적인 관찰들은 들어맞았지만 그 누구도 우리 삶을 획기적으로 바꾸어 놓은 많은 사건이나 기술혁신을 예견하지 못했습니다. “생각하지 못한 일이 미래를 예측할 수 없게 만든다는 것이 예측의 첫 원칙이 되어야만 한다”라는 말에 나는 가장 공감했습니다. 야고보는 하나님을 빼놓은 미래에 관한 어떠한 관점도 어리석고 교만한 것이라는 것을 상기시켜 줍니다. “들으라 너희 중에 말하기를 오늘이나 내일이나 우리가 아무 도시에 가서 거기서 일 년을 유하며 장사하여 이를 보리라 하는 자들아 내일 일을 너희가 알지 못하는도다.......너희가 도리어 말하기를 주의 뜻이면 우리가 살기도 하고 이것저것을 하리라 할 것이거늘”(약 4:13-15). 많은 사람들이 그들의 계획을 이야기 할 때 “하나님이 허락하신다면”이라는 말로 시작하곤 합니다. 이 구절이 흔하게 쓰이다 보니 별 의미 없이 들리지만 하나님의 통치하시는 손길을 시인하는 것은 결코 사소한 일이 아닙니다. 우리가 하나님과 함께 미래를 분명히 그려볼 때, 우리는 하나님의 사랑의 계획을 신뢰하며 미래를 맞을 수 있습니다.

Those who know Christ as Savior can face the future with joy.

James 4:13-17

[13] Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit";
[14] whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
[15] Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that."
[16] But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.
[17] Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

하나님은 미래를 그 손에 두시고
하루하루 흡족한 은혜를 내리시네
그분의 방법대로 이루시도록 맡기면
좋을 때나 궂을 때나 우리를 잔잔히 인도하시네

그리스도를 구주로 아는 이들은 미래를 기쁨으로 맞이할 수 있다.

야고보서 4:13-17

[13] 들으라 너희 중에 말하기를 오늘이나 내일이나 우리가 어떤 도시에 가서 거기서 일 년을 머물며 장사하여 이익을 보리라 하는 자들아
[14] 내일 일을 너희가 알지 못하는도다 너희 생명이 무엇이냐 너희는 잠깐 보이다가 없어지는 안개니라
[15] 너희가 도리어 말하기를 주의 뜻이면 우리가 살기도 하고 이것이나 저것을 하리라 할 것이거늘
[16] 이제도 너희가 허탄한 자랑을 자랑하니 그러한 자랑은 다 악한 것이라
[17] 그러므로 사람이 선을 행할 줄 알고도 행하지 아니하면 죄니라
