[ Matthew 1:18 - 1:25 ] - hymn 377 Then Joseph ... did as the angel of the Lord commanded him. — Matthew 1:24 On some of the Christmas cards you will receive this year, no doubt there will be a man standing in the background looking over the shoulder of Mary, who is prominently displayed caring for the baby Jesus. His name is Joseph. And after the nativity narratives, he isn¡¯t heard from much again. If we didn¡¯t know better, we would think Joseph was an insignificant bystander or, at best, a mere necessity to undergird Jesus¡¯ claim to the throne of David. But, in fact, the role that Joseph played was strategically important. If he had disobeyed the angel¡¯s command to take Mary as his wife(Matt.1:20), he would have, from a human perspective, put the entire mission of Jesus at risk. Taking Mary as his wife was a risky assignment. Public perception that he was the baby¡¯s father put him in serious violation of Jewish law and made him a public disgrace. Yet today all of us are thankful that he was willing to risk his reputation to participate in and facilitate God¡¯s unfolding drama. Most of us are insignificant compared to the major players in this world. But all of us are called to obey. Who knows what God has in store when we are willing to surrender to God¡¯s will—even when it puts us at risk!		[ 마태복음 1:18 - 1:25 ] - 찬송가 377 장 요셉이...주의 사자의 분부대로 행하여－마태복음 1:24 올해 여러분이 받게 될 성탄절 카드 중 어떤 것에는 틀림없이 아기 예수를 보살피는 모습을 뚜렷이 보여주는 마리아의 뒤에 서서 어깨너머로 내려다보는 한 남자가 있을 것입니다. 그 남자의 이름은 요셉입니다. 그는 예수님의 출생에 대한 기록 이후에는 많이 언급되어 있지 않습니다. 만일 우리가 잘 알지 못하면, 요셉을 별로 중요하지 않은 보조역, 혹은 기껏해야 예수님이 다윗의 혈통이라는 사실을 단순히 뒷받침하는데 필요한 사람으로만 생각할 것입니다. 그러나 실제로 요셉이 했던 역할은 전략적으로 중요했습니다. 만일 그가 마리아를 그의 아내로 받아들이라는 천사의 명령(마 1:20)에 불순종하였다면, 인간의 관점에서 볼 때 그는 예수님의 전체적인 사명을 위험에 빠뜨리게 했을 것입니다. 마리아를 그의 아내로 받아들인다는 것은 위험한 일이었습니다. 사람들이 그가 아기의 아버지라고 생각하게 되면서 그는 유대 법을 심각하게 어긴 자가 되었고, 공개적으로 치욕을 당하게 되어버렸습니다. 그러나 오늘날 우리 모두는 그가 명예가 손상되는 것을 무릅쓰고 기꺼이 하나님이 아직 펼치지 아니하신 드라마를 돕고 거기에 참여한 것에 대해 감사하게 생각합니다. 우리 대부분은 이 세상에서 큰일을 하는 인물들과 비교해볼 때 중요하지 않은 사람들입니다. 그러나 우리는 모두 순종하라는 부름을 받고 있습니다. 우리가 위험을 무릅쓰고라도 하나님의 뜻에 기꺼이 순종할 때, 하나님이 무엇을 준비해 놓으셨는지 누가 알겠습니까!

It¡¯s no small thing to trust and obey.

Matthew 1:18-25

[18] Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
[19] Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.
[20] But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
[21] "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."
[22] So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
[23] "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
[24] Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,
[25] and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.

우리가 주님 말씀의 빛 가운데서 그분과 동행할 때
우리의 길에 그분의 영광이 나타나리라
주님의 선하신 뜻을 우리가 행할 때 그분은 우리와 함께
그리고 그를 신뢰하고 순종하는 모든 이와 함께 계시네

신뢰하고 순종하는 것은 결코 작은 일이 아니다.

마태복음 1:18-25

[18] 예수 그리스도의 나심은 이러하니라 그의 어머니 마리아가 요셉과 약혼하고 동거하기 전에 성령으로 잉태된 것이 나타났더니
[19] 그의 남편 요셉은 의로운 사람이라 그를 드러내지 아니하고 가만히 끊고자 하여
[20] 이 일을 생각할 때에 주의 사자가 현몽하여 이르되 다윗의 자손 요셉아 네 아내 마리아 데려오기를 무서워하지 말라 그에게 잉태된 자는 성령으로 된 것이라
[21] 아들을 낳으리니 이름을 예수라 하라 이는 그가 자기 백성을 그들의 죄에서 구원할 자이심이라 하니라
[22] 이 모든 일이 된 것은 주께서 선지자로 하신 말씀을 이루려 하심이니 이르시되
[23] 보라 처녀가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이요 그의 이름은 임마누엘이라 하리라 하셨으니 이를 번역한즉 하나님이 우리와 함께 계시다 함이라
[24] 요셉이 잠에서 깨어 일어나 주의 사자의 분부대로 행하여 그 아내를 데려왔으나
[25] 아들을 낳기까지 동침하지 아니하더니 낳으매 이름을 예수라 하니라
