[ Matthew 3:1 - 3:12 ] - hymn 493 Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand! ... Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance. - Matthew 3:2,8 Medical studies have shown that even though people who have had heart-bypass surgery are told that they must change their lifestyle or die, about 90 percent do not change. Typically, 2 years after surgery the patients haven¡¯t altered their lifestyle. It seems that most would rather die than change. Just as doctors preach a physical message of change to prevent death, John the Baptist came preaching a spiritual message of change. ¡°Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!¡± (Matt.3:2). He was preparing the way for the ultimate manifestation of God¡¯s reign—the Messiah, Jesus. Repentance means to change one¡¯s mind and attitude about God, which ultimately changes a person¡¯s actions and decisions. Those who repent and accept Christ¡¯s provision of forgiveness from their sins through His death on the cross will escape spiritual death(John 3:16). Repentance involves confessing sin with godly sorrow, and then forsaking sin. John the Baptist was calling people to turn from one way of living to ways that honor God. Today, the Lord is still calling us to repent and then to respond with the ¡°fruits worthy of repentance¡±(Matt.3:8).		[ 마태복음 3:1 - 3:12 ] - 찬송가 493 장 회개하라 천국이 가까왔느니라... 그러므로 회개에 합당한 열매를 맺고 - 마태복음 3:2,8 심장 혈관 우회 수술을 받은 환자들을 대상으로 한 연구에 의하면, 생활습관을 바꾸지 않으면 죽을 수도 있다는 경고에도 불구하고 환자들의 약 90퍼센트는 습관을 바꾸지 않는다고 합니다. 일반적으로 수술 후 2년이 되도록 생활습관을 바꾸지 않는다고 합니다. 바꾸느니 차라리 죽겠다는 환자들이 대부분인 것 같습니다. 의사들이 환자의 죽음을 예방하기 위해 신체 변화에 대한 메시지를 전하는 것처럼, 세례요한은 영적인 변화에 대한 메시지를 전하기 위해 왔습니다. “회개하라 천국이 가까왔느니라”(마 3:2). 그는 하나님의 통치가 궁극적으로 명시된 메시아 예수의 길을 예비하고 있었습니다. 회개는 하나님을 향한 마음과 태도가 변화되어 궁극적으로 그 사람의 행동과 의사결정이 바뀌는 것을 뜻합니다. 회개하고 주님의 십자가에서의 죽음을 통한 죄 사함의 은혜를 받아들이는 사람들은 영적인 죽음으로부터 벗어납니다(요 3:16). 회개는 슬퍼하며 신실하게 죄를 고백하고, 죄로부터 멀어지는 것을 포함합니다. 세례 요한은 사람들에게 현재 사는 방식을 버리고 하나님을 영화롭게 하는 삶의 방식으로 전환할 것을 요구했습니다. 지금도 주님은 여전히 우리가 회개하고 “회개에 합당한 열매”(마 3:8)를 맺으며 살아가기를 요구하고 계십니다.

Repentance means hating sin enough to turn from it.

Matthew 3:1-12

[1] In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
[2] and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!"
[3] For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying£º "The voice of one crying in the wilderness£º 'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.'"
[4] And John himself was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
[5] Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him
[6] and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
[7] But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
[8] "Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,
[9] "and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
[10] "And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
[11] "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
[12] "His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

회개한다는 것은 우리가 예전에 사랑했던
죄로부터 떠나는 것이라네
그리고 더 이상 죄를 짓지 않음으로
죄로 인해 슬퍼하는 것을 보여주는 것이라네

회개는 죄에서 돌아서 버릴 만큼 죄를 증오하는 것이다.

마태복음 3:1-12

[1] 그 때에 침례 요한이 이르러 유대 광야에서 전파하여 말하되
[2] 회개하라 천국이 가까이 왔느니라 하였으니
[3] 그는 선지자 이사야를 통하여 말씀하신 자라 일렀으되 광야에 외치는 자의 소리가 있어 이르되 너희는 주의 길을 준비하라 그가 오실 길을 곧게 하라 하였느니라
[4] 이 요한은 낙타털 옷을 입고 허리에 가죽 띠를 띠고 음식은 메뚜기와 석청이었더라
[5] 이 때에 예루살렘과 온 유대와 요단 강 사방에서 다 그에게 나아와
[6] 자기들의 죄를 자복하고 요단 강에서 그에게 침례를 받더니
[7] 요한이 많은 바리새인들과 사두개인들이 침례 베푸는 데로 오는 것을 보고 이르되 독사의 자식들아 누가 너희를 가르쳐 임박한 진노를 피하라 하더냐
[8] 그러므로 회개에 합당한 열매를 맺고
[9] 속으로 아브라함이 우리 조상이라고 생각하지 말라 내가 너희에게 이르노니 하나님이 능히 이 돌들로도 아브라함의 자손이 되게 하시리라
[10] 이미 도끼가 나무 뿌리에 놓였으니 좋은 열매를 맺지 아니하는 나무마다 찍혀 불에 던져지리라
[11] 나는 너희로 회개하게 하기 위하여 물로 침례를 베풀거니와 내 뒤에 오시는 이는 나보다 능력이 많으시니 나는 그의 신을 들기도 감당하지 못하겠노라 그는 성령과 불로 너희에게 침례를 베푸실 것이요
[12] 손에 키를 들고 자기의 타작 마당을 정하게 하사 알곡은 모아 곳간에 들이고 쭉정이는 꺼지지 않는 불에 태우시리라
