[ Matthew 6:1 - 6:6 ] - hymn 361 Your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. — Matthew 6:6 Recently I attended a memorial service for a gifted musician whose life had touched many people. The tribute to this Christian woman included video and audio clips, photos, instrumentalists, and speakers. After everyone had left the church, I stopped to thank the technicians whose flawless work at the control board had contributed so much to this moving tribute. ¡°No one noticed what you did,¡± I told them. ¡°That¡¯s the way we like it,¡± they replied. In Matthew 6, Jesus told His disciples to give (vv.1-4), pray (vv.5-6), and fast (vv.16-18) in order to please God, not to gain praise from people. ¡°When you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place¡± (v.6). Whether giving, praying, or fasting, Jesus said, ¡°Your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly¡± (vv.4,6,18). Something within us makes us want to be seen and recognized for our good deeds. While there¡¯s nothing wrong with encouragement and appreciation, a desire for praise can undermine our service because it shifts the focus from others to ourselves. When there is no public ¡°thank you,¡± we may feel slighted. But even when we serve God in secret, He sees it all.		[ 마태복음 6:1 - 6:6 ] - 찬송가 361 장 은밀한 중에 보시는 네 아버지께서 갚으시리라 －마태복음 6:6 얼마 전에 나는 많은 사람들에게 감동을 준 삶을 살았던 한 재능 있는 음악가의 장례식에 참석했습니다. 이 그리스도인 여성의 추모 행사는 영상과 음향 자료, 사진, 악기연주, 그리고 추모사로 이루어졌습니다. 사람들이 모두 교회를 떠난 후, 나는 남아서 장비들을 완벽하게 다루어 감동스러운 추모행사가 되게 해 준 기술자들에게 감사를 표했습니다. “여러분들이 한 일을 아무도 알아주지 못하는군요.” 그러자 그들은 “우리는 그게 좋습니다.”라고 대답했습니다. 마태복음 6장에서 예수님은 제자들에게 사람들에게 칭찬 받기 위해서가 아니라 하나님을 기쁘시게 하기 위해 구제하고(1-4절), 기도하고(5-6절), 금식하라(16-18절)고 말씀하셨습니다. “너는 기도할 때에 네 골방에 들어가 문을 닫고 은밀한 중에 보시는 네 아버지께 기도하라”(6절). 구제나 기도, 금식 어느 것이든, “은밀한 중에 보시는 네 아버지께서 갚으시리라”(4,6,18절)라고 예수님은 말씀하셨습니다. 우리 안에 있는 그 무언가가 우리로 하여금 누군가의 눈에 띄거나 우리의 선한 행위에 대해 인정받고 싶게 합니다. 격려와 감사에는 잘못된 것이 없지만, 칭찬받고 싶어 하는 욕구는 초점을 다른 사람으로부터 우리 자신에게로 옮기기 때문에 우리가 하는 봉사의 가치를 손상시킵니다. 주위에서 아무도 “감사합니다.”라는 말을 하지 않을 때 무시 당하고 있다는 느낌을 받을 수도 있습니다. 그러나 우리가 은밀하게 하나님을 섬기는 그 순간에도 그분은 모든 것을 지켜보고 계십니다.

The service that we do for God
May go unpraised by men;
But when we stand before the Lord,
He will reward us then. — Sper

It is better to earn recognition without getting it than to get recognition without earning it.

Matthew 6:1-6,16-18

[1] "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
[2] "Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
[3] "But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
[4] "that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
[5] "And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
[6] "But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

[16] "Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
[17] "But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
[18] "so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

하나님을 섬기는 우리의 봉사를
사람들이 모르고 칭찬하지 않을지도 모르나
주님 앞에 서게 되는 날
그 때에 주님께서 보상해 주시리

노력하고도 인정받지 못하는 것이
노력하지 않고 인정받는 것보다 낫다.

마태복음 6:1-6,16-18

[1] 사람에게 보이려고 그들 앞에서 너희 의를 행하지 않도록 주의하라 그리하지 아니하면 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 상을 받지 못하느니라
[2] 그러므로 구제할 때에 외식하는 자가 사람에게서 영광을 받으려고 회당과 거리에서 하는 것 같이 너희 앞에 나팔을 불지 말라 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 그들은 자기 상을 이미 받았느니라
[3] 너는 구제할 때에 오른손이 하는 것을 왼손이 모르게 하여
[4] 네 구제함을 은밀하게 하라 은밀한 중에 보시는 너의 아버지께서 갚으시리라
[5] 또 너희는 기도할 때에 외식하는 자와 같이 하지 말라 그들은 사람에게 보이려고 회당과 큰 거리 어귀에 서서 기도하기를 좋아하느니라 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 그들은 자기 상을 이미 받았느니라
[6] 너는 기도할 때에 네 골방에 들어가 문을 닫고 은밀한 중에 계신 네 아버지께 기도하라 은밀한 중에 보시는 네 아버지께서 갚으시리라

[16] 금식할 때에 너희는 외식하는 자들과 같이 슬픈 기색을 보이지 말라 그들은 금식하는 것을 사람에게 보이려고 얼굴을 흉하게 하느니라 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 그들은 자기 상을 이미 받았느니라
[17] 너는 금식할 때에 머리에 기름을 바르고 얼굴을 씻으라
[18] 이는 금식하는 자로 사람에게 보이지 않고 오직 은밀한 중에 계신 네 아버지께 보이게 하려 함이라 은밀한 중에 보시는 네 아버지께서 갚으시리라
