The Speck		티
[ Matthew 7:1 - 7:6 ] - hymn 321 Why do you look at the speck in your brother¡¯s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? - Luke 6:41 It was just a speck, a tiny foreign object flying through the air on a windy day while I was cutting the grass. Somehow that speck made its way into my left eye. For the next few hours that little speck caused quite a bit of irritation. I tried washing it out. My wife, Sue, a nurse, tried everything she could think of. Finally, we went to a Med Center, where the medical personnel on duty couldn¡¯t get it out either. Only after applying some ointment and waiting several more annoying hours did I get relief from the speck. This tiny, nagging irritant made me think anew about Jesus¡¯ teaching in Matthew 7 about criticizing others. My first thought was to be impressed with the practicality of Jesus¡¯ illustration. Using the effective literary tool of hyperbole, or exaggeration, He explained for His listeners how foolish it is for a person to criticize someone without seeing that he or she is also guilty of error. If you can find someone else¡¯s little speck while ignoring the hunk of wood in your own eye, something¡¯s wrong. It should be unthinkable to ignore our own faults while pointing out someone else¡¯s. An attitude of self-righteousness has no place in the Christian life. That should be plain to see.		[ 마태복음 7:1 - 7:6 ] - 찬송가 321 장 어찌하여 형제의 눈 속에 있는 티는 보고 네 눈 속에 있는 들보는 깨닫지 못하느냐－ 누가복음 6:41 어느 바람 부는 날 내가 잔디를 깎고 있을 때 그저 티 같은 아주 작은 이물질이 바람에 날려와 왼쪽 눈에 들어갔습니다. 그 후 몇 시간 동안 그 작은 티가 눈을 매우 따갑게 했습니다. 나는 그것을 씻어내려고 했습니다. 간호사인 아내 수는 자기가 해볼 수 있는 모든 것을 시도해 보았습니다. 마침내 우리는 병원으로 갔지만 당직 의사 역시 그것을 빼내지 못했습니다. 안연고를 바른 후 짜증스런 몇 시간을 더 기다린 후에야, 나는 그 티로부터 헤어날 수가 있었습니다. 이 아주 작고 아픔을 계속 주는 자극물이 나로 하여금 다른 사람들을 비판하는 것에 관한 마태복음 7장의 예수님의 가르침에 대해 다시 생각하게 했습니다. 나는 제일 먼저 예수님께서 사용한 예문이 실용적이었다는 것에 감명 받았습니다. 수사학적으로 과장법이라고 하는 뻥튀기식 표현을 효과적으로 사용하여, 예수님은 말씀을 듣는 이들에게 자신의 죄를 보지 못하고 다른 사람을 비판하는 사람이 얼마나 어리석은가를 설명하였습니다. 만일 당신이 자신의 눈에 있는 큰 나무 조각은 간과하면서 다른 사람의 작은 티를 찾아낸다면, 이는 무엇인가 잘못된 것입니다. 다른 사람들의 잘못을 지적하면서, 우리 자신의 잘못을 모르는 체 하는 것은 생각도 하지 말아야 합니다. 독선적인 태도는 그리스도인 삶에 합당하지 않음이 명백합니다.

A Prayer: Lord, help me not to get caught up in pointing out the ¡°little¡± sins in others¡¯ lives, while ignoring my own glaring sin. I¡¯m thankful that with repentance comes forgiveness. Amen.

Inspect your own life before you look for specks in others.

Matthew 7:1-6

[1] "Judge not, that you be not judged.
[2] "For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
[3] "And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?
[4] "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye?
[5] "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
[6] "Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

기도: 주님, 나 자신의 역력한 죄를 보지 못하면서
다른 이의 삶에서 “작은” 죄를 지적 하는 일에
말려들지 않도록 도와주소서
회개하면 용서가 뒤따라옴에 감사합니다. 아멘

다른 사람들의 티를 찾기 전에 당신의 생활을 점검하라.

마태복음 7:1-6

[1] 비판을 받지 아니하려거든 비판하지 말라
[2] 너희가 비판하는 그 비판으로 너희가 비판을 받을 것이요 너희가 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 너희가 헤아림을 받을 것이니라
[3] 어찌하여 형제의 눈 속에 있는 티는 보고 네 눈 속에 있는 들보는 깨닫지 못하느냐
[4] 보라 네 눈 속에 들보가 있는데 어찌하여 형제에게 말하기를 나로 네 눈 속에 있는 티를 빼게 하라 하겠느냐
[5] 외식하는 자여 먼저 네 눈 속에서 들보를 빼어라 그 후에야 밝히 보고 형제의 눈 속에서 티를 빼리라
[6] 거룩한 것을 개에게 주지 말며 너희 진주를 돼지 앞에 던지지 말라 그들이 그것을 발로 밟고 돌이켜 너희를 찢어 상하게 할까 염려하라
