[ 1 Thessalonians 4:13 - 4:18 ] - hymn 223 I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. — 1 Thessalonians 4:13 Our flight had been airborne about 15 minutes when the pilot announced that the aircraft had a serious problem the crew was trying to analyze. A few minutes later, he announced that it was a vibration and that we would have to return to the airport. Then the flight attendants made a series of step-by-step announcements explaining what was going on and what would happen once we were on the ground. In an event that could have been terrifying, the fears of the passengers were relieved because we were given the right information. In the first century, a group of believers in Thessalonica were afraid that their believing loved ones who had died were gone forever and would miss out on the second coming of Christ. For that reason, Paul wrote, ¡°I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope¡± (1 Thess. 4:13). Paul¡¯s words of comfort were intended to soften their fears by giving them the right information, which made all the difference in the world. While grieving their loss, they could still have hope of a coming reunion with those who were in Christ. In seasons of loss, we too can find comfort and hope because the Bible has given us the right information. — Bill Crowder		[ 데살로니가전서 4:13 - 4:18 ] - 찬송가 223 장 형제들아 자는 자들에 관하여는 너희가 알지 못함을 우리가 원치 아니하노니 이는 소망 없는 다른이와 같이 슬퍼하지 않게하려 함이라－데살로니가전서 4:13 우리들이 탄 비행기가 이륙한지 15분 정도 되었을 때, 기장이 기내 방송을 통해 비행기에 중대한 결함이 발생했으며, 승무원들이 그 원인을 찾고 있다고 알려 주었습니다. 잠시 후 기장은 원인이 기기 진동 때문이었으며, 비행기는 공항으로 되돌아가야 한다고 발표했습니다. 이어서 승무원들은 현재의 진행 상황과 착륙 후에 있을 일을 하나하나 설명해 주었습니다. 공포감을 줄 수 있는 상황에서도 승객들에게 올바른 정보가 주어졌기 때문에 두려움이 덜했습니다. 주후 1세기 데살로니가에 있던 한 무리의 신자들은 이미 세상을 떠난 사랑하는 믿음의 권속들이 영원히 사라져 예수님의 재림을 보지 못할 것이라는 걱정을 하였습니다. 그래서 바울은 다음과 같이 기록했습니다, “형제들아 자는 자들에 관하여는 너희가 알지 못함을 우리가 원치 아니하노니 이는 소망 없는 다른 이와 같이 슬퍼하지 않게 하려 함이라”(살전 4:13). 바울은 그들에게 바른 지식을 전함으로 걱정을 덜어주려는 뜻에서 위로의 말을 한 것인데, 실제로 이 말이 세상에 큰 변화를 주었습니다. 그들은 사별을 슬퍼하면서도, 예수님 안에 있는 죽은 자들을 다시 만나볼 수 있다는 희망을 계속 가질 수 있었던 것입니다. 우리 주위의 누군가가 죽었을 때 우리는 이와 같이 성경이 주는 올바른 정보로 인해 위로와 희망을 가질 수 있습니다.

Death is not a period—it¡¯s only a comma.

1 Thess. 4:13-18

[13] But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
[14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
[15] For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.
[16] For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
[17] Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
[18] Therefore comfort one another with these words.

그분의 재림 때엔 죽은 자가 일어나리
공중에 들려 올라가 그를 영접하리
내 영혼이 이 소망을 기대하니
그분이 재림하시는 바로 그 소망!

죽음은 마침표가 아니고 단지 쉼표일 뿐이다.

데살로니가전서 4:13-18

[13] 형제들아 자는 자들에 관하여는 너희가 알지 못함을 우리가 원하지 아니하노니 이는 소망 없는 다른 이와 같이 슬퍼하지 않게 하려 함이라
[14] 우리가 예수께서 죽으셨다가 다시 살아나심을 믿을진대 이와 같이 예수 안에서 자는 자들도 하나님이 그와 함께 데리고 오시리라
[15] 우리가 주의 말씀으로 너희에게 이것을 말하노니 주께서 강림하실 때까지 우리 살아 남아 있는 자도 자는 자보다 결코 앞서지 못하리라
[16] 주께서 호령과 천사장의 소리와 하나님의 나팔 소리로 친히 하늘로부터 강림하시리니 그리스도 안에서 죽은 자들이 먼저 일어나고
[17] 그 후에 우리 살아 남은 자들도 그들과 함께 구름 속으로 끌어 올려 공중에서 주를 영접하게 하시리니 그리하여 우리가 항상 주와 함께 있으리라
[18] 그러므로 이러한 말로 서로 위로하라
