[ 1 Samuel 20:12 - 20:17 ] - hymn 523 Jonathan ... loved [David] as he loved his own soul. - 1 Samuel 20:17 John Chrysostom (347–407) was one of the great preachers in the early church. He was given the name Chrysostom, which means ¡°golden-mouthed,¡± because of his eloquent sermons. Here is one of his insights on the value of friends: ¡°Such is friendship, that through it we love places and seasons; for as ... flowers drop their sweet leaves on the ground around them, so friends impart favor even to the places where they dwell. With friends even poverty is pleasant.... It would be better for us that the sun were exhausted than that we should be without friends.¡± The story of Jonathan and David illustrates the value of friendship. Though David was hunted by the demented King Saul, he drew encouragement from his friendship with Saul¡¯s son. ¡°Jonathan ... loved [David] as he loved his own soul¡±(1 Sam.20:17). Their relationship was characterized by trust, understanding, and encouragement. How difficult it would have been for David to endure this unjust persecution without the nourishment of friendship based in the Lord(v.42). The ancient voice of Chrysostom and the witness of David and Jonathan are reminders of the need to nurture the friendships God has given us. — Dennis Fisher		[ 사무엘상 20:12 - 20:17 ] - 찬송가 523 장 요나단이...자기 생명을 사랑함 같이 그를 사랑함이었더라－사무엘상 20:17 존 크리소스톰(347-407)은 초대교회의 위대한 설교자들 중의 한 사람이었습니다. 그는 감동적인 설교 때문에 “금으로 된 입”이란 뜻인 Chrysostom이라는 이름을 갖게 되었습니다. 여기에 친구의 가치에 대한 그의 통찰력의 한 예가 있습니다. “우정이라는 것은 그로 인해 우리가 여러 장소와 계절들을 사랑 할 수 있게 되는 것이며... 꽃들이 자기들의 달콤한 꽃잎들을 떨어뜨리는 것 같이 친구도 자기가 사는 곳에서 은혜를 전한다. 친구하고 같이 있으면 가난함까지도 기쁘며... 친구가 없는 것보다는 태양이 없는 것이 더 나을 것이다.” 요나단과 다윗의 이야기는 우정의 가치에 대해서 보여주고 있습니다. 비록 다윗은 미친 사울 왕에게 쫓기고 있었지만 사울의 아들과의 우정에서 용기를 얻었습니다. “요나단이...자기 생명을 사랑함 같이 그를 사랑함이었더라”(삼상 20:17). 그들의 친구 관계는 신뢰와 이해, 그리고 용기로 맺어진 것입니다. 다윗에게 하나님 안에서 이루어진 우정의 도움이 없었더라면 부당한 박해를 이겨내기가 매우 힘들었을 것입니다(42절). 고대 크리소스톰의 목소리와 다윗과 요나단의 증거들은 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 우정을 성장시켜야 된다는 것을 되새기게 해줍니다.

A friend is the first person who comes in when the whole world has gone out.

1 Samuel 20:12-17

[12] Then Jonathan said to David£º "The LORD God of Israel is witness! When I have sounded out my father sometime tomorrow, or the third day, and indeed there is good toward David, and I do not send to you and tell you,
[13] "may the LORD do so and much more to Jonathan. But if it pleases my father to do you evil, then I will report it to you and send you away, that you may go in safety. And the LORD be with you as He has been with my father.
[14] "And you shall not only show me the kindness of the LORD while I still live, that I may not die;
[15] "but you shall not cut off your kindness from my house forever, no, not when the LORD has cut off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth."
[16] So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, "Let the LORD require it at the hand of David's enemies."
[17] Now Jonathan again caused David to vow, because he loved him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

나에게는 줄 수 있는 금이 없기에
오직 사랑만이 보상할 수 있네
내가 사는 동안 매일 기도하는 것은
“하나님, 제가 친구들에게 덕이 되게 하소서”

친구는 온 세상이 나를 버렸을 때 제일 먼저 찾아오는 사람이다.

사무엘상 20:12-17

[12] 요나단이 다윗에게 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 증언하시거니와 내가 내일이나 모레 이맘때에 내 아버지를 살펴서 너 다윗에게 대한 의향이 선하면 내가 사람을 보내어 네게 알리지 않겠느냐
[13] 그러나 만일 내 아버지께서 너를 해치려 하는데도 내가 이 일을 네게 알려 주어 너를 보내어 평안히 가게 하지 아니하면 여호와께서 나 요나단에게 벌을 내리시고 또 내리시기를 원하노라 여호와께서 내 아버지와 함께 하신 것 같이 너와 함께 하시기를 원하노니
[14] 너는 내가 사는 날 동안에 여호와의 인자하심을 내게 베풀어서 나를 죽지 않게 할 뿐 아니라
[15] 여호와께서 너 다윗의 대적들을 지면에서 다 끊어 버리신 때에도 너는 네 인자함을 내 집에서 영원히 끊어 버리지 말라 하고
[16] 이에 요나단이 다윗의 집과 언약하기를 여호와께서는 다윗의 대적들을 치실지어다 하니라
[17] 다윗에 대한 요나단의 사랑이 그를 다시 맹세하게 하였으니 이는 자기 생명을 사랑함 같이 그를 사랑함이었더라
