Eternity In Our Hearts		영원을 사모하는 마음
[ Ecclesiastes 3:9 - 3:17 ] - hymn 75 He has put eternity in their hearts. - Ecclesiastes 3:11 I once came across a scene of beauty outside Anchorage, Alaska. Against a slate-gray sky, the water of an ocean inlet had a slight greenish cast, interrupted by small whitecaps. Soon I saw these were not whitecaps at all but whales—silvery white beluga whales in a pod feeding no more than 50 feet offshore. I stood with other onlookers, listening to the rhythmic motion of the sea, following the graceful, ghostly crescents of surfacing whales. The crowd was hushed, even reverent. For just a moment, nothing else mattered. The author of Ecclesiastes would have understood the crowd¡¯s response. He sees with dazzling clarity the beauty in the created world and that God ¡°has put eternity in their hearts¡±(3:11). Such an elegant phrase applies to much in human experience. Surely it hints at a religious instinct. Our hearts perceive eternity in ways other than the religious. Ecclesiastes presents both sides of life on this planet: the promise of pleasures so alluring that we may devote our lives to their pursuit, and the haunting realization that these pleasures ultimately do not satisfy. God¡¯s tantalizing world is too big for us. Unless we acknowledge our limits and subject ourselves to God¡¯s rule, unless we trust the Giver of all good gifts, we will end up in despair. — Philip Yancey		[ 전도서 3:9 - 3:17 ] - 찬송가 75 장 하나님이...사람에게 영원을 사모하는 마음을 주셨느니라 - 전도서 3:11 나는 언젠가 알라스카 주 앵커리지의 아름다운 바깥 풍경을 본 적이 있습니다. 푸른색을 띠는 회색 하늘과 맞대어서 해양만의 바닷물은 작은 흰 파도물결로 잠깐씩 변하면서 초록색을 띠고 있었습니다. 곧 나는 그것들이 흰 파도물결이 아니라 하얀 벨루가 고래들이 해변에서 불과 20미터 정도 떨어진 거리에서 먹이를 먹고 있는 것이라는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 나는 다른 구경꾼들과 함께 서서 수면 위의 유령 같은, 그렇지만 우아한 초승달 모양의 고래들을 보면서 바다의 리드미컬한 움직임을 들었습니다. 군중들은 숨을 죽였으며 경외감을 느꼈습니다. 잠시 동안이었지만 그 어떤 다른 것도 중요하지 않았습니다. 전도서 기자는 그 군중들의 반응을 이해하였을 것입니다. 그는 창조된 세상의 아름다움과 “하나님이 그들의 마음속에 영원을 사모하는 마음을 주셨음”(3:11)을 명확하게 보았을 것입니다. 이 고상한 구절은 인간의 많은 경험 속에서 적용됩니다. 물론 그것은 종교적인 본능을 암시하지만 우리의 마음은 종교가 아닌 방식으로도 영원을 인식합니다. 전도서는 이 지구에서의 삶이 지니는 양면성을 제시합니다. 너무나도 매혹적이어서 우리의 삶을 그것들을 쫓는 것에 몰두하게 만들 수 있는 쾌락에 대한 기대와 이러한 쾌락이 우리를 궁극적으로 만족시킬 수는 없다는 무서운 현실인식이 그것입니다. 하나님이 창조하신 이 세상은 우리가 이해하기에는 너무나 큽니다. 우리가 우리의 한계를 인정하지 않고, 하나님의 규칙에 순종하지 않으며, 모든 좋은 선물들을 주신 그 분을 신뢰하지 않으면, 우리는 절망에 빠질 수밖에 없습니다.

Ecclesiastes 3:9-17

[9] What profit has the worker from that in which he labors?
[10] I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied.
[11] He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
[12] I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives,
[13] and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor--it is the gift of God.
[14] I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, And nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him.
[15] That which is has already been, And what is to be has already been; And God requires an account of what is past.
[16] Moreover I saw under the sun£º In the place of judgment, Wickedness was there; And in the place of righteousness, Iniquity was there.
[17] I said in my heart, "God shall judge the righteous and the wicked, For there is a time there for every purpose and for every work."

전도서 3:9-17

[9] 일하는 자가 그의 수고로 말미암아 무슨 이익이 있으랴
[10] 하나님이 인생들에게 노고를 주사 애쓰게 하신 것을 내가 보았노라
[11] 하나님이 모든 것을 지으시되 때를 따라 아름답게 하셨고 또 사람들에게는 영원을 사모하는 마음을 주셨느니라 그러나 하나님이 하시는 일의 시종을 사람으로 측량할 수 없게 하셨도다
[12] 사람들이 사는 동안에 기뻐하며 선을 행하는 것보다 더 나은 것이 없는 줄을 내가 알았고
[13] 사람마다 먹고 마시는 것과 수고함으로 낙을 누리는 그것이 하나님의 선물인 줄도 또한 알았도다
[14] 하나님께서 행하시는 모든 것은 영원히 있을 것이라 그 위에 더 할 수도 없고 그것에서 덜 할 수도 없나니 하나님이 이같이 행하심은 사람들이 그의 앞에서 경외하게 하려 하심인 줄을 내가 알았도다
[15] 이제 있는 것이 옛적에 있었고 장래에 있을 것도 옛적에 있었나니 하나님은 이미 지난 것을 다시 찾으시느니라
[16] 또 내가 해 아래에서 보건대 재판하는 곳 거기에도 악이 있고 정의를 행하는 곳 거기에도 악이 있도다
[17] 내가 내 마음속으로 이르기를 의인과 악인을 하나님이 심판하시리니 이는 모든 소망하는 일과 모든 행사에 때가 있음이라 하였으며
