Making The Cut		예선통과
[ Matthew 4:18 - 4:22 ] - hymn 355 [Jesus] said to them, ¡°Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.¡± - Matthew 4:19 Every year, high-school seniors apply to their favorite universities and then watch the mailbox for the letter announcing their acceptance. It was different for teens in New Testament times. Jewish boys would often attend rabbinical schools until age 13. Then only the best and brightest would be chosen to ¡°follow¡± the local rabbi. This small, select group of disciples would go where he went and eat what he ate—modeling their lives after the rabbi. Those who didn¡¯t make the cut would pick up a trade like carpentry, sheep-herding, or fishing. Guys like Simon, Andrew, James, and John hadn¡¯t made the cut. So instead of following the local rabbi, they were down by the docks, knee-deep in the family business. It¡¯s interesting that Jesus sought out the men the local rabbi had rejected. Instead of targeting the best and brightest, Jesus offered His invitation, ¡°Follow Me,¡± to ordinary run-of-the-mill fishermen. What an honor! They would become followers of the ultimate Rabbi. Jesus extends the same honor to you and me—not because we are the best or brightest, but because He needs ordinary people like us to model His life and to lovingly rescue people on His behalf. So, follow Him and let Him make something of your life! — Joe Stowell		[ 마태복음 4:18 - 4:22 ] - 찬송가 355 장 [예수께서] 말씀하시되 나를 따라 오너라 내가 너희로 사람을 낚는 어부가 되게 하리라 하시니 - 마태복음 4:19 매년 고등학교 졸업반 학생들은 자신이 원하는 대학에 입학원서를 내고 입학 허가 편지를 기다리면서 매일 우편함을 열어봅니다. 신약시대의 십대들은 달랐습니다. 유대소년들은 열세 살이 되기까지 랍비가 가르치는 학교에 다니곤 하였습니다. 그리고는 그들 중에서 가장 우수하고 영리한 아이들만 선발되어 그 지역의 랍비를 “따라다닙니다.” 이 작은 소수의 선택된 제자들은 랍비가 걸었던 길을 걷고, 랍비의 음식을 따라 먹으면서 랍비의 삶을 본받습니다. 여기에 선택되지 못한 학생들은 목수나 양치기, 또는 어부와 같은 직업을 택하게 됩니다. 시몬, 안드레, 야고보, 그리고 요한 같은 사람은 여기에 선발되지 못했습니다. 그래서 그들은 지역 랍비를 따라다니는 대신에 부두에서 가업에 몰두하며 분주히 살았습니다. 예수님이 지역 랍비가 거절한 사람들을 찾으셨다는 사실은 흥미로운 일입니다. 가장 총명하고 똑똑한 사람들 대신 그저 평범한 어부들에게 “나를 따르라”라며 초청을 하셨던 것입니다. 얼마나 영광스러웠을까요? 그들은 지상 최고의 랍비를 따르게 되었던 것입니다. 예수님은 이와 똑같은 명예를 당신과 나에게 베풀어주십니다. 그것은 우리가 가장 똑똑하고 가장 총명해서가 아니라, 주님을 본받아서 그분 대신에 사랑으로 사람들을 구원하기 위해서는 우리와 같이 평범한 사람이 필요하기 때문입니다. 주님을 따르십시오. 그리고 주님께서 우리 삶에서 가치 있는 일을 이루실 수 있도록 하십시오!

Even the ordinary and the outcast can make the cut to follow Jesus.

Matthew 4:18-22

[18] And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
[19] Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."
[20] They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
[21] Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them,
[22] and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

마음 중심으로 주를 사랑하며
예수님을 따르는 우리는
비록 평범할지 모르나
구별된 사람들이라네

평범하고 낙오된 사람일지라도 예수님 제자로 선택될 수 있다.

마태복음 4:18-22

[18] 갈릴리 해변에 다니시다가 두 형제 곧 베드로라 하는 시몬과 그의 형제 안드레가 바다에 그물 던지는 것을 보시니 그들은 어부라
[19] 말씀하시되 나를 따라오라 내가 너희를 사람을 낚는 어부가 되게 하리라 하시니
[20] 그들이 곧 그물을 버려 두고 예수를 따르니라
[21] 거기서 더 가시다가 다른 두 형제 곧 세베대의 아들 야고보와 그의 형제 요한이 그의 아버지 세베대와 함께 배에서 그물 깁는 것을 보시고 부르시니
[22] 그들이 곧 배와 아버지를 버려 두고 예수를 따르니라
