Thunderstorm Thoughts		폭풍우 속 같은 마음
[ Matthew 8:23 - 8:27 ] - hymn 363 The God of peace will be with you. - Philippians 4:9 I laugh every time I hear the radio commercial that has a woman shouting to her friend in conversation. She¡¯s trying to talk above the sounds of the thunderstorm in her own head. Ever since a storm damaged part of her home, that¡¯s all she hears because her insurance company isn¡¯t taking care of her claims. I¡¯ve heard thunderstorms in my head, and maybe you have too. It happens when a tragedy occurs—to us, to someone close to us, or to someone we hear about in the news. Our minds become a tempest of ¡°what if¡± questions. We focus on all the possible bad outcomes. Our fear, worry, and trust in God fluctuate as we wait, we pray, we grieve, and we wonder what the Lord will do. It¡¯s natural for us to be fearful in a storm (literal or figurative). The disciples had Jesus right there in the boat with them, yet they were afraid (Matt.8:23-27). He used the calming of the storm as a lesson to show them who He was—a powerful God who also cares for them. We wish that Jesus would always calm the storms of our life as He calmed the storm for the disciples that day. But we can find moments of peace when we¡¯re anchored to the truth that He¡¯s in the boat with us and He cares. — Anne Cetas		[ 마태복음 8:23 - 8:27 ] - 찬송가 363 장 평강의 하나님이 너희와 함께 계시리라－빌립보서 4:9 라디오 광고에서 한 여자가 친구와 대화 하면서 크게 소리치는 걸 들을 때마다 웃음이 납니다. 그 여자는 자기 머릿속에서 나는 천둥소리보다 더 크게 얘기하기 위해 소리를 질러대는 것입니다. 폭풍우로 그녀 집의 일부가 파손되었으나 보험회사가 보상 처리해 주지 않고 있어 그 이후로 그녀에게 는 천둥소리만 들리고 있다고 합니다. 나는 내 머리에서 나는 천둥소리를 들은 적이 있는데, 아마 당신도 그런 경험이 있을 것입니다. 우리 자신에게, 우리와 가까운 누군가에게, 혹은 뉴스에서 듣게 되는 어떤 사람에게 비극이 닥칠 때 그런 일이 일어납니다. 우리의 마음은 “만약에...”라는 질문들로 소용돌이치고, 벌어질지도 모를 모든 나쁜 결과들에 우리의 생각이 쏠립니다. 우리가 기다리고, 기도하고, 슬퍼하며, 주님이 어떻게 하실지 생각하는 동안 우리 마음속에서는 두려움과 근심, 그리고 하나님을 향한 신뢰가 마구 요동칩니다. 우리가 (실제적이든 혹은 상징적인 것이든) 폭풍우속에서 두려워하는 것은 당연한 일입니다. 제자들은 예수님이 그들과 함께 배에 계셨음에도 불구하고 두려워하였습니다(마 8:23-27). 예수님은 스스로 전능하신 하나님이시자 동시에 제자들을 돌보아주신다는 것을 보여주시기 위해 폭풍을 잠잠케 하셨습니다. 그날 제자들을 위해 폭풍우를 잠잠케 하셨던 것처럼, 우리는 우리 삶에 다가오는 폭풍우를 예수님이 항상 잠잠케 해주시기를 바랍니다. 그러나 예수님이 배에 우리와 함께 계시며 우리를 돌보신다는 사실에 우리 마음을 단단히 묶어둔다면 우리는 평안한 순간들을 누리게 될 것입니다.

Fierce drives the storm, but wind and waves
Within His hand are held,
And trusting His omnipotence
My fears are sweetly quelled. — Brown

To realize the worth of the anchor, we need to feel the stress of the storm.

Matthew 8:23-27

[23] Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.
[24] And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.
[25] Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!"
[26] But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
[27] So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"

폭풍우가 맹렬히 몰아치지만
바람과 파도는 주님의 손 안에 붙들려있네
주님의 전능하심을 믿을 때
나의 두려움은 재빨리 사라져버리네

폭풍우의 두려움을 느끼게 될 때
비로소 닻의 소중함을 깨닫게 된다.

마태복음 8:23-27

[23] 배에 오르시매 제자들이 따랐더니
[24] 바다에 큰 놀이 일어나 배가 물결에 덮이게 되었으되 예수께서는 주무시는지라
[25] 그 제자들이 나아와 깨우며 이르되 주여 구원하소서 우리가 죽겠나이다
[26] 예수께서 이르시되 어찌하여 무서워하느냐 믿음이 작은 자들아 하시고 곧 일어나사 바람과 바다를 꾸짖으시니 아주 잔잔하게 되거늘
[27] 그 사람들이 놀랍게 여겨 이르되 이이가 어떠한 사람이기에 바람과 바다도 순종하는가 하더라
