Humility And Greatness		겸손함과 위대함
[ Matthew 20:20 - 20:28 ] - hymn 507 Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. - Matthew 20:26 As a 7-year-old, Richard Bernstein admired Jackie Robinson¡¯s athletic ability and courage as the first African-American man to play Major League baseball in the modern era. A few years later, while working at a small-town golf course, Bernstein was astonished to find himself carrying the bag of his hero, Jackie Robinson. When rain postponed the game, Robinson held an umbrella over the two of them and shared his chocolate bar with the young caddy. Writing in The International Herald Tribune, Bernstein cited that humble act of kindness as a mark of greatness he has never forgotten. True greatness is shown by humility, not pride. This was powerfully demonstrated and taught by Jesus Christ, who told His ambitious disciples: ¡°Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many¡±(Matt.20:26-28). When God Himself walked on earth as a man, He washed feet, welcomed children, and willingly gave His life to deliver us from the self-centered tyranny of sin. His example gives credence to His command. — David C. McCasland		[ 마태복음 20:20 - 20:28 ] - 찬송가 507 장 너희 중에 누구든지 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고 - 마태복음 20:26 리차드 번스타인은 그가 일곱 살 때 흑인으로서는 처음으로 메이저리그의 야구선수가 된 재키 로빈슨의 운동능력과 용기에 감탄하였습니다. 몇 해가 지난 후, 번스타인이 작은 마을의 골프장에서 일할 때에 자기의 영웅인 재키 로빈슨의 골프 가방을 들게 된 것을 알고 나서는 깜짝 놀랐습니다. 비가 와서 경기가 미뤄지자 로빈슨은 우산을 받쳐 들고 젊은 캐디와 자신의 초콜릿 바를 나누어 먹었습니다. 번스타인은 「인터내셔널 헤럴드 트리뷴」 신문에서 그 친절하고 겸손한 행동은 결코 잊지 못할 위대함의 표상이었다고 썼습니다. 진정한 위대함은 자만이 아닌 겸손함에 서 나타납니다. 이것은 예수님이 야망에 찬 제자들에게 다음과 같이 말씀하시며 가르치실 때에 강력하게 증명되었습니다. “누구든지 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고 너희 중에 으뜸이 되고자 하는 자는 너희 종이 되어야 하리라 인자가 온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려하고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려함이니라”(마20:26-28). 하나님 자신이 이 세상에 인간으로 오셨을 때, 그는 발을 씻어 주시고, 어린아이들을 환영하시며, 자기중심적인 포악한 죄에서 우리를 구원하시려고 자신의 목숨을 아낌없이 내어주셨습니다. 주님이 행하신 본보기가 주님의 명령을 믿고 따르게 해줍니다.

True greatness does not lie with those
Who strive for worldly fame,
It lies instead with those who choose
To serve in Jesus¡¯ name. — D. De Haan

We can do great things for the Lord if we are willing to do little things for others.

Matthew 20:20-28

[20] Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him.
[21] And He said to her, "What do you wish?" She said to Him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom."
[22] But Jesus answered and said, "You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" They said to Him, "We are able."
[23] So He said to them, "You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father."
[24] And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers.
[25] But Jesus called them to Himself and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them.
[26] "Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.
[27] "And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave--
[28] "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

진정한 위대함은 세속적인 명성을
추구하는 사람들에게 있지 않고
오히려 예수님의 이름으로
섬기는 길을 선택한 사람들에게 있다

만일 다른 사람들을 위해 작은 일들을 기꺼이 하고자 한다면
우리는 주님을 위하여 위대한 일들을 할 수 있다.

마태복음 20:20-28

[20] 그 때에 세베대의 아들의 어머니가 그 아들들을 데리고 예수께 와서 절하며 무엇을 구하니
[21] 예수께서 이르시되 무엇을 원하느냐 이르되 나의 이 두 아들을 주의 나라에서 하나는 주의 우편에, 하나는 주의 좌편에 앉게 명하소서
[22] 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 너희는 너희가 구하는 것을 알지 못하는도다 내가 마시려는 잔을 너희가 마실 수 있느냐 그들이 말하되 할 수 있나이다
[23] 이르시되 너희가 과연 내 잔을 마시려니와 내 좌우편에 앉는 것은 내가 주는 것이 아니라 내 아버지께서 누구를 위하여 예비하셨든지 그들이 얻을 것이니라
[24] 열 제자가 듣고 그 두 형제에 대하여 분히 여기거늘
[25] 예수께서 제자들을 불러다가 이르시되 이방인의 집권자들이 그들을 임의로 주관하고 그 고관들이 그들에게 권세를 부리는 줄을 너희가 알거니와
[26] 너희 중에는 그렇지 않아야 하나니 너희 중에 누구든지 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고
[27] 너희 중에 누구든지 으뜸이 되고자 하는 자는 너희의 종이 되어야 하리라
[28] 인자가 온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 하고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려 함이니라
