[ Deuteronomy 31:9 - 31:13 ] - hymn 115 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. - John 1:14 When Christmas displays go up before Halloween displays come down, I long for the days when people didn't think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving. However, there may be a legitimate reason to celebrate Christmas in October. No one knows the exact day when Jesus was born, but December 25 is unlikely. His birth may have been in autumn, when the weather was still warm enough for shepherds to be outdoors with their flocks. We know that Jesus was crucified on Passover, and that the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost. So some scholars have reasoned that Jesus' birth may have occurred on another Jewish holiday, the Feast of Tabernacles, or Sukkot. Although we cannot know for sure, we do know that it would be in keeping with God's way of working to send His Son-the Word made flesh who "dwelt"("tabernacled") among us(John1:14)-on the Feast of Tabernacles. Sukkot was a time when observant Jews lived in temporary dwellings and listened to the Word of the Lord being read(Deut.31:10-13). For Jews, Sukkot is "the time of our rejoicing." For all of us, our time of rejoicing is the birth of Christ, who brings the joy of salvation to all the world. - Julie Ackerman Link		[ 신명기 31:9 - 31:13 ] - 찬송가 115 장 말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하시매 우리가 그 영광을 보니 아버지의 독생자의 영광이요 은혜와 진리가 충만하더라 - 요한복음 1:14 할로윈의 장식물이 내려가기도 전에 크리스마스의 장식물이 올라가는 것을 볼 때, 나는 사람들이 추수감사절이 지날 때까지는 크리스마스를 생각지도 않았던 시절이 그리워집니다. 그렇지만 10월에 크리스마스를 기념하는 데에도 정당한 이유는 있는 것 같습니다. 예수님이 태어나신 날을 정확히 아는 사람은 아무도 없지만, 12월 25일은 아닌 것 같습니다. 주님은 목자들이 들판에서 양떼를 먹일 수 있을 정도로 포근한 날씨인 가을에 탄생하셨을 수도 있습니다. 우리는 예수님이 유월절에 십자가에 달리셨고, 성령님이 오순절에 강림하신 것을 압니다. 그래서 어떤 학자들은 예수님의 탄생일이 유대인들의 다른 절기인 초막절(숙곳)일 수도 있다고 주장합니다. 우리가 확실히 알 수는 없지만, 주님의 탄생일은 말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데(장막) "거하셨다"(요1:14)라고 하신 것처럼 그 아들을 초막절에 보내시고자 하시는 하나님의 뜻과 일치하리라는 것을 압니다. 숙곳은 정통 유대인들이 임시거처에 머물면서 하나님의 말씀이 낭독되는 것을 경청하던 기간이었습니다(신31:10-13). 유대인들에게 있어서 숙곳은 "기쁨의 시간"입니다. 우리 모두에게 있어 기쁨의 시간은 온 세상에 구원의 기쁨을 가져오신 예수 그리스도의 탄생입니다.

The date of Christ's birth may be debatable, but the fact of His life is indisputable.

Deuteronomy 31:9-13

[9] And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel.
[10] And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,
[11] When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.
[12] Gather the people together, men and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:
[13] And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

소식이 왔네, 기쁜 소식이!
사랑이신 하나님, 인간에게 구원을 보내셨네
그분의 사랑하는 아들, 독생자를 보내셨으니
자비의 역사가 시작되었네

예수님의 탄생일은 논란이 될지 몰라도,
주님의 삶이 사실이라는 데에는 논란의 여지가 없다.

신명기 31:9-13

[9] 모세가 이 율법을 써서 여호와의 언약궤를 메는 레위 자손 제사장들과 이스라엘 모든 장로에게 주고
[10] 그들에게 명하여 이르기를 매 칠년 끝 해 곧 정기 면제년의 초막절에
[11] 온 이스라엘이 네 하나님 여호와 앞 그 택하신 곳에 모일 때에 이 율법을 낭독하여 온 이스라엘로 듣게 할지니
[12] 곧 백성의 남녀와 유치와 네 성안에 우거하는 타국인을 모으고 그들로 듣고 배우고 네 하나님 여호와를 경외하며 이 율법의 모 든 말씀을 지켜 행하게 하고
[13] 또 너희가 요단을 건너가서 얻을 땅에 거할 동안에 이 말씀을 알지 못하는 그들의 자녀로 듣고 네 하나님 여호와 경외하기를 배 우게 할지니라
