The Ushpizzin		어쉬피진
[ James 1:19 - 1:27 ] - hymn 505 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. - James 1:27 In Jewish legend, the ushpizzin are guests who visit the pious at Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles. They are supposedly the great Old Testament heroes who come offering comfort and encouragement to the faithful. According to Jewish lore, these unseen guests only visit the sukkah(shelter) where the poor are welcome-a reminder of each person's responsibility to care for others. It also reminds them that unseen watchers may be observing their conduct. The story of the ushpizzin isn't true, of course. But beyond the lore and legend we are reminded that we as Christ-followers are living observed lives. Others are watching us. And our concern for others, particularly the least among us, is an expression of the compassion Christ displayed to the hurting and outcast of His generation. James, the half-brother of Jesus, challenged believers to put the love of Christ into practice. He wrote, "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world"(James 1:27). The example of Christ and the words of Scripture inspire us to care for our hurting world. Who's watching us? Our world is watching. And so is our Lord! - Bill Crowder		[ 야고보서 1:19 - 1:27 ] - 찬송가 505 장 하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난 중에 돌아보고 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 이것이니라 - 야고보서 1:27 유대인들의 전설에 의하면 '어쉬피진'은 '숙곳'(초막절)에 경건한 사람들을 방문하는 손님들입니다. 말하자면 그들은 믿는 사람들을 격려하고 위로하기 위해 찾아오는 위대한 구약의 영웅들로 생각되는 사람들입니다. 유대인의 전설에 의하면 이러한 눈에 보이지 않는 손님들은 가난한 자들을 받아주는 '수카'(쉼터)만을 방문합니다. 이는 다른 사람들을 돌보는 것이 우리들 모두의 책임이라는 것을 암시해줍니다. 그것은 또한 그들이 보지 못하는 누군가가 그들의 행위를 주시해서 보고 있다는 것을 상기시켜줍니다. When people observe your life, do they see the love of Christ?

James 1:19-27

[19] Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
[20] For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
[21] Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
[22] But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
[23] For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
[24] For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
[25] But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
[26] If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
[27] Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

[20] 사람의 성내는 것이 하나님의 의를 이루지 못함이니라
[21] 그러므로 모든 더러운 것과 넘치는 악을 내어 버리고 능히 너희 영혼을 구원할바 마음에 심긴 도를 온유함으로 받으라
[22] 너희는 도를 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라
[23] 누구든지 도를 행하지 아니하면 그는 거울로 자기의 얼굴을 보는 사람과 같으니
[24] 제 자신을 보고 가서 그 모양이 어떠한것을 곧 잊어 버리거니와
[25] 자유하게 하는 온전한 율법을 들여다 보고 있는 자는 듣고 잊어 버리는 자가 아니요 실행하는 자니 이 사람이 그 행하는 일에 복을 받으리라
[26] 누구든지 스스로 경건하다 생각하며 자기 혀를 재갈 먹이지 아니하고 자기 마음을 속이면 이 사람의 경건은 헛것이라
[27] 하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난 중에 돌아보고 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 이것이니라
