[ Psalms 119:17 - 119:24 ] - hymn 238 Your Word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart. - Jeremiah 15:16 For centuries, many Christians were not permitted to read God's Word in their own language. Instead, they were encouraged to attend Latin services that few could understand. Then, in 1516, the Dutch scholar Erasmus compiled and published the first New Testament in the original Greek language. This landmark work was the basis for the later publication of Luther's German Bible, Tyndale's English Bible, and the King James Version. These translations made the Scriptures understandable to millions of people around the world. Erasmus could not have known the influence his Greek New Testament would have, but he did have a passion for getting its message to laypeople from all walks of life. In the preface he wrote: "I would have [the Gospels and the Epistles] translated into all languages .... I long for the plowboy to sing them to himself as he follows the plow [and] the weaver to hum them to the tune of his shuttle." The prophet Jeremiah reflected this same passion for the Word: "Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your Word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart"(15:16). The treasures of truth in God's Word are best mined with the spade of meditation.

Psalm 119:17-24

[17] Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.
[18] Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
[19] I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.
[20] My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times.
[21] Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments.
[22] Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies.
[23] Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.
[24] Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.leth.

내게 정금보다 더 귀한 하나님의 말씀
깊은 바다에서 나온 진주보다 더 좋다네
주님의 말씀 안에 넘치는 즐거움이 있어
매일 매일 밤낮으로 나의 기쁨이 되네

하나님의 말씀 안에 있는 진리의 보배는
묵상이라는 삽을 쓰면 가장 채굴이 잘 된다.

시편 119:17-24

[17] 주의 종을 후대하여 살게 하소서 그리하시면 주의 말씀을 지키리이다
[18] 내 눈을 열어서 주의 법의 기이한 것을 보게 하소서
[19] 나는 땅에서 객이 되었사오니 주의 계명을 내게 숨기지 마소서
[20] 주의 규례를 항상 사모함으로 내 마음이 상하나이다
[21] 교만하여 저주를 받으며 주의 계명에서 떠나는 자를 주께서 꾸짖으셨나이다
[22] 내가 주의 증거를 지켰사오니 훼방과 멸시를 내게서 떠나게 하소서
[23] 방백들도 앉아 나를 훼방하였사오나 주의 종은 주의 율례를 묵상하였나이다
[24] 주의 증거는 나의 즐거움이요 나의 모사니이다
