[ Jeremiah 36:1 - 36:8 ] - hymn 236 Write ... all the words that I have spoken to you ... that everyone may turn from his evil way, that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. - Jeremiah 36:2-3 The American Library Association has designated this week as Banned Books Week in celebration of the freedom to read and to express one's opinion "even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular." The Bible is the all-time bestselling book, but in some parts of the world it is banned because it's considered dangerous. The Bible is dangerous, however, only to those who fear finding out that they are wrong. It's dangerous to those who exploit the weak and the innocent, who use force to keep others enslaved in poverty and ignorance, who don't want to give up their favorite sin, who believe that salvation can be found apart from Christ. No one wants to be told they are wrong. No one wants to hear that their behavior is putting themselves and those they love in danger or that God's patience will eventually wear out. Yet that was the message God told Jeremiah to write(Jer.36:2). When His message was read to King Jehoiakim, the king cut up the scroll and threw it into the fire(v.23). The only way to know we are right is to be willing to discover where we are wrong. Jeremiah 36:1-8,21-26

[1] And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
[2] Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
[3] It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
[4] Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.
[5] And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:
[6] Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD's house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
[7] It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.
[8] And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD's house.

[21] So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
[22] Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.
[23] And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
[24] Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
[25] Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.
[26] But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.

[1] 유다 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야김 사 년에 여호와께로서 예레미야에게 말씀이 임하니라 가라사대
[2] 너는 두루마리 책을 취하여 내가 네게 말하던 날 곧 요시야의 날부터 오늘까지 이스라엘과 유다와 열방에 대하여 나의 네게 이른모든 말을 그것에 기록하라
[3] 유다 족속이 내가 그들에게 내리려한 모든 재앙을 듣고 각기 악한 길에서 돌이킬듯 하니라 그리하면 내가 그 악과 죄를 사하리라
[4] 이에 예레미야가 네리야의 아들 바룩을 부르매 바룩이 예레미야의 구전대로 여호와께서 그에게 이르신 모든 말씀을 두루마리 책에 기록하니라
[5] 예레미야가 바룩을 명하여 가로되 나는 감금을 당한지라 여호와의 집에 들어갈 수 없은즉
[6] 너는 들어가서 나의 구전대로 두루마리에 기록한 여호와의 말씀을 금식일에 여호와의 집에 있는 백성의 귀에 낭독하고 유다 모 든 성에서 온 자들의 귀에도 낭독하라
[7] 그들이 여호와앞에 기도를 드리며 각기 악한 길을 떠날듯 하니라 여호와께서 이 백성에 대하여 선포하신 노와 분이 크니라
[8] 네리야의 아들 바룩이 무릇 선지자 예레미야의 자기에게 명한대로하여 여호와의 집에서 책에 있는 여호와의 말씀을 낭독하니라

[21] 왕이 여후디를 보내어 두루마리를 가져오게 하매 여후디가 서기관 엘리사마의 방에서 가져다가 왕과 왕의 곁에 선 모든 방백의 귀에 낭독하니
[22] 때는 구 월이라 왕이 겨울궁전에 앉았고 그 앞에는 불피운 화로가 있더라
[23] 여후디가 삼 편 사 편을 낭독하면 왕이 소도로 그것을 연하여 베어 화로 불에 던져서 온 두루마리를 태웠더라
[24] 왕과 그 신하들이 이 모든 말을 듣고도 두려워하거나 그 옷을 찢지 아니하였고
[25] 엘라단과 들라야와 그마랴가 왕께 두루마리를 사르지 말기를 간구하여도 왕이 듣지 아니하였으며
[26] 왕이 왕의 아들 여라므엘과 아스리엘의 아들 스라야와 압디엘의 아들 셀레먀를 명하여 서기관 바룩과 선지자 예레미야를 잡으라 하였으나 여호와께서 그들을 숨기셨더라
