Roots Or Shoots?		뿌리인가 새싹인가?
[ Matthew 13:1 - 13:9 ] - hymn 399 Because they had no root they withered away. - Matthew 13:6 In the life of trees, one key to survival is having more roots than shoots. In his book Oak: The Frame of Civilization,, author William Bryant Logan says, "If a tree puts on a lot of top growth and few roots, it is liable to be weak-wooded and short-lived.... If a tree puts down a great deal of roots and adds shoots more slowly, however, it is liable to be long-lived and more resistant to stress and strain." People and organizations can be like trees. The rise to prominence is exhilarating, but anything that puts up shoots faster than it puts down roots is fragile and in danger of breaking, falling, or dying. Jesus used a similar analogy in His parable of the sower. People who hear the Word and receive it joyfully are like seed sown on stony places; they spring up quickly but endure only a short time because they have no roots(Matt.13:6,20-21). Roots aren't at all glamorous, but they are the source of our strength. If our roots go deep in the knowledge of God(Jer.9:24) and our lives are "hidden with Christ in God"(Col.3:3), we'll be strong, resistant to blight, and more likely to survive the storms of adversity. How deep are your roots? - Julie Ackerman Link		[ 마태복음 13:1 - 13:9 ] - 찬송가 399 장 ......뿌리가 없으므로 말랐고 - 마태복음 13:6 나무의 일생에 있어서 살아남는 비결의 하나는 가지보다 뿌리를 많이 내리는 것입니다. 작가 윌리엄 브라이언트 로건은 그의 저서 「참나무: 문명의 골조」에서 "만일 나무가 가지만 무성하고 뿌리가 적으면 약한 나무가 되고 단명하기 쉽다. 그러나 뿌리를 많이 내리고 더 천천히 새싹을 내면 나무는 장수하게 되고 시련이나 역경을 잘 견디어낸다."라고 했습니다. 사람이나 조직도 나무와 같다고 할 수 있습니다. 유명세를 타면 기분이 좋지만, 그 어떤 것이든 뿌리를 내리는 것보다 더 빨리 새싹을 내면, 연약하여 부러지거나 시들거나 죽게 될 위험에 빠집니다. 예수님은 씨 뿌리는 자의 비유에서 비슷한 예를 들었습니다. 말씀을 듣고 즉시 기쁘게 받아들이는 사람은 돌밭에 뿌린 씨처럼 곧 싹을 내지만 뿌리가 없기 때문에 잠깐 동안만 견딜 수 있습니다(마13:6,20-21). 뿌리는 전혀 멋있어 보이지 않지만 우리의 힘의 근원입니다. 우리가 하나님을 아는 지식에 깊이 뿌리를 내리고(렘9:24) 우리 삶이 예수님 안에 숨기운 바 되면(골3:3), 우리는 강인해져서 말라죽지 않고 역경의 폭풍 속에서도 살아남게 될 것입니다. 당신의 뿌리는 얼마나 깊습니까?

Lord, keep me from being envious of the beautiful and the seemingly powerful. May I use Your resources to put down roots that will make me strong rather than growing branches to make me attractive. Amen.

The roots of stability come from being grounded in God's Word and prayer.

Matthew 13:1-9

[1] That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake.
[2] Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore.
[3] Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed.
[4] As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.
[5] Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.
[6] But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
[7] Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.
[8] Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop--a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.
[9] He who has ears, let him hear."

주님, 아름답고 힘 있어 보이는 것을 시샘하지 않도록 하시고
나를 매력적으로 보이게 하는 가지보다
나를 강하게 만드는 뿌리를 내리는 일에
주님의 자원을 사용하도록 하소서. 아멘

하나님의 말씀과 기도에 기초를 둘 때
안정된 뿌리를 내릴 수 있다.

마태복음 13:1-9

[1] 그 날 예수께서 집에서 나가사 바닷가에 앉으시매
[2] 큰 무리가 그에게로 모여 들거늘 예수께서 배에 올라가 앉으시고 온 무리는 해변에 서 있더니
[3] 예수께서 비유로 여러가지를 그들에게 말씀하여 이르시되 씨를 뿌리는 자가 뿌리러 나가서
[4] 뿌릴새 더러는 길 가에 떨어지매 새들이 와서 먹어버렸고
[5] 더러는 흙이 얕은 돌밭에 떨어지매 흙이 깊지 아니하므로 곧 싹이 나오나
[6] 해가 돋은 후에 타서 뿌리가 없으므로 말랐고
[7] 더러는 가시떨기 위에 떨어지매 가시가 자라서 기운을 막았고
[8] 더러는 좋은 땅에 떨어지매 어떤 것은 백 배, 어떤 것은 육십 배, 어떤 것은 삼십 배의 결실을 하였느니라
[9] 귀 있는 자는 들으라 하시니라
