When In Doubt		의심이 들 때
[ Matthew 11:1 - 11:6 ] - hymn 340 Are you the Coming One, or do we look for another? - Matthew 11:3 John the Baptist was languishing in prison and questioning his faith. He may well have wondered: Is Jesus the Messiah? Is His word true? Have I believed and labored in vain for my Master? Is this dark place my final reward for answering God's call? Perhaps countless questions make their way through your mind as well: Is Jesus really the Savior? Have my sins been forgiven? Can I trust the Bible? Will I be raised from the dead? Does heaven lie ahead? Is all that I believe a cruel illusion? Most of us ask questions like these from time to time. I do-especially on those dark days when circumstances bring sorrow and bitter disappointment, when it seems there's no storybook ending to our lives. These questionings are not failures of faith but tests of faith and can be answered in John the Baptist's way: We must take our doubts to Jesus. In His time and in His own wise way He will restore the confidence our hearts desire. Jesus didn't abandon John to his doubt. He sent word of the miracles He performed and the hope He preached(Matt.11:4-6). As George MacDonald said of God's faithfulness: "You might as well say that a mother would go away from her little child lying moaning in the dark." - David H. '예수가 메시아인가? 그의 말이 진실인가? 주님에 대한 나의 믿음과 노력이 헛된 것은 아니었던가? 이 어두운 곳이 하나님의 부르심에 응답한 나의 마지막 상급이란 말인가? 아마 당신의 마음 속에도 수많은 질문들이 떠오를 것입니다. '예수는 정말 구주이실까? 나의 죄들은 용서 받았을까? 성경은 믿을 수 있는 것일까? 나는 죽음에서 부활할 것인가? 천국이 앞에 놓여있는가? 내가 믿고 있는 모든 것이 무참하게도 환상에 불과한 것은 아닌가? 우리 가운데 대다수의 사람들이 때때로 이 같은 질문들을 합니다. 나도 그렇습니다. 주변 상황이 슬픔과 쓰라린 실망을 가져다주고, 우리 삶에 동화 같은 결말이 없어 보이는 어두운 시기에는 특히 그렇습니다. 이러한 질문들은 믿음이 없어져서 생기는 것이 아니라 믿음의 시험이며, 세례요한의 방식으로 그 답을 얻을 수 있습니다. 즉 우리는 우리의 의심을 예수님께 가지고 가야 합니다. 주님은 주님의 때에 주님만의 지혜로운 방법으로 우리 마음이 갈망하는 확신을 회복시켜주실 것입니다. 예수님은 의심 중에 있는 요한을 내버려두지 않으셨습니다. 주님은 주님이 행하셨던 이적의 소식과 그가 가르쳤던 소망의 말씀을 그에게 전해주셨습니다(마11:4-6). 조지 맥도널드는 하나님의 신실하심에 대해 이렇게 말했습니다. "그것은 어머니가 어둠 속에서 칭얼대는 어린아이를 잠시 떠나 있는 것과도 같은 것입니다."

For, spite of night, I find that God on high

Never doubt in the dark what God has shown you in the light.

Matthew 11:1-6

[1] After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.
[2] When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples
[3] to ask him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?"
[4] Jesus replied, "Go back and report to John what you hear and see:
[5] The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.
[6] Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me."

괴로운 내 영혼 어디 있든지
밤에라도 높으신 하나님 가까이 계심을 알기에
어둠 속에도 내 마음 기이하게 축복받고
우울할 때 내 영혼 안식을 얻네

하나님께서 빛 가운데 보여주신 것을
어둠 속에서 절대 의심하지 말라.

마태복음 11:1-6

[1] 예수께서 열두 제자에게 명하기를 마치시고 이에 그들의 여러 동네에서 가르치시며 전도하시려고 거기를 떠나 가시니라
[2] 요한이 옥에서 그리스도께서 하신 일을 듣고 제자들을 보내어
[3] 예수께 여짜오되 오실 그이가 당신이오니이까 우리가 다른 이를 기다리오리이까
[4] 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 너희가 가서 듣고 보는 것을 요한에게 알리되
[5] 맹인이 보며 못 걷는 사람이 걸으며 나병환자가 깨끗함을 받으며 못 듣는 자가 들으며 죽은 자가 살아나며 가난한 자에게 복음이 전파된다 하라
[6] 누구든지 나로 말미암아 실족하지 아니하는 자는 복이 있도다 하시니라
