Saying Goodbye		고별 인사
[ Matthew 11:7 - 11:19 ] - hymn 518 There has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. - Matthew 11:11 If you've ever been asked to say a few words at a memorial service, you know how difficult, yet important, it can be. Cyrus M. Copeland, compiler of two books of tributes to famous people, said: "A great eulogy is both art and architecture-a bridge between the living and the dead, memory and eternity." The Bible contains little that corresponds to our modern eulogy. Yet Jesus paid a great tribute to John the Baptist when he faced the looming threat of execution by Herod. From prison, John sent his disciples to confirm the identity of Jesus the Messiah(Matt.11:2-6). Jesus talked with them, then told the listening crowd, "Among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he"(v.11). Jesus' tribute captured the essence of the desert-dwelling, straight-preaching John, who was maligned and misunderstood as he prepared the way for the Son of God. John's greatness was more than personal; it was wrapped up in the kingdom of God. He wrote his own eulogy by his actions. As we ponder what we might say about others at their passing, it's also good to ask, "What will people say about me when it's time to say goodbye?" - David C. McCasland		[ 마태복음 11:7 - 11:19 ] - 찬송가 518 장 세례 요한보다 큰 이가 일어남이 없도다 그러나 천국에서는 극히 작은 자라도 저보다 크니라 - 마태복음 11:11 장례식에서 고인을 위한 조사를 해줄 것을 부탁 받은 적이 있다면 그것이 얼마나 어려운지, 그렇지만 얼마나 중요한지 아실 것입니다. 유명한 사람들에게 바친 헌정사들을 두 권의 책으로 편찬한 싸이러스 코플랜드는 "위대한 조사는 예술이자 건축이다. 즉 산 자와 죽은 자를, 그리고 추억과 영원을 이어주는 다리다."라고 말했습니다. 성경 속에는 현대의 조사에 해당하는 내용이 거의 없습니다. 그럼에도 예수님은 세례 요한이 헤롯에 의해 처형될 것이 확실하게 되었을 때 그에게 훌륭한 조사를 해줍니다. 감옥에서 세례 요한은 자신의 제자들을 보내어 예수님이 정말 메시아이신지 확인하려고 했습니다(마11:2-6). 예수님은 그들과 이야기를 나누시고는 청중들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. "여자가 낳은 자 중에 세례 요한보다 큰 이가 일어남이 없도다 그러나 천국에서는 극히 작은 자라도 그보다 크니라"(11절). 예수님의 조사는 사막에 거주하며 직설적으로 설교하던, 하나님의 아들을 위해 길을 예비하던 과정에서 중상모략을 당하고 또 오해를 받았던 세례 요한의 진수를 잘 보여주고 있습니다. 세례 요한의 위대함은 인간적인 것에 그치지 않고 천국과 연관되어 있었던 것입니다. 그는 자신의 조사를 그 자신의 행동으로 썼던 것입니다. 남들이 세상을 떠날 때 그들에 대해 무슨 말을 할까 하고 생각하면서, 동시에 "내가 세상을 떠날 때 사람들이 나에 대해 무어라고 말할까?" 하고 생각해 보는 것도 유익한 일입니다.

Living for the Lord today leaves a lasting legacy when we're gone.

Matthew 11:7-19

[7] As John's disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: "What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind?
[8] If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings' palaces.
[9] Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
[10] This is the one about whom it is written: "'I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.'
[11] I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
[12] From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.
[13] For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.
[14] And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.
[15] He who has ears, let him hear.
[16] "To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
[17] "'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'
[18] For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.'
[19] The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." 'But wisdom is proved right by her actions."

우리의 하루하루 삶의 모습이
우리의 조사를 만드는 것이라네
그러니 스스로에게 물어보라
"내가 떠날 때 사람들이 나에 대해 무어라 할까?"

주님을 위해 오늘을 살면 죽은 후 영원한 유산을 남기게 된다.

마태복음 11:7-19

[7] 저희가 떠나매 예수께서 무리에게 요한에 대하여 말씀하시되 너희가 무엇을 보려고 광야에 나갔더냐 바람에 흔들리는 갈대냐
[8] 그러면 너희가 무엇을 보려고 나갔더냐 부드러운 옷 입은 사람이냐 부드러운 옷을 입은 자들은 왕궁에 있느니라
[9] 그러면 너희가 어찌하여 나갔더냐 선지자를 보려더냐 옳다 내가 너희에게 이르노니 선지자보다도 나은 자니라
[10] 기록된 바 보라 내가 내 사자를 네 앞에 보내노니 저가 네 길을 네 앞에 예비하리라 하신 것이 이 사람에 대한 말씀이니라
[11] 내가 진실로 너희에게 말하노니 여자가 낳은 자 중에 세례 요한보다 큰 이가 일어남이 없도다 그러나 천국에서는 극히 작은 자라도 저보다 크니라
[12] 세례 요한의 때부터 지금까지 천국은 침노를 당하나니 침노하는 자는 빼앗느니라
[13] 모든 선지자와 및 율법의 예언한 것이 요한까지니
[14] 만일 너희가 즐겨 받을진대 오리라 한 엘리야가 곧 이 사람이니라
[15] 귀 있는 자는 들을지어다
[16] 이 세대를 무엇으로 비유할꼬 비유컨대 아이들이 장터에 앉아 제 동무를 불러
[17] 가로되 우리가 너희를 향하여 피리를 불어도 너희가 춤추지 않고 우리가 애곡하여도 너희가 가슴을 치지 아니하였다 함과 같도다
[18] 요한이 와서 먹지도 않고 마시지도 아니하매 저희가 말하기를 귀신이 들렸다 하더니
[19] 인자는 와서 먹고 마시매 말하기를 보라 먹기를 탐하고 포도주를 즐기는 사람이요 세리와 죄인의 친구로다 하니 지혜는 그 행한 일로 인하여 옳다 함을 얻느니라
