Dying To Live		살기 위해 죽기
[ Matthew 16:21 - 16:28 ] - hymn 521 Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. - Matthew 16:25 Western Michigan is plagued by snowy winters, requiring that salt be put on road surfaces to make them safer to travel. The problem is that salt eats away at a car's metal body. So, going to a car wash is a frequent winter ritual. Recently I was sitting in a car-wash facility near the end of the washing process when the machines began to spray a special liquid all over the car. The sign said it was a "drying agent," but that struck me as odd. Wetting something down to dry it seems contrary to what you'd expect. Yet that is precisely what those chemicals are designed to do. It is counter-intuitive thinking-a paradox. Jesus also dealt in counter-intuitive thinking when presenting His kingdom message to His followers. In Matthew 16:25, He said, "Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it." That doesn't sound right. To save your life, you have to lose it? That seems like saying, "To dry something, you wet it down!" Yet, it is absolutely true. Only as we die to self, entrusting ownership of our lives to Christ, can we learn what it means to really live. "Dying to live" may seem counter-intuitive, but it is the heart of the Christian experience. - Bill Crowder		[ 마태복음 16:21 - 16:28 ] - 찬송가 521 장 누구든지 제 목숨을 구원코자 하면 잃을 것이요 누구든지 나를 위하여 제 목숨을 잃으면 찾으리라 - 마태복음16:25 겨울에 내리는 많은 눈이 골칫거리인 서부 미시간 지역에서는 안전한 주행을 위해 도로 위에 소금을 뿌리도록 되어있습니다. 문제는 그 소금이 자동차의 금속 부분을 부식시킨다는 것입니다. 그래서 겨울이 되면 으레 자주 세차를 하러가게 됩니다. 나는 최근에 세차장에 앉아서 세차 과정이 거의 끝날 무렵 그 기계가 자동차 전면에 특수한 액체를 뿌리기 시작하는 것을 보았습니다. 그것이 "건조제"라고 전광판에 안내가 나왔지만 참 이상하다는 생각이 들었습니다. 무언가를 말리기 위해서 그것을 액체로 적신다는 것은 여러분의 예상과 상반되는 것입니다. 그렇지만 그 화학제품은 그러한 용도로 사용되도록 제조되었습니다. 이것은 반직관적 사고, 즉 역설입니다. 예수님 또한 제자들에게 하나님의 나라에 대한 말씀을 전할 때 반직관적 사고에 대해 언급하셨습니다. 마태복음 16장 25절에서 "누구든지 제 목숨을 구원코자 하면 잃을 것이요 누구든지 나를 위하여 제 목숨을 잃으면 찾으리라"라고 하셨습니다. 언뜻 듣기에 맞지 않는 것 같이 들립니다. 자기 생명을 구하기 위해 자기 생명을 버려라? 그것은 "무엇을 말리려면, 그것을 적시십시오!"라고 말하는 것과 같습니다. 하지만 이 말씀은 분명히 진리입니다. 우리가 자기를 버리고 그리스도께서 우리 삶의 주인 되심을 인정할 때만 진정한 삶의 의미를 배울 수 있습니다. "살기 위해 죽는다"는 것이 반직관적으로 들릴지 모르지만 그리스도인의 체험 중 가장 핵심적인 것입니다.

Less of self and more of Jesus,
More and more each day like Thee;
Just to live in full surrender
For my Lord who ransomed me. - Wonder

To live for Christ, we must learn to die to self.

Matthew 16:21-28

[21] From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
[22] Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!"
[23] Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."
[24] Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
[25] For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.
[26] What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
[27] For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.
[28] I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

자신을 죽이고 주님을 살리며
날마다 점점 더 주님을 닮아
온전히 복종하며 살아야 하네
죄값을 치뤄주신 주님을 위해

그리스도를 위해 살려면 자신에 대해 죽는 법을 배워야 한다.

마태복음 16:21-28

[21] 이 때로부터 예수 그리스도께서 자기가 예루살렘에 올라가 장로들과 대제사장들과 서기관들에게 많은 고난을 받고 죽임을 당하고 제 삼 일에 살아나야 할 것을 제자들에게 비로소 가르치시니
[22] 베드로가 예수를 붙들고 간하여 가로되 주여 그리 마옵소서 이 일이 결코 주에게 미치지 아니하리이다
[23] 예수께서 돌이키시며 베드로에게 이르시되 사단아 내 뒤로 물러가라 너는 나를 넘어지게 하는 자로다 네가 하나님의 일을 생각지 아니하고 도리어 사람의 일을 생각하는도다 하시고
[24] 이에 예수께서 제자들에게 이르시되 아무든지 나를 따라 오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 좇을 것이니라
[25] 누구든지 제 목숨을 구원코자 하면 잃을 것이요 누구든지 나를 위하여 제 목숨을 잃으면 찾으리라
[26] 사람이 만일 온 천하를 얻고도 제 목숨을 잃으면 무엇이 유익하리요 사람이 무엇을 주고 제 목숨을 바꾸겠느냐
[27] 인자가 아버지의 영광으로 그 천사들과 함께 오리니 그 때에 각 사람의 행한 대로 갚으리라
[28] 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 여기 섰는 사람 중에 죽기 전에 인자가 그 왕권을 가지고 오는 것을 볼 자들도 있느니라
