Two Kingdoms		두개의 왕국
[ Matthew 22:15 - 22:22 ] - hymn 514 Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. - Matthew 22:21 In a report in USA Today, Rick Hampson wrote: "The young generally don't have the old-time political religion. They look at voting and see a quaint, irrational act." One graduate was quoted as saying, "I don't care enough to care about why I don't care." I wonder if this is how we as Jesus-followers sometimes view our civic responsibility! The insights of Jesus in Matthew 22 helped His followers think clearly about their civic duty in the world. The Jews were required to pay taxes to the Roman government. They hated this taxation because the money went directly into Caesar's treasury, where some of it supported the pagan temples and decadent lifestyle of the Roman aristocracy. They may have questioned whether they even had a civic responsibility to Caesar. Jesus reminded them, however, that they had dual citizenship. They lived in a world with two kingdoms-Caesar's kingdom(human authority) and God's kingdom(spiritual authority). They had responsibilities to both, but their greater responsibility was to God and His kingdom(Acts5:28-29). As followers of Christ, we are commanded to cooperate with our rulers, but we are called to give God our ultimate obedience and commitment. - Marvin Williams		[ 마태복음 22:15 - 22:22 ] - 찬송가 514 장 그런즉 가이사의 것은 가이사에게, 하나님의 것은 하나님께 바치라 하시니 - 마태복음 22:21 릭햄슨이라는 기자가 유에스에이 투데이 신문에 "젊은 세대들은 일반적으로 이전 시대의 정치적 신조를 갖고 있지 않다. 그들은 선거를 색다르고 불합리한 행동으로 여긴다."라고 기고했습니다. 그는 한 대학원생이 "나는 내가 왜 선거에 관심이 없는지에 대한 이유조차 알고 싶지 않다."라고 말한 것을 인용하였습니다. 나는 종종 이것이 시민으로서의 의무에 대해 예수님을 따르는 우리들이 지니고 있는 견해가 아닐까 생각합니다. 마태복음 22장에서 예수님이 주신 말씀은 제자들이 세상 시민으로서 그들의 의무에 대해 분명히 이해하는데 도움이 되었습니다. 당시 유대 사람들은 로마정부에 세금을 내도록 요구받았습니다. 그들은 세금이 직접 로마황제의 국고로 들어갔고, 그 중 일부는 이교도 신전과 로마 귀족들의 퇴폐적인 생활양식을 위해서 사용되었기에, 이러한 과세를 싫어했습니다. 로마황제에게 시민으로서의 의무를 지녀야 하는지 자체도 그들은 의심하였을지 모릅니다. 그러나 예수님께서는 그들이 이중 시민권을 가지고 있음을 상기시켜주셨습니다. 그들은 두개의 왕국, 즉 로마황제의 왕국(인간적 권세)과 하나님의 왕국(영적 권세)에서 살고 있었습니다. 그들은 양쪽 왕국 모두에 대해 의무를 가졌지만 더 큰 의무는 하나님과 하나님의 왕국에 대한 것이었습니다(행5:28-29). 예수님의 제자로서 우리는 통치자들에게 협력하라고 명령을 받지만, 우리의 궁극적인 순종과 헌신은 하나님을 향하도록 부름을 받습니다.

We live today as citizens of two worlds,
And this demands a duty to fulfill;
But greater far should be our heart's desire

Government has authority, but God has ultimate authority.

Matthew 22:15-22

[15] Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words.
[16] They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. "Teacher," they said, "we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are.
[17] Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
[18] But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me?
[19] Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius,
[20] and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"
[21] "Caesar's," they replied. Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
[22] When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

오늘 우리는 두 세상 시민으로 산다네
그리고 거기에는 순종의 의무가 따른다네
그러나 마음속에 훨씬 더 소원하는 바는
예수님을 높이며 항상 그 뜻을 행하는 것이어야 하네

정부에도 권위가 있지만 궁극적 권위는 하나님께 있다.

마태복음 22:15-22

[15] 이에 바리새인들이 가서 어떻게 하여 예수로 말의 올무에 걸리게 할까 상론하고
[16] 자기 제자들을 헤롯 당원들과 함께 예수께 보내어 말하되 선생님이여 우리가 아노니 당신은 참되시고 참으로써 하나님의 도를 가르치시며 아무라도 꺼리는 일이 없으시니 이는 사람을 외모로 보지 아니하심이니이다
[17] 그러면 당신의 생각에는 어떠한지 우리에게 이르소서 가이사에게 세를 바치는 것이 가하니이까 불가하니이까 한대
[18] 예수께서 저희의 악함을 아시고 가라사대 외식하는 자들아 어찌하여 나를 시험하느냐
[19] 셋돈을 내게 보이라 하시니 데나리온 하나를 가져왔거늘
[20] 예수께서 말씀하시되 이 형상과 이 글이 뉘 것이냐
[21] 가로되 가이사의 것이니이다 이에 가라사대 그런즉 가이사의 것은 가이사에게 하나님의 것은 하나님께 바치라 하시니
[22] 저희가 이 말씀을 듣고 기이히 여겨 예수를 떠나가니라
