[ Matthew 16:13 - 16:17 ] - hymn 327 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." - Matthew 16:16 When Jesus asked a question, it was not because He didn't know the answer. You can be sure He was making a point. Jesus and His disciples were in Caesarea Philippi, away from their own territory. It was a place of idolatry and oppression-a threatening place both politically and spiritually. In this environment, Jesus posed two important questions about the perception of His identity. He wasn't interested in His popularity rating. He wanted His followers to be sure about the One they were following. Today our culture is just as hostile and opposed to Jesus as when He first asked the question: "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" (Matt. 16:13). As in Jesus' day, people offer a long list of inadequate and incorrect ideas about Jesus, ranging from "just a good teacher" all the way to "divisive" and "intolerant." The real question was and continues to be: "Who do you say that I am?"(16:15). Peter boldly declared, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God"(v.16). Jesus said that Peter's accurate confession was a God-given insight and that he was blessed because of his declaration(v.17). Join Peter in confessing that Jesus is your Savior. Your life will be bolstered and blessed. - Joe Stowell		[ 마태복음 16:13 - 16:17 ] - 찬송가 327 장 시몬 베드로가 대답하여가로되 주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들이시니이다 - 마태복음 16:16 예수님이 질문하셨을 때는 답을 몰라서물으신 것이 아니었습니다. 예수님은 어떤 것을 강조하고자 하셨던 것입니다. 예수님과 제자들은 그들의 고장에서 떨어진 가이사랴 빌립보에 있었습니다. 그곳은 우상 숭배와 압제의 장소였습니다. 정치적으로도, 그리고 영적으로도 위협적인 장소였습니다. 이런 환경에서 예수님은 그분의 본질에 관한 두 가지 중요한 질문을 하셨습니다. 예수님은 자신의 인기도에 대해서는 관심이 없으셨습니다. 주님은 그의 제자들이 누구를 따르고 있는지에 대해 확실히 알기를 원하셨던 것입니다. 예수님이 "사람들이 인자를 누구라 하느냐"(마16:13)고 처음 물어 보셨던 그 당시와 마찬가지로, 우리는 오늘날 예수님을 적대시 하고 반대하는 문화 속에 살고 있습니다. 예수님 당시와 마찬가지로, 사람들은 예수님에 대해 "단지 훌륭한 선생"으로부터 "불화를 일으키는" "편협한" 사람에 이르기까지 다양하게 부적절하고 부정확한 생각들을 갖고 있습니다. 그때나 지금이나 계속되는 실제적인 질문은 "너희는 나를 누구라 하느냐"(16:15)입니다. 베드로는 담대하게 "주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들이시니이다"(16절)라고 선언했습니다. 예수님은 베드로의 이 정확한 고백은 하나님께서 알게 하신 것이요, 그 선언으로 인하여 복을 받으리라고 말씀하셨습니다(17절). 당신도 베드로처럼 예수님이 당신의 구주이심을 고백하십시오. 당신의 삶이 강건하고 복받게 될 것입니다.

[13] When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
[14] They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
[15] "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
[16] Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
[17] Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.
