More Than Wishing		바라는 것 이상으로
[ Matthew 6:5 - 6:15 ] - hymn 460 Your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. - Matthew 6:8 As a child, C. S. Lewis enjoyed reading the books of E. Nesbit, especially Five Children and It. In this book, brothers and sisters on a summer holiday discover an ancient sand fairy who grants them one wish each day. But every wish brings the children more trouble than happiness because they can't foresee the results of getting everything they ask for. The Bible tells us to make our requests known to God (Philippians 4:6). But prayer is much more than telling God what we want Him to do for us. When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, He began by reminding them, "Your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him" (Matthew 6:8). What we call "The Lord's Prayer" is more about living in a growing, trusting relationship with our heavenly Father than about getting what we want from Him. As we grow in faith, our prayers will become less of a wish list and more of an intimate conversation with the Lord. Toward the end of his life, C. S. Lewis wrote, "If God had granted all the silly prayers I've made in my life, where should I be now?" Prayer is placing ourselves in the presence of God to receive from Him what we really need. - David McCasland		[ 마태복음 6:5 - 6:15 ] - 찬송가 460 장 구하기 전에 너희에게 있어야 할 것을 하나님 너희 아버지께서 아시느니라 - 마태복음 6:8 C.S. 루이스는 어렸을 적에 네스빗의 책들을 즐겨 읽었는데, '다섯 명의 아이들과 그것'이라는 책을 특히 좋아했습니다. 이 책은 여름 방학에 어떤 다섯 남매가 그들의 소원을 매일 하나씩 들어주는 오래된 모래 요정을 만나 일어나는 이야기입니다. 그런데 그들이 구하는 모든 것을 얻음으로 인해 발생하는 결과를 미리 예측할 수 없기 때문에 모든 소원이 이루어지면서 행복보다는 문제가 더 많이 발생합니다. 성경은 우리의 바라는 것을 하나님께 아뢰라고 말씀합니다(빌 4:6). 그러나 기도는 하나님이 우리를 위해서 해주었으면 하는 것을 하나님께 말씀 드리는 것 이상의 것입니다. 예수님께서 제자들에게 기도하는 법을 가르쳐 주실 때, "구하기 전에 너희에게 있어야 할 것을 하나님 너희 아버지께서 아시느니라" (마 6:8)고 말씀 하셨습니다. 우리가 "주기도문"이라고 부르는 것은 하나님으로부터 우리가 원하는 것을 얻어내는 것이라기보다 하늘에 계신 하나님 아버지와 풍성하고 신뢰하는 관계 속에서 살기 위한 기도입니다. 우리가 신앙 가운데 자라가면서, 우리의 기도는 희망 사항을 아뢰는 것으로부터 주님과 친밀한 대화를 하는 것으로 점점 바뀔 것입니다. 그의 말년에 C.S. 루이스는 "하나님께서 내 생애 동안 구한 어리석은 기도들을 모두 들어주셨다면, 나는 과연 지금 어떻게 되었을까?"라고 썼습니다. 기도란 우리에게 정말로 필요한 것을 하나님으로부터 공급받기 위해 하나님의 임재 앞에 우리를 두는 것입니다.

We grasp but a thread of the garment of prayer;
We reel at the thought of His infinite care;
We cannot conceive of a God who will say:
"Be careful for nothing; in everything pray." - Farrell

Our highest privilege is to talk to God; our highest duty is to listen to Him.

Matthew 6:5-15

[5] "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
[6] But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
[7] And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
[8] Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
[9] "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
[10] your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
[11] Give us today our daily bread.
[12] Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
[13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
[14] For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
[15] But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

기도에 대해 아주 조금 밖에 알지 못하고
하나님께서 무한히 보살피신다는 생각에도 비틀거리기에
"아무 것도 염려하지 말고 모든 일에 기도하라"는
하나님을 우리는 이해하지 못하네

우리의 최고 특권은 하나님과 대화하는 것이고
가장 큰 의무는 그분의 말을 듣는 것이다.

마태복음 6:5-15

[5] 또 너희가 기도할 때에 외식하는 자와 같이 되지 말라 저희는 사람에게 보이려고 회당과 큰 거리 어귀에 서서 기도하기를 좋아하느니라 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 저희는 자기 상을 이미 받았느니라
[6] 너는 기도할 때에 네 골방에 들어가 문을 닫고 은밀한 중에 계신 네 아버지께 기도하라 은밀한 중에 보시는 네 아버지께서 갚으시리라
[7] 또 기도할 때에 이방인과 같이 중언부언하지 말라 저희는 말을 많이 하여야 들으실 줄 생각하느니라
[8] 그러므로 저희를 본받지 말라 구하기 전에 너희에게 있어야 할 것을 하나님 너희 아버지께서 아시느니라
[9] 그러므로 너희는 이렇게 기도하라 하늘에 계신 우리 아버지여 이름이 거룩히 여김을 받으시오며
[10] 나라이 임하옵시며 뜻이 하늘에서 이룬 것 같이 땅에서도 이루어지이다
[11] 오늘날 우리에게 일용할 양식을 주옵시고
[12] 우리가 우리에게 죄 지은 자를 사하여 준 것 같이 우리 죄를 사하여 주옵시고
[13] 우리를 시험에 들게 하지 마옵시고 다만 악에서 구하옵소서 (나라와 권세와 영광이 아버지께 영원히 있사옵나이다 아멘)
[14] 너희가 사람의 과실을 용서하면 너희 천부께서도 너희 과실을 용서하시려니와
[15] 너희가 사람의 과실을 용서하지 아니하면 너희 아버지께서도 너희 과실을 용서하지 아니하시리라
