The " What Then?" Test		"그 다음에는?" 이라는시험
[ Matthew 6:19 - 6:24 ] - hymn 539 Riches are not forever. - Proverbs 27:24 From the 16th century comes a story of a probing conversation between an ambitious young man and a devout Christian named St. Philip Neri. The youth said to him excitedly, "My parents finally agreed to my studying law!" Philip asked simply, "What then?" He replied, "Then I shall become a lawyer!" "And then?" pursued Philip. "Then I shall earn lots of money, buy a country house, get a carriage and horses, marry a beautiful woman, and lead a delightful life!" he responded. Again Philip asked, "And then?" "Then ..." The young man began reflecting for the first time on death and eternity. He realized that he had not acknowledged God in his plans and was building his life on temporal values. The point of this story is not that riches are wrong. But if they become our central goal, we are ignoring eternity and trusting money, not God. Jesus said it's impossible to love both money and God (Matthew 6:24), and He warned, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, ... but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven" (vv.19-20). Young and old alike must make important life-plans. But let's keep eternity in mind by always subjecting them to the "what then?" test. - Joanie Yoder		[ 마태복음 6:19 - 6:24 ] - 찬송가 539 장 대저 재물은 영영히 있지 못하나니 - 잠언 27:24 야망을 품은 젊은이와 독실한 기독교인 성 필립 네리가 주고받은 탐색적인 대화 이야기가 16세기부터 전해져 내려오고 있습니다. 그 젊은이는 흥분해서 필립에게 이야기 했습니다. "저희 부모님께서 드디어 제가 법률 공부하는 것을 허락하셨습니다!" 필립은 "그 다음에는?" 이라고 간단하게 질문했습니다. 젊은이는 "저는 변호사가 될 것입니다!" 라고 대답했습니다. "그 다음에는?" 하고 필립이 다시 질문했습니다. 그가 대답했습니다. "그 다음엔 많은 돈을 벌어서 별장을 사고, 마차와 말도 사고, 아름다운 여자와 결혼하고 즐거운 인생을 살아갈 겁니다!" 다시 필립이 물었습니다. "그럼 그 다음에는?" "그 다음에는…" 젊은이는 그제야 죽음과 영원에 대해 생각하기 시작했습니다. 그 젊은이는 자기의 계획 속에 하나님을 인정하지 않았다는 것과 자기가 일시적인 가치를 위해 그의 삶을 세우려 했다는 것을 깨달았습니다. 이 이야기의 요점은 부유함이 나쁘다는 것을 말하고자 하는 것이 아닙니다. 그러나 부가 우리의 주요 목표가 되면 우리는 영원을 무시하며, 돈을 의지하고 하나님을 믿지 않게 됩니다. 예수님께서는 하나님과 재물을 겸하여 섬기는 것은 불가능하다고 말씀하셨습니다 (마 6:24). 주님은 "너희를 위하여 보물을 땅에 쌓아두지 말라… 오직 너희를 위하여 보물을 하늘에 쌓아 두라" (19-20절)고 경고하셨습니다. 젊은 사람이나 늙은 사람이나 다같이 중요한 인생 계획을 세워야 합니다. 그러나 그 계획을 가지고 항상 "그 다음에는?" 이라는 시험을 거치게 함으로써 영원에 대한 생각을 늘 마음에 지니도록 합시다.

Shall the great Judge say, when my task is through,
That my soul had gathered some riches too?
Or shall at the last it be mine to find
That all I had worked for I had left behind? - Anon

The true measure of our wealth is the treasure we have in heaven.

Matthew 6:19-24

[19] "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
[20] But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
[21] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
[22] "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
[23] But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
[24] "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

내 여정이 끝났을 때 대심판관이신 하나님이
내 영혼 역시 얼마간의 부를 얻었다고 말씀하실까?
아니면 나를 위해 일한 모든 것들이 뒤에 남겨진 것을
마지막 날에 내가 알게 될까?

부의 진정한 척도는 우리가 천국에 갖고 있는 보화이다.

마태복음 6:19-24

[19] 너희를 위하여 보물을 땅에 쌓아 두지 말라 거기는 좀과 동록이 해하며 도적이 구멍을 뚫고 도적질하느니라
[20] 오직 너희를 위하여 보물을 하늘에 쌓아 두라 저기는 좀이나 동록이 해하지 못하며 도적이 구멍을 뚫지도 못하고 도적질도 못하느니라
[21] 네 보물 있는 그 곳에는 네 마음도 있느니라
[22] 눈은 몸의 등불이니 그러므로 네 눈이 성하면 온 몸이 밝을 것이요
[23] 눈이 나쁘면 온 몸이 어두울 것이니 그러므로 네게 있는 빛이 어두우면 그 어두움이 얼마나 하겠느뇨
[24] 한 사람이 두 주인을 섬기지 못할 것이니 혹 이를 미워하며 저를 사랑하거나 혹 이를 중히 여기며 저를 경히 여김이라 너희가 하나님과 재물을 겸하여 섬기지 못하느니라
