Nothing will be impossible for you. - Matthew 17:20
Suppose someone asks you to take a ride in his single-engine plane. You politely decline. Why? Well, you've heard that the plane has a history of mechanical problems and you don't have confidence in its safety. The pilot assures you that he fearlessly entrusts his life to it whenever he flies. You still decline. A few weeks later the plane crashes, and he is killed. An investigation shows that the engine was faulty. The pilot had strong faith-but it was faith in a faulty object.
Many of us who are sincere Christians worry that our faith seems too small. But we need to distinguish between the size of our faith and the object of our faith.
Jesus taught that if we have faith no bigger than a tiny seed (Matthew 17:20), God will respond to our prayers according to His will, wisdom, and grace (1 John 5:14-15). He hears the faintest cry of our hearts, the feeblest whisper of our lips, and in love He listens and responds to our faith (Matthew 14:26-31).
No matter how small and insufficient we think our faith is, let's keep on praying. Remember, it is the object of our faith-our Almighty God-not the size of our faith that is all-important. - VCG
어떤 사람이 당신에게 자기의 단발 비행기를 타보라고 하는데 당신은 정중히 거절한다고 가정해 봅시다. 그 때의 이유는 무엇일까요? 아마도 당신은 그 비행기에 기계 고장이 있었다는 이야기를 듣고 비행기의 안전성을 믿지 않을 수도 있겠지요. 그 조종사는 비행할 때마다 자기는 아무 두려움 없이 그 비행기에 자신의 생명을 맡긴다고 하며 안심시킵니다. 그러나 당신은 여전히 거절합니다. 몇 주일 후에 그 비행기는 추락하고 조종사는 죽습니다. 조사 결과 비행기의 엔진에 결함이 있었다고 합니다. 그렇다면 그 조종사에게는 확고한 믿음은 있었지만 그것은 잘못된 대상에 대한 믿음이었습니다.
잘 믿는 우리 그리스도인 가운데에도 많은 사람들이 자신의 믿음이 너무 작은 것 같다고 염려합니다. 그러나 우리는 믿음의 크기와 믿음의 대상을 구별할 필요가 있습니다.
예수님은 우리에게 아주 작은 씨만한 믿음이라도 있으면(마 17:20) 하나님께서 그분의 뜻과 지혜와 은혜를 따라 우리의 기도에 응답하실 것(요일 5:14-15) 이라고 가르쳐 주셨습니다. 하나님은 우리 마음속의 가장 약한 부르짖음과 우리 입술의 가장 미세한 음성까지도 들으시고, 사랑으로 우리의 믿음에 귀를 기울이시고 응답하십니다(마 14:26-31).
우리 믿음이 아무리 작고 부족하게 생각될지라도 계속하여 기도합시다. 우리 믿음의 대상이신 전능하신 하나님이 중요한 것이지 우리 믿음의 크기가 중요한 것이 아니라는 것을 기억하십시오.

Faith must focus on God, not on itself.
Matthew 17:14-21
[14] When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him.
[15] "Lord, have mercy on my son," he said. "He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water.
[16] I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him."
[17] "O unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me."
[18] Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.
[19] Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"
[20] He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
[21] But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.
믿음이 얼마나 크게 또는 작게
느껴지느냐 하는 것은 문제가 아닙니다.
불확실의 삶 속에서 정말 중요한 것은
누구를 믿느냐 하는 것입니다.
믿음은 그 자체보다는 하나님께 초점을 맞추어야 한다.
마태복음 17:14-21
[14] 저희가 무리에게 이르매 한 사람이 예수께 와서 꿇어 엎드리어 가로되
[15] 주여 내 아들을 불쌍히 여기소서 저가 간질로 심히 고생하여 자주 불에도 넘어지며 물에도 넘어지는지라
[16] 내가 주의 제자들에게 데리고 왔으나 능히 고치지 못하더이다
[17] 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 믿음이 없고 패역한 세대여 내가 얼마나 너희와 함께 있으며 얼마나 너희를 참으리요 그를 이리로 데려오라 하시다
[18] 이에 예수께서 꾸짖으시니 귀신이 나가고 아이가 그 때부터 나으니라
[19] 이 때에 제자들이 종용히 예수께 나아와 가로되 우리는 어찌하여 쫓아내지 못하였나이까
[20] 가라사대 너희 믿음이 적은 연고니라 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 너희가 만일 믿음이 한 겨자씨만큼만 있으면 이 산을 명하여 여기서 저기로 옮기라 하여도 옮길 것이요 또 너희가 못할 것이 없으리라
