A CITY WORTH SEEKING?		찾을 만한 가치가 있는 도시?
[ Philippians 3:1 - 3:9 ] - hymn 96 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. [ PHILIPPIANS 3:8 ] On May 29, 1925, Percy Fawcett sent a final letter to his wife before he ventured deeper into the unmapped jungles of Brazil. He was seeking a fabled lost city of great splendor, determined to be the first explorer to share its location with the world after years of searching. But his team of explorers got lost, the city was never found, and many expeditions failed to recover either. Percy’s courage and passion, while admirable, was squandered on a lost city that could never be reached. If we’re honest, there are many unreachable goals in our lives that hold a similar power over us. But there is a real treasure for each person that’s worth seeking with all of our heart, mind, and strength. In his letter to believers in Philippi, Paul put it this way: “I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (PHILIPPIANS 3:8). Unlike a fabled city—yielding riches, fame, or power—knowing Jesus and believ- ing in Him is a treasure without equal. Worldly goals of power or status, or even the appearance of righteousness through keeping the law, are nothing compared to knowing Jesus (VV. 6-7). Are we spending our time and energy on something that can never sat- isfy? May Christ help us check what “city” we’re seeking. KAREN PIMPO		[ 빌립보서 3:1 - 3:9 ] - 찬송가 96 장 또한 모든 것을 해로 여김은 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 가장 고상하기 때문이라 내가 그를 위하여 모든 것을 잃어버리고 [빌립보서 3:8] 1925년 5월 29일, 퍼시 포셋은 브라질의 미개척 정글 깊숙이 들어가기 전 아내에게 마지막 편지를 보냈습니다. 그는 지금은 잃어버린 찬란한 전설적인 도시를 발견하여 그 위치를 세상에 가장 먼저 알리겠다는 결심을 하고 오랜 동안 그 도시를 찾아 헤매 왔습니다. 그러나 이번에도 그의 탐험대는 길을 잃었고, 도시는 발견되지 않았으며, 그 이후에도 이 도시를 찾는 여러 탐험대가 모두 실패했습니다. 퍼시의 용기와 열정은 분명 칭찬할만한 것이었지만, 결코 찾을 수 없는 잃어버린 도시를 찾는 일에 헛되이 쓰이고 말았습니다. 솔직히 말해, 우리 삶에도 이처럼 우리를 사로잡고 있는 도달할 수 없는 비슷한 목표들이 많이 있습니다. 그러나 우리 각자에게는 진짜 온 마음과 뜻과 힘을 다해 찾을 만한 가치가 있는 진정한 보물이 한 가지 있습니다. 빌립보 성도들에게 보낸 편지에서 바울은 이렇게 말했습니다. “또한 모든 것을 해로 여김은 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 가장 고상하기 때문이라” (빌립보서 3:8). 세상의 부와 명예, 권력을 주는 전설적인 도시와는 달리, 예수님을 알고 믿는 것은 비교불가한 보물입니다. 세상의 권력과 지위를 얻고, 심지어 율법을 지킴으로 의로워 보이는 것조차도 예수님을 아는 것에 비하면 아무것도 아닙니다(6-7절). 결코 만족을 줄 수 없는 것에 매달려 우리의 시간과 에너지를 쏟고 있지는 않습니까? 예수님의 도우심으로 우리가 지금 어떤 “도시”를 찾고 있는지 점검할 수 있기를 바랍니다.

Thank You, Jesus, that I don’t have to strive for something that can never satisfy.
I have the treasure of knowing You.

1 Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.

2 Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh.

3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh—

4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more:

5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee;

6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.

7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.

8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ

9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

예수님, 우리가 결코 만족할 수 없는 것을 위해 애쓰지 않아도 되어 감사합니다.

1 끝으로 나의 형제들아 주 안에서 기뻐하라 너희에게 같은 말을 쓰는 것이 내게는 수고로움이 없고 너희에게는 안전하니라

2 개들을 삼가고 행악하는 자들을 삼가고 몸을 상해하는 일을 삼가라

3 하나님의 성령으로 봉사하며 그리스도 예수로 자랑하고 육체를 신뢰하지 아니하는 우리가 곧 할례파라

4 그러나 나도 육체를 신뢰할 만하며 만일 누구든지 다른 이가 육체를 신뢰할 것이 있는 줄로 생각하면 나는 더욱 그러하리니

5 나는 팔일 만에 할례를 받고 이스라엘 족속이요 베냐민 지파요 히브리인 중의 히브리인이요 율법으로는 바리새인이요

6 열심으로는 교회를 박해하고 율법의 의로는 흠이 없는 자라

7 그러나 무엇이든지 내게 유익하던 것을 내가 그리스도를 위하여 다 해로 여길뿐더러

8 또한 모든 것을 해로 여김은 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 가장 고상하기 때문이라 내가 그를 위하여 모든 것을 잃어버리고 배설물로 여김은 그리스도를 얻고

9 그 안에서 발견되려 함이니 내가 가진 의는 율법에서 난 것이 아니요 오직 그리스도를 믿음으로 말미암은 것이니 곧 믿음으로 하나님께로부터 난 의라
