WHY GOOD FRIDAY		굿 프라이데이라고 부르는 이유
[ 1 John 4:7 - 4:12 ] - hymn 304 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. [ 1 JOHN 4:10 ] What’s so good about Good Friday? Why isn’t the day called Bad or Sad Friday? After all, it’s meant to be a day of sorrowful reflection, not a day of celebration. Sometimes, this day takes other names, such as Holy Friday. In Germany, it’s called Karfreitag, or Sorrowful Friday. So where did we get the tradition of calling it “Good”? Some believe it may have originated from the older tradition of calling it “God’s Friday.” No matter the origin of the name, it’s still appropriate to call the Friday on which Jesus died “good.” Out of Christ’s sacrificial love, He died for our sins. That’s why Good Friday is good. And the great news is that three days later He rose from the grave in victory. New Testament scholar D.A. Carson wrote, “It was not nails that held Jesus to that wretched cross; it was his unqualified resolution, out of love for his Father, to do his Father’s will—and it was his love for sinners like me.” We read in 1 John 4: “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (V. 10). The good news of Good Friday is that God loves us and wants to have a relationship with us! Because of that love, we’re called to love others (VV. 7, 11). When we do, we show our love for Him. ALYSON KIEDA		[ 요한1서 4:7 - 4:12 ] - 찬송가 304 장 사랑은 여기 있으니 우리가 하나님을 사랑한 것이 아니요 하나님이 우리를 사랑하사 우리 죄를 속하기 위하여 화목제물로 그 아들을 보내셨음이라 [요한1서 4:10] 성 금요일은 영어로 왜 좋은 금요일(굿 프라이데이)일까요? 왜 나쁜 금요일이나 슬픈 금요일이라고 하지 않았을까요? 어쨌든 이 날은 슬픔을 되새기는 날이지 축하할 날은 아닙니다. 그래서 이 날을 ‘거룩한 금요일’이라고도 하고, 독일에서는 카르프라이탁(Karfreitag), 즉 ‘슬픈 금요일’ 이라 부르기도 합니다. 그러면 “좋다”는 표현은 어디서 왔을까요? 오래 전에 이 날을 “하나님의 금요일”이라고 부른 데서 비롯되었다고 보는 사람들도 있습니다. 그 이름의 기원이 무엇이든 예수님이 돌아가신 금요일을 “좋다”고 일컫는 것은 적절한 것입니다. 그리스도께서는 자신을 희생하는 사랑으로 우리의 죄를 위해 죽으셨습니다. 그래서 성금요일은 “좋은” 금요일입니다. 게다가 놀라운 소식은 그분이 사흘 만에 무덤에서 일어나 승리하셨다는 것입니다. 신약 학자 D.A. 카슨은 이렇게 썼습니다. “예수님을 그 험한 십자가에 매단 것은 못이 아니라, 아버지를 사랑하여 그분의 뜻을 따르겠다는 예수님의 굳은 결심이었고, 나 같은 죄인을 향한 사랑이었습니다.” 요한1서 4장은 이렇게 기록합니다. “사랑은 여기 있으니 우리가 하나님을 사랑한 것이 아니요 하나님이 우리를 사랑하사 우리 죄를 속하기 위하여 화목 제물로 그 아들을 보내셨음이라”(10절). 성금요일의 좋은 소식은 하나님이 우리를 사랑하시고, 우리와 관계를 회복하기 원하신다는 것입니다! 그 사랑 때문에 이제 우리도 서로 사랑하라는 소명을 받았습니다(7, 11절). 우리가 서로 사랑할 때 우리는 하나님에 대한 사랑을 나타냅니다.

12 어느 때나 하나님을 본 사람이 없으되 만일 우리가 서로 사랑하면 하나님이 우리 안에 거하시고 그의 사랑이 우리 안에 온전히 이루어지느니라
