[ Genesis 39:2 - 39:23 ] - hymn 323 Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care. [ GENESIS 39:6 ] Like all Singaporean men, I had to serve in the country’s armed forces when I turned eighteen. To be honest, I approached the conscription, which lasted two-and-a-half years, most reluctantly. Like many other young men, I tried to do the minimum, obeying instructions to the letter—no more, no less. Some, however, threw themselves into their tasks and ulti-mately gained much from their experience, learning about leadership and endurance. In hindsight, I realize that this type of effort and positive attitude would have pleased God—much like what Joseph showed in Scripture. Despite being sold off as a slave and imprisoned later on, he fulfilled all his assigned responsibilities with the greatest dedica-tion. Instead of resenting his situation, he took his role seriously, so much so that “Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care” (GENESIS 39:6). Joseph also ended up in charge of the prison—and, finally, all of Egypt. Centuries later, the apostle Paul would also urge believers in Jesus: “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (COLOSSIANS 3:17). While our situations may be far from ideal, may God help us to be faithful in the tasks assigned to us, for we’re working for Him—the one who sees our true heart. LESLIE KOH		[ 창세기 39:2 - 39:23 ] - 찬송가 323 장 주인(보디발)이 그의 소유를 다 요셉의 손에 위탁하고 [창세기 39:6] 모든 싱가포르 남자들처럼 나도 열여덟 살이 되었을 때 군대에 복무해야 했습니다. 솔직히 말해, 나는 2년 반 동안의 징집 생활을 내키지 않는 마음으로 임했습니다. 많은 젊은이들처럼 나는 주어진 명령을 딱 필요한 만큼만 따르며 최소한의 것만 하려고 노력했습니다. 그러나 어떤 이들은 자신들에게 주어진 임무에 온 힘을 쏟아부었고, 결국 그 경험을 통해 리더십과 인내를 배우며 많은 것을 얻었습니다. 돌이켜보니, 이러한 노력과 긍정적인 태도가 바로 하나님을 기쁘시게 했을 것임을 깨닫습니다. 마치 성경 속 요셉의 모습과 같이 말입니다. 노예로 팔려가고 나중에는 감옥에 갇혔음에도 불구하고, 요셉은 자신에게 맡겨진 책임을 최고의 헌신을 다해 감당했습니다. 요셉은 자신의 상황을 원망하는 대신 맡은 일을 진지하게 받아들였고, 그 결과 “주인(보디발)이 그의 소유를 다 요셉의 손에 위탁하였습니다”(창세기 39:6). 요셉은 또한 감옥 안에서도 책임자가 되었고, 결국에는 이집트 전체를 다스리게 되었습니다. 여러 세기가 지난 후, 바울 사도 또한 예수님을 믿는 이들에게 “무엇을 하든지 말에나 일에나 다 주 예수의 이름으로 하라”(골로새서 3:17)고 권면합니다. 우리의 상황이 이상과는 거리가 아주 멀지라도, 우리에게 맡겨진 일에 충실할 수 있도록 하나님께서 도와주시기를 바랍니다. 우리는 하나님, 곧 우리의 진정한 마음을 아시는 그분을 위해 일하고 있기 때문입니다.

Dear Father, please help me be faithful in what I do, in whatever situation You’ve allowed me to be in, for ultimately, I’m serving You.

2 The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.

3 When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did,

4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.

5 From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.

6 So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph's care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,

20 Joseph's master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was there in the prison,

21 the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.

22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.

23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph's care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.

결국 그것이 하나님을 섬기는 일이기 때문입니다.

2 여호와께서 요셉과 함께 하시므로 그가 형통한 자가 되어 그의 주인 애굽 사람의 집에 있으니

3 그의 주인이 여호와께서 그와 함께 하심을 보며 또 여호와께서 그의 범사에 형통하게 하심을 보았더라

4 요셉이 그의 주인에게 은혜를 입어 섬기매 그가 요셉을 가정 총무로 삼고 자기의 소유를 다 그의 손에 위탁하니

5 그가 요셉에게 자기의 집과 그의 모든 소유물을 주관하게 한 때부터 여호와께서 요셉을 위하여 그 애굽 사람의 집에 복을 내리시므로 여호와의 복이 그의 집과 밭에 있는 모든 소유에 미친지라

6 주인이 그의 소유를 다 요셉의 손에 위탁하고 자기가 먹는 음식 외에는 간섭하지 아니하였더라 요셉은 용모가 빼어나고 아름다웠더라

20 이에 요셉의 주인이 그를 잡아 옥에 가두니 그 옥은 왕의 죄수를 가두는 곳이었더라 요셉이 옥에 갇혔으나

21 여호와께서 요셉과 함께 하시고 그에게 인자를 더하사 간수장에게 은혜를 받게 하시매

22 간수장이 옥중 죄수를 다 요셉의 손에 맡기므로 그 제반 사무를 요셉이 처리하고

23 간수장은 그의 손에 맡긴 것을 무엇이든지 살펴보지 아니하였으니 이는 여호와께서 요셉과 함께 하심이라 여호와께서 그를 범사에 형통하게 하셨더라
