REVERENT FEAR OF GOD		하나님을 경외하는 마음
[ Deuteronomy 10:12 - 10:15 ] - hymn 28 Fear the LORD your God. [ DEUTERONOMY 10:12 ] “I killed people in the past,” Tanitan said, “but ever since I chose to believe in Jesus Christ, He will not allow me to commit such practices anymore.” Tanitan, a member of the Ilongot tribe from the Sierra Madre mountains in the Philippines, came from a culture of head-hunting—the practice of hunting humans and severing their heads. In comparing his life before he knew God to his life now, Tanitan said, “Before, I was afraid to die but not afraid to kill. Now, I am afraid to kill but not afraid to die.” As I read Tanitan’s story in the book To the Headhunters of Sierra Madre by Florentino Santos, I thought of how his newfound fear of or reverence toward God developed his desire to obey Him. I remembered Moses’ words to the Israelites before they entered the land God promised them: “What does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God” (DEUTERONOMY 10:12). Reverence toward God was to be reflected in obedience to Him. God’s people were to “walk in obedience to Him, to love Him . . . and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees” (VV. 12-13). As believers in Jesus, our deep respect for God’s holiness compels us to hate evil and do what pleases Him (PROVERBS 8:13). Let’s ask Him to help us make reverence toward God a way of life. KAREN HUANG		[ 신명기 10:12 - 10:15 ] - 찬송가 28 장 네 하나님 여호와를 경외하라 [신명기 10:12] “저는 과거에 사람들을 죽였습니다.” 타니탄의 말입니다. “하지만 예수 그리스도를 믿기로 한 이후, 주님은 제가 다시는 그런 일을 저지르도록 내버려 두지 않으십니다.” 필리핀 시에라 마드레 산맥에 사는 일롱고트 부족인 타니탄은 사람을 사냥해 머리를 자르는 ‘헤드헌팅’ 문화 속에서 자랐습니다. 타니탄은 하나님을 알기 전과 후의 삶을 이렇게 비교합니다. “예전에는 내가 죽는 것이 두려웠고 사람을 죽이는 일은 두렵지 않았습니다. 하지만 지금은 사람을 죽이는 것이 두렵고 죽는 것은 두렵지 않습니다.” 플로렌티노 산토스의 ‘시에라 마드레의 헤드헌터들에게’라는 저서에 나오는 타니탄의 이야기를 읽으며, 저는 그가 하나님을 향한 새로운 두려움 이나 경외심이 어떻게 그분께 순종하고 싶은 의욕을 일으켰는지 생각해 봅니다. 성경에서 이스라엘 백성들이 하나님이 약속하신 땅에 들어가기 전 모세가 했던 말이 떠올랐습니다. “네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 요구 하시는 것이 무엇이냐 곧 네 하나님 여호와를 경외하여”(신명기 10:12)라는 말씀입니다. 하나님을 향한 경외심은 그분에 대한 순종으로 나타나야 했습 니다. 하나님의 백성은 “그의 모든 도를 행하고 그를 사랑하며... 여호와의 명령과 규례를 지킬 것”(12-13절)을 요구 받았습니다. 예수를 믿는 사람으로서, 하나님의 거룩함에 대한 우리의 깊은 존경심은 우리가 악을 미워하고 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 일을 하도록 합니다(잠언 8:13). 하나님을 경외하는 마음이 우리 삶의 방식이 되도록 도와달라고 주님께 간구합시다.

Holy God, please help me to experience reverent fear in Your presence.

12 And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

13 and to observe the Lord's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

14 To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.

15 Yet the Lord set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations—as it is today.

오늘의 성경 말씀에 있는 “여호와를 경외”한다는 말을 어떻게 설명하시겠습니까?
어떤 부분에서 하나님께 순종하기 어렵습니까?
그럴 때 하나님을 경외하라는 명령이 어떻게 도움이 될 수 있을까요??

거룩하신 하나님, 주님 앞에서 경외하는 마음을 경험할 수 있도록 도와주소서.

12 ○이스라엘아 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 요구하시는 것이 무엇이냐 곧 네 하나님 여호와를 경외하여 그의 모든 도를 행하고 그를 사랑하며 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 네 하나님 여호와를 섬기고

13 내가 오늘 네 행복을 위하여 네게 명하는 여호와의 명령과 규례를 지킬 것이 아니냐

14 하늘과 모든 하늘의 하늘과 땅과 그 위의 만물은 본래 네 하나님 여호와께 속한 것이로되

15 여호와께서 오직 네 조상들을 기뻐하시고 그들을 사랑하사 그들의 후손인 너희를 만민 중에서 택하셨음이 오늘과 같으니라
