[ Romans 6:4 - 6:12 ] - hymn 436 Our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin. [ ROMANS 6:6 ] Elijah had accidentally ripped a ten-dollar bill while playing with his friends. But instead of admonishing him, his father offered to exchange the torn bill with a fresh one from his wallet. “Why would you do that?” Elijah asked, confused. “For one, you’re my son,” his father explained. “It’s also a reminder of what Jesus did for us. Because Jesus came and gave His life in exchange for ours, we can now live new lives.” Every human life is valuable to God because He created each of us. But our sinful nature—“the body ruled by sin” (ROMANS 6:6)—keeps us from living a life worthy of God’s holiness. So God, in His great love for us, willingly gave up His Son to pay the price of our sin. Our old self was put to death, and in exchange, He offers us a new one—“no longer . . . slaves to sin” (V. 6). When we accept God’s offer of new life, we can be assured that even though our old self was sinful and broken—“corrupted by its deceitful desires” (EPHESIANS 4:22), we are now being perfected “to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (V. 24). Elijah’s father was willing to offer him something of his own because he loves him. But the even better offer is the one God extends to us: the redemption of our lives. When we accept His offer of new life, we aren’t the same as we were before. JASMINE GOH		[ 로마서 6:4 - 6:12 ] - 찬송가 436 장 우리가 알거니와 우리의 옛 사람이 예수와 함께 십자가에 못 박힌 것은 죄의 몸이 죽어 다시는 죄에게 종 노릇 하지 아니하려 함이니 [로마서 6:6] 일라이자는 친구들과 놀다가 그만 실수로 10달러 지폐를 찢었습니다. 하지만 아버지는 그를 꾸짖지 않고 찢어진 지폐를 지갑에 있는 새 돈으로 바꾸어 주었습니다. “왜 바꿔주셨어요?” 일라이자가 궁금해 물었습니다. 그의 아버지는 “우선 네가 내 아들이니까. 그리고 이건 예수님이 우리에게 하신 일을 생각해서야. 예수님이 오셔서 우리 대신 생명을 주셨기 때문에 우리가 이제 새 삶을 살 수 있는 거란다.”라고 설명했습니다. 모든 사람의 생명이 하나님께 소중합니다. 그것은 하나님이 우리 하나 하나를 창조하셨기 때문입니다. 그러나 우리의 죄 된 본성, 곧 “죄의 몸”(로마서 6:6)이 우리를 하나님의 거룩하심에 합당한 삶을 살지 못하게 합니다. 그래서 하나님은 우리를 향하신 큰 사랑으로 그의 아들을 기꺼이 내주어 우리의 죗값을 지불하셨습니다. 우리 옛 자아는 죽었고 대신 예수님이 우리에게 “다시는 죄에게 종 노릇하지 않는”(6절) 새로운 자아를 주셨습니다. 우리가 하나님이 주시는 새로운 삶을 받아들일 때, 우리의 옛 자아가 전에는 “유혹의 욕심을 따라 썩어져”(에베소서 4:22) 죄 많으며 망가졌을지라도, 이제 우리는 “하나님을 따라 의와 진리의 거룩함으로”(24절) 완성되어 가는 것을 확신하게 됩니다. 일라이자의 아버지는 아들을 사랑하여 자기의 것을 기꺼이 내주었습니다. 그러나 더 좋은 선물은 하나님이 주신 우리 생명의 구원입니다. 하나님이 주시는 새 생명을 받아들일 때, 우리는 이전과 같은 사람이 아닌 것입니다.

Dear God, thank You for offering me new life, set free from sin, through faith in Christ.

4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.

6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—

7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.

10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

예수님을 구원자로 받아들이기 전 당신의 삶은 어떠했습니까?
그리고 지금의 삶은 어떻습니까?

사랑하는 하나님, 그리스도를 믿음으로 죄에서 벗어나 새로운 생명을 주심을 감사드립니다.

4 그러므로 우리가 그의 죽으심과 합하여 세례를 받음으로 그와 함께 장사되었나니 이는 아버지의 영광으로 말미암아 그리스도를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리심과 같이 우리로 또한 새 생명 가운데서 행하게 하려 함이라

5 만일 우리가 그의 죽으심과 같은 모양으로 연합한 자가 되었으면 또한 그의 부활과 같은 모양으로 연합한 자도 되리라

6 우리가 알거니와 우리의 옛 사람이 예수와 함께 십자가에 못 박힌 것은 죄의 몸이 죽어 다시는 우리가 죄에게 종 노릇 하지 아니하려 함이니

7 이는 죽은 자가 죄에서 벗어나 의롭다 하심을 얻었음이라

8 만일 우리가 그리스도와 함께 죽었으면 또한 그와 함께 살 줄을 믿노니

9 이는 그리스도께서 죽은 자 가운데서 살아나셨으매 다시 죽지 아니하시고 사망이 다시 그를 주장하지 못할 줄을 앎이로라

10 그가 죽으심은 죄에 대하여 단번에 죽으심이요 그가 살아 계심은 하나님께 대하여 살아 계심이니

11 이와 같이 너희도 너희 자신을 죄에 대하여는 죽은 자요 그리스도 예수 안에서 하나님께 대하여는 살아 있는 자로 여길지어다

12 ○그러므로 너희는 죄가 너희 죽을 몸을 지배하지 못하게 하여 몸의 사욕에 순종하지 말고
