STAYING IN STEP		함께 발 맞추어
[ Romans 15:5 - 15:7 ] - hymn 331 Accept one another . . . to bring praise to God. [ ROMANS 15:7 ] Lillian Colón, who grew up in an orphanage, beat out four hundred dancers to win a coveted spot on a world-renowned dance team. She performed with that group, with its tightly ordered synchronized choreography, until her mid-forties. Now teaching dance at age seventy, she imparts to students her great-est lesson from precision artistry: Work together. “On and off the stage, our lives are deeply intertwined,” she said, “and we all fare better when we support and care for one another.” The apostle Paul knew the importance of this principle. Harmony in Christ points praise to its true purpose—glorifying God. Paul taught this lesson to believers in Rome, both Jewish and gentile, to encourage their unity. “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had,” he wrote (ROMANS 15:5). This was “so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (V. 6). Competing voices won’t produce this result. Joining together to praise God, with no one person or group discounting another, gives unity in Christ its true purpose. “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you,” wrote Paul, “in order to bring praise to God” (V. 7). When we seek God’s help to do this, He inspires our common voice as we step together and give Him glory. PATRICIA RAYBON		[ 로마서 15:5 - 15:7 ] - 찬송가 331 장 하나님께 영광을 돌리심과 같이 너희도 서로 받으라 [로마서 15:7] 고아원에서 자란 릴리언 콜론은 4백 명의 무용수를 제치고 세계적으로 유명한 무용단의 주요 역할을 맡게 되었습니다. 릴리언은 40대 중반이 될 때까지 그 무용단에 있으면서 정교하게 짜여진 한 동작으로 연출된 안무를 공연했습니다. 현재 일흔의 나이에 학생들에게 무용을 가르치며 이 정교한 예술에서 배운 가장 큰 교훈인 ‘협동’을 전수하고 있습니다. “무대 안이든 밖이든 우리의 삶은 깊이 연계되어 있습니다. 그래서 서로를 도와주고 배려할 때 우리는 모두 더 잘하게 됩니다”라고 그녀는 말합니다. 바울 사도도 이 원칙의 중요성을 잘 알고 있었습니다. 그리스도 안에서 화합을 이룰 때 찬양의 진정한 목적인 하나님께 영광을 돌리게 됩니다. 바울은 로마에 있는 유대인과 이방인 성도들에게 이 교훈을 가르쳐 연합을 이루도록 격려했습니다. 그는 “이제 인내와 위로의 하나님이 너희로 그리스도 예수를 본받아 서로 뜻이 같게 하여 주셨다”(로마서 15:5)고 하면서 이는 “한 마음과 한 입으로 하나님 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하려” 함이라고 썼습니다(6절). 각기 목소리를 내어 경쟁하면 이같은 결과를 만들 수가 없습니다. 한 사람이나 그룹이 다른 이들을 무시하지 않고 함께 하나님을 찬양하는 것이 그리스도 안에서 하나가 되는 진정한 목적입니다. 바울은 “그러므로 그리스도께서 우리를 받아 하나님께 영광을 돌리심과 같이 너희도 서로 받으라”고 말합니다 (7절). 이를 위해 하나님의 도움을 구할 때, 하나님은 우리가 함께 발맞추어 그분께 영광을 돌리며 한 목소리를 내려는 마음을 갖도록 만들어 주십니다.
