16Then the men set out from there, and they looked down toward Sodom. And Abraham went with them to set them on their way. 17 The LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice, so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.” 20 Then the LORD said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, 21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know.” 22 So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the LORD. 23 Then Abraham drew near and said, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” 26 And the LORD said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.” 27 Abraham answered and said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. 28 Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And he said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” 29 Again he spoke to him and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.” 30 Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.” 31 He said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.” 32 Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.” 33 And the LORD went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
16그 사람들이 떠나려고 일어서서, 소돔이 내려다보이는 데로 갔다. 아브라함은 그들을 바래다주려고, 함께 얼마쯤 걸었다. 17 그 때에 주님께서 말씀하셨다. “내가 앞으로 하려고 하는 일을, 어찌 아브라함에게 숨기랴? 18 아브라함은 반드시 크고 강한 나라를 이룰 것이며, 땅 위에 있는 나라마다, 그로 말미암아 복을 받게 될 것이다. 19 내가 아브라함을 선택한 것은, 그가 자식들과 자손을 잘 가르쳐서, 나에게 순종하게 하고, 옳고 바른 일을 하도록 가르치라는 뜻에서 한 것이다. 그의 자손이 아브라함에게 배운 대로 하면, 나는 아브라함에게 약속한 대로 다 이루어 주겠다.” 20 주님께서 또 말씀하셨다. “소돔과 고모라에서 들려오는 저 울부짖는 소리가 너무 크다. 그 안에서 사람들이 엄청난 죄를 저지르고 있다. 21 이제 내가 내려가서, 거기에서 벌어지는 모든 악한 일이 정말 나에게까지 들려 온 울부짖음과 같은 것인지를 알아보겠다.” 22 그 사람들은 거기에서 떠나서 소돔으로 갔으나, 아브라함은 주님 앞에 그대로 서 있었다. 23 아브라함이 주님께 가까이 가서 아뢰었다. “주님께서 의인을 기어이 악인과 함께 쓸어버리시렵니까? 24 그 성 안에 의인이 쉰 명이 있으면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까? 그래도 주님께서는 그 성을 기어이 쓸어버리시렵니까? 의인 쉰 명을 보시고서도, 그 성을 용서하지 않으시렵니까? 25 그처럼 의인을 악인과 함께 죽게 하시는 것은, 주님께서 하실 일이 아닙니다. 의인을 악인과 똑같이 보시는 것도, 주님께서 하실 일이 아닌 줄 압니다. 세상을 심판하시는 분께서는 공정하게 판단하셔야 하지 않겠습니까?” 26 주님께서 대답하셨다. “소돔 성에서 내가 의인 쉰 명만을 찾을 수 있으면, 그들을 보아서라도 그 성 전체를 용서하겠다.” 27 아브라함이 다시 아뢰었다. “티끌이나 재밖에 안 되는 주제에, 제가 주님께 감히 아룁니다. 28 의인이 쉰 명에서 다섯이 모자란다고 하면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까? 다섯이 모자란다고, 성 전체를 다 멸하시겠습니까?” 주님께서 대답하셨다. “내가 거기에서 마흔다섯 명만 찾아도, 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다.” 29 아브라함이 다시 한 번 주님께 아뢰었다. “거기에서 마흔 명만 찾으시면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까?” 주님께서 대답하셨다. “그 마흔 명을 보아서, 내가 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다.” 30 아브라함이 또 아뢰었다. “주님! 노하지 마시고, 제가 말씀드리는 것을 허락하여 주시기 바랍니다. 거기에서 서른 명만 찾으시면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까?” 주님께서 대답하셨다. “거기에서 서른 명만 찾아도, 내가 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다.” 31 아브라함이 다시 아뢰었다. “감히 주님께 아룁니다. 거기에서 스무 명만 찾으시면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까?” 주님께서 대답하셨다. “스무 명을 보아서라도, 내가 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다.” 32 아브라함이 또 아뢰었다. “주님! 노하지 마시고, 제가 한 번만 더 말씀드리게 허락하여 주시기 바랍니다. 거기에서 열 명만 찾으시면, 어떻게 하시겠습니까?” 주님께서 대답하셨다. “열 명을 보아서라도, 내가 그 성을 멸하지 않겠다.” 33 주님께서는 아브라함과 말씀을 마치신 뒤에 곧 가시고, 아브라함도 자기가 사는 곳으로 돌아갔다.
