17Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.
19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.
20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,
23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me.
26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

17진리로 그들을 거룩하게 하여 주십시오. 아버지의 말씀은 진리입니다.
18 아버지께서 나를 세상에 보내신 것과 같이, 나도 그들을 세상으로 보냈습니다.
19 그리고 내가 그들을 위하여 나를 거룩하게 하는 것은, 그들도 진리로 거룩하게 하려는 것입니다.”
20 “나는 이 사람들을 위해서만 비는 것이 아니고, 이 사람들의 말을 듣고 나를 믿는 사람들을 위해서도 빕니다.
21 아버지, 아버지께서 내 안에 계시고, 내가 아버지 안에 있는 것과 같이, 그들도 하나가 되어서 우리 안에 있게 하여 주십시오. 그래서 아버지께서 나를 보내셨다는 것을, 세상이 믿게 하여 주십시오.
22 나는 아버지께서 내게 주신 영광을 그들에게 주었습니다. 그것은, 우리가 하나인 것과 같이, 그들도 하나가 되게 하려는 것입니다.
23 내가 그들 안에 있고, 아버지께서 내 안에 계신 것은, 그들이 완전히 하나가 되게 하려는 것입니다. 그것은 또, 아버지께서 나를 보내셨다는 것과, 아버지께서 나를 사랑하신 것과 같이 그들도 사랑하셨다는 것을, 세상이 알게 하려는 것입니다.
24 아버지, 아버지께서 내게 주신 사람들도, 내가 있는 곳에 나와 함께 있게 하여 주시고, 창세 전부터 아버지께서 나를 사랑하셔서 내게 주신 내 영광을, 그들도 보게 하여 주시기를 빕니다.
25 의로우신 아버지, 세상은 아버지를 알지 못하였으나, 나는 아버지를 알았으며, 이 사람들도 아버지께서 나를 보내신 것을 알고 있습니다.
26 나는 이미 그들에게 아버지의 이름을 알렸으며, 앞으로도 알리겠습니다. 그것은, 아버지께서 나를 사랑하신 그 사랑이 그들 안에 있게 하고, 나도 그들 안에 있게 하려는 것입니다.”

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding
Jesus prayed that his disciples might be sanctified by the word of truth, and for this purpose he became sanctified first. He was praying not just for the disciples but for all who would believe upon hearing the gospel (vv. 17-20). Jesus desired for all believers to become one and for them to dwell in himself (the Son) and the Father so that the world would know the Father and Son. He also prayed that believers would see the Father’s glory, and that they may know and enjoy the Father’s love (vv. 21-26).
예수님은 제자들이 진리의 말씀으로 거룩해지기를 기도하시며, 이를 위해 먼저 자신을 거룩하게 하셨습니다. 이 기도는 제자들뿐 아니라, 그들의 전도를 통해 믿는 모든 신자들을 위한 것입니다(17-20절). 예수님은 신자들이 서로 하나 되어 아들과 아버지 안에 거하고, 이 연합을 통해 세상이 아버지와 아들을 알게 되기를 원하십니다. 또한 신자들이 예수님 계신 곳에서 아버지의 영광 보기를 바라시며, 아버지의 사랑을 알고 누리도록 기도하십니다(21–26절).

Who is Jesus?
V. 24 Jesus prayed that believers would see the Father’s glory. On the Final Day, believers will go to the dwelling place of glory that Jesus has prepared for them in heaven. However, before this happens, we must follow the same path as Jesus, who endured suffering and bore the cross. We will see the Father’s glory not when we seek the glory of the world, but when we seek to serve and sacrifice. What are specific “places” I can dwell with Jesus right now?
예수님은 신자들이 아버지의 영광 보기를 구하십니다. 신자들은 마지막 날 예수님이 하늘에 마련하신 영광의 처소로 갈 것입니다. 그러나 그에 앞서 예수님이 고난받고 십자가를 지신 것과 같은 삶의 현장으로 가야 합니다. 세상의 영광을 구하는 자리가 아니라, 세상을 섬기고 희생하는 자리에 설 때 그곳에서 아버지의 영광을 볼 것입니다. 지금 내가 예수님과 함께 머물 자리는 구체적으로 어디입니까?

Vv. 25-26 Jesus did not just make God’s name known one time, but continues making it known even today. And we can continue being filled with God’s love and joy over time by being one with Jesus. He makes our knowledge, joy, and gratitude grow.
예수님은 아버지의 이름을 한 번 알리고 마는 것이 아니라 계속 알려 주십니다. 그 덕에 우리는 점점 하나님의 사랑으로 충만해지고 우리가 예수님과 연합하며 누리는 기쁨도 더 커질 것입니다. 예수님은 우리의 지식과 기쁨과 감격을 점점 더 크게 하십니다.

Prayer
Lord God, help us to be sanctified by the Word and become a united community in Christ by abiding in you, who are three in one.
