10Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land. 11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, “I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance, 12 and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me, but they will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared for your sake.” 14 When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. 15 And when the princes of Pharaoh saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. 16 And for her sake he dealt well with Abram; and he had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels. 17 But the LORD afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 18 So Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her, and go.” 20 And Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him, and they sent him away with his wife and all that he had.
10그 땅에 기근이 들었다. 그 기근이 너무 심해서, 아브람은 이집트에서 얼마 동안 몸 붙여서 살려고, 그리로 내려갔다. 11 이집트에 가까이 이르렀을 때에, 그는 아내 사래에게 말하였다. “여보, 나는 당신이 얼마나 아리따운 여인인가를 잘 알고 있소. 12 이집트 사람들이 당신을 보고서, 당신이 나의 아내라는 것을 알면, 나는 죽이고 당신은 살릴 것이오. 13 그러니까 당신은 나의 누이라고 하시오. 그렇게 하여야, 내가 당신 덕분에 대접을 잘 받고, 또 당신 덕분에 이 목숨도 부지할 수 있을 거요.” 14 아브람이 이집트에 이르렀을 때에, 이집트 사람들은 아브람의 아내를 보고, 매우 아리따운 여인임을 알았다. 15 바로의 대신들이 그 여인을 보고 나서, 바로 앞에서 그 여인을 칭찬하였다. 드디어 그 여인은 바로의 궁전으로 불려 들어갔다. 16 바로가 그 여인을 보고서, 아브람을 잘 대접하여 주었다. 아브람은 양 떼와 소 떼와 암나귀와 수나귀와 남녀종과 낙타까지 얻었다. 17 그러나 주님께서 아브람의 아내 사래의 일로 바로와 그 집안에 무서운 재앙을 내리셨으므로, 18 바로가 아브람을 불러서 꾸짖었다. “어찌하여 너는 나를 이렇게 대하느냐? 저 여인이 너의 아내라고, 왜 일찍 말하지 않았느냐? 19 어찌하여 너는 저 여인이 네 누이라고 해서 나를 속이고, 내가 저 여인을 아내로 데려오게 하였느냐? 자, 네 아내가 여기 있다. 데리고 나가거라.” 20 그런 다음에 바로는 그의 신하들에게 명하여, 아브람이 모든 재산을 거두어서 그 아내와 함께 나라 밖으로 나가게 하였다.
