31If I alone bear witness about myself, my testimony is not true. 32 There is another who bears witness about me, and I know that the testimony that he bears about me is true. 33 You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 Not that the testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. 36 But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, 38 and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent. 39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. 41 I do not receive glory from people. 42 But I know that you do not have the love of God within you. 43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him. 44 How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”
31“내가 내 자신을 위하여 증언한다면, 내 증언은 참되지 못하다. 32 나를 위하여 증언하여 주시는 분은 따로 있다. 나를 위하여 증언하시는 그 증언이 참되다는 것을 나는 안다. 33 너희가 요한에게 사람을 보냈을 때에 그는 이 진리를 증언하였다. 34 내가 이 말을 하는 것은, 내가 사람의 증언이 필요해서가 아니다. 그것은 다만 너희로 하여금 구원을 얻게 하려는 것이다. 35 요한은 타오르면서 빛을 내는 등불이었다. 너희는 잠시 동안 그의 빛 속에서 즐거워하려 하였다. 36 그러나 나에게는 요한의 증언보다 더 큰 증언이 있다. 아버지께서 나에게 완성하라고 주신 일들, 곧 내가 지금 하고 있는 바로 그 일들이, 아버지께서 나를 보내셨다는 것을 증언하여 준다. 37 또 나를 보내신 아버지께서 친히 나를 위하여 증언하여 주셨다. 너희는 그 음성을 들은 일도 없고, 그 모습을 본 일도 없다. 38 또 그 말씀이 너희 속에 머물러 있지도 않다. 그것은 너희가, 그분이 보내신 이를 믿지 않기 때문이다. 39 너희가 성경을 연구하는 것은, 영원한 생명이 그 안에 있다고 생각하기 때문이다. 성경은 나에 대하여 증언하고 있다. 40 그런데 너희는 생명을 얻으러 나에게 오려고 하지 않는다. 41 나는 사람에게서 영광을 받지 않는다. 42 너희에게 하나님을 사랑하는 마음이 없는 것도, 나는 알고 있다. 43 내가 내 아버지의 이름으로 왔는데, 너희는 나를 영접하지 않는다. 그러나 다른 이가 자기 이름으로 오면 너희는 그를 영접할 것이다. 44 너희는 서로 영광을 주고받으면서 오직 한 분이신 하나님께서 주시는 영광은 구하지 않으니, 어떻게 믿을 수 있겠느냐? 45 내가 너희를 아버지께 고발하리라고는 생각하지 말아라. 너희를 고발하는 이는 너희가 희망을 걸어온 모세이다. 46 너희가 모세를 믿었더라면 나를 믿었을 것이다. 모세가 나를 두고 썼기 때문이다. 47 그러나 너희가 모세의 글을 믿지 않으니, 어떻게 내 말을 믿겠느냐?”
