1So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb. 2 Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. 3 And he journeyed on from the Negeb as far as Bethel to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, 4 to the place where he had made an altar at the first. And there Abram called upon the name of the LORD. 5 And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents, 6 so that the land could not support both of them dwelling together; for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together, 7 and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land. 8 Then Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.” 10 And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) 11 So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other. 12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom. 13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the LORD. 14 The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, 15 for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. 16 I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted. 17 Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.” 18 So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD.
1아브람은 이집트를 떠나서, 네겝으로 올라갔다. 그는 아내를 데리고서, 모든 소유를 가지고 이집트를 떠났다. 조카 롯도 그와 함께 갔다. 2 아브람은 집짐승과 은과 금이 많은 큰 부자가 되었다. 3 그는 네겝에서는 얼마 살지 않고 그 곳을 떠나, 이곳저곳으로 떠돌아다니다가, 베델 부근에 이르렀다. 그 곳은 베델과 아이 사이에 있는, 예전에 장막을 치고 살던 곳이다. 4 그 곳은 그가 처음으로 제단을 쌓은 곳이다. 거기에서 아브람은 주님의 이름을 부르며, 예배를 드렸다. 5 아브람과 함께 다니는 롯에게도, 양 떼와 소 떼와 장막이 따로 있었다. 6 그러나 그 땅은 그들이 함께 머물기에는 좁았다. 그들은 재산이 너무 많아서, 그 땅에서 함께 머물 수가 없었다. 7 아브람의 집짐승을 치는 목자들과 롯의 집짐승을 치는 목자들 사이에, 다툼이 일어나곤 하였다. 그 때에 그 땅에는, 가나안 사람들과 브리스 사람들도 살고 있었다. 8 아브람이 롯에게 말하였다. “너와 나 사이에, 그리고 너의 목자들과 나의 목자들 사이에, 어떠한 다툼도 있어서는 안 된다. 우리는 한 핏줄이 아니냐! 9 네가 보는 앞에 땅이 얼마든지 있으니, 따로 떨어져 살자. 네가 왼쪽으로 가면 나는 오른쪽으로 가고, 네가 오른쪽으로 가면 나는 왼쪽으로 가겠다.” 10 롯이 멀리 바라보니, 요단 온 들판이, 소알에 이르기까지, 물이 넉넉한 것이 마치 주님의 동산과도 같고, 이집트 땅과도 같았다. 아직 주님께서 소돔과 고모라를 멸망시키시기 전이었다. 11 롯은 요단의 온 들판을 가지기로 하고, 동쪽으로 떠났다. 이렇게 해서 두 사람은 따로 떨어져서 살게 되었다. 12 아브람은 가나안 땅에서 살고, 롯은 평지의 여러 성읍을 돌아다니면서 살다가, 소돔 가까이에 이르러서 자리를 잡았다. 13 소돔 사람들은 악하였으며, 주님을 거슬러서, 온갖 죄를 짓고 있었다. 14 롯이 아브람을 떠나간 뒤에, 주님께서 아브람에게 말씀하셨다. “너 있는 곳에서 눈을 크게 뜨고, 북쪽과 남쪽, 동쪽과 서쪽을 보아라. 15 네 눈에 보이는 이 모든 땅을, 내가 너와 네 자손에게 아주 주겠다. 16 내가 너의 자손을 땅의 먼지처럼 셀 수 없이 많아지게 하겠다. 누구든지 땅의 먼지를 셀 수 있는 사람이 있다면, 너의 자손을 셀 수 있을 것이다. 17 내가 이 땅을 너에게 주니, 너는 가서, 길이로도 걸어 보고, 너비로도 걸어 보아라.” 18 아브람은 장막을 거두어서, 헤브론의 마므레, 곧 상수리나무들이 있는 곳으로 가서, 거기에서 살았다. 거기에서도 그는 주님께 제단을 쌓아서 바쳤다.
