17and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. 19 Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” 20 Many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek. 21 So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but rather, ‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.’” 22 Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.” 23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, 24 so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfill the Scripture which says, “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” So the soldiers did these things, 25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
17예수께서 십자가를 지시고 ‘해골’이라 하는 데로 가셨다. 그 곳은 히브리 말로 골고다라고 하였다. 18 거기서 그들은 예수를 십자가에 못 박았다. 그리고 다른 두 사람도 예수와 함께 십자가에 달아서, 예수를 가운데로 하고, 좌우에 세웠다. 19 빌라도는 또한 명패도 써서, 십자가에 붙였다. 그 명패에는 ‘유대인의 왕 나사렛 사람 예수’ 라고 썼다. 20 예수께서 십자가에 달리신 곳은 도성에서 가까우므로, 많은 유대 사람이 이 명패를 읽었다. 그것은, 히브리 말과 로마 말과 그리스 말로 적혀 있었다. 21 유대 사람들의 대제사장들이 빌라도에게 말하기를 “‘유대인의 왕’이라고 쓰지 말고, ‘자칭 유대인의 왕’이라고 쓰십시오” 하였으나, 22 빌라도는 “나는 쓸 것을 썼다” 하고 대답하였다. 23 병정들이 예수를 십자가에 못 박은 뒤에, 그의 옷을 가져다가 네 몫으로 나누어서, 한 사람이 한 몫씩 차지하였다. 그리고 속옷은 이음새 없이 위에서 아래까지 통째로 짠 것이므로 24 그들은 서로 말하기를 “이것은 찢지 말고, 누가 차지할지 제비를 뽑자” 하였다. 이는 ‘그들이 나의 겉옷을 서로 나누어 가지고, 나의 속옷을 놓고서는 제비를 뽑았다’ 하는 성경 말씀이 이루어지게 하려는 것이었다. 그러므로 병정들이 이런 일을 하였다. 25 그런데 예수의 십자가 곁에는 예수의 어머니와 이모와 글로바의 아내 마리아와 막달라 사람 마리아가 서 있었다. 26 예수께서는 자기 어머니와 그 곁에 서 있는 사랑하는 제자를 보시고, 어머니에게 “어머니, 이 사람이 어머니의 아들입니다” 하고 말씀하시고, 27 그 다음에 제자에게는 “자, 이분이 네 어머니시다” 하고 말씀하셨다. 그 때부터 그 제자는 그를 자기 집으로 모셨다.
