36Then Jacob became angry and berated Laban. Jacob said to Laban, “What is my offense? What is my sin, that you have hotly pursued me? 37 For you have felt through all my goods; what have you found of all your household goods? Set it here before my kinsmen and your kinsmen, that they may decide between us two. 38 These twenty years I have been with you. Your ewes and your female goats have not miscarried, and I have not eaten the rams of your flocks. 39 What was torn by wild beasts I did not bring to you. I bore the loss of it myself. From my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. 40 There I was: by day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes. 41 These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times. 42 If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been on my side, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God saw my affliction and the labor of my hands and rebuked you last night.” 43 Then Laban answered and said to Jacob, “The daughters are my daughters, the children are my children, the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine. But what can I do this day for these my daughters or for their children whom they have borne? 44 Come now, let us make a covenant, you and I. And let it be a witness between you and me.” 45 So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar. 46 And Jacob said to his kinsmen, “Gather stones.” And they took stones and made a heap, and they ate there by the heap. 47 Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed. 48 Laban said, “This heap is a witness between you and me today.” Therefore he named it Galeed, 49 and Mizpah, for he said, “The LORD watch between you and me, when we are out of one another's sight. 50 If you oppress my daughters, or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no one is with us, see, God is witness between you and me.” 51 Then Laban said to Jacob, “See this heap and the pillar, which I have set between you and me. 52 This heap is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and you will not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, to do harm. 53 The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us.” So Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac, 54 and Jacob offered a sacrifice in the hill country and called his kinsmen to eat bread. They ate bread and spent the night in the hill country. 55 Early in the morning Laban arose and kissed his grandchildren and his daughters and blessed them. Then Laban departed and returned home.
36야곱은 화를 내며 라반에게 따졌다. 야곱이 라반에게 물었다. “저의 허물이 무엇입니까? 제가 무슨 죄를 지었다고, 불길처럼 달려들어서, 저를 따라오신 것입니까? 37 장인어른께서 저의 물건을 다 뒤져 보셨는데, 장인어른의 물건을 하나라도 찾으셨습니까? 장인어른의 친족과 저의 친족이 보는 앞에서, 그것을 내놓아 보십시오. 그리고 장인어른과 저 사이에 누구에게 잘못이 있는지, 이 사람들이 판단할 수 있게 해주십시오. 38 제가 무려 스무 해를 장인어른과 함께 지냈습니다. 그 동안 장인어른의 양 떼와 염소 떼가 한 번도 낙태한 일이 없고, 제가 장인어른의 가축 떼에서 숫양 한 마리도 잡아다가 먹은 일이 없습니다. 39 들짐승에게 찢긴 놈은, 제가 장인어른께 가져가지 않고, 제 것으로 그것을 보충하여 드렸습니다. 낮에 도적을 맞든지 밤에 도적을 맞든지 하면, 장인어른께서는 저더러 그것을 물어내라고 하셨습니다. 40 낮에는 더위에 시달리고, 밤에는 추위에 떨면서, 눈 붙일 겨를도 없이 지낸 것, 이것이 바로 저의 형편이었습니다. 41 저는 장인어른의 집에서 스무 해를 한결같이 이렇게 살았습니다. 두 따님을 저의 처로 삼느라고, 십 년 하고도 사 년을 장인어른의 일을 해 드렸고, 지난 여섯 해 동안은 장인어른의 양 떼를 돌보았습니다. 그러나 장인어른께서는 저에게 주셔야 할 품삯을 열 번이나 바꿔치셨습니다. 42 내 조상의 하나님, 곧 아브라함을 보살펴 주신 하나님이시며, 이삭을 지켜 주신 ‘두려운 분’께서 저와 함께 계시지 않으셨으면, 장인어른께서는 저를 틀림없이 빈손으로 돌려보내셨을 것입니다. 그러나 하나님은, 제가 겪은 고난과 제가 한 수고를 몸소 살피시고, 어젯밤에 장인어른을 꾸짖으셨습니다.” 43 라반이 야곱에게 대답하였다. “이 여자들은 나의 딸이요, 이 아이들은 다 나의 손자 손녀요, 이 가축 떼도 다 내 것일세. 자네의 눈앞에 있는 것이 모두 내 것이 아닌가? 그러나 여기 있는 나의 딸들과 그들이 낳은 나의 손자 손녀를, 이제 내가 어떻게 하겠는가? 44 이리 와서, 자네와 나 사이에 언약을 세우고, 그 언약이 우리 사이에 증거가 되게 하세.” 45 그래서 야곱이 돌을 가져 와서 그것으로 기둥을 세우고, 46 또 친족들에게도 돌을 모으게 하니, 그들이 돌을 가져 와서 돌무더기를 만들고, 그 돌무더기 옆에서 잔치를 벌이고, 함께 먹었다. 47 라반은 그 돌무더기를 여갈사하두다라고 하고, 야곱은 그것을 갈르엣이라 하였다. 48 라반이 말하였다. “이 돌무더기가 오늘 자네와 나 사이에 맺은 언약의 증거일세.” 갈르엣이란 이름은 바로 여기에서 유래한 것이다. 49 이 돌무더기를 달리 미스바라고도 하는데, 그것은 라반이 “우리가 서로 떨어져 있는 동안에, 주님께서 자네와 나를 감시하시기 바라네” 하고 말하였기 때문이다. 50 “자네가 나의 딸들을 박대하거나, 나의 딸들을 두고서 달리 아내들을 얻으면, 자네와 나 사이에는 아무도 없다고 하더라도, 하나님이 자네와 나 사이에 증인으로 계시다는 것을 명심하게.” 51 라반은 야곱에게 또 다짐하였다. “이 돌무더기를 보게. 그리고 내가 자네와 나 사이에다 세운 이 돌기둥을 보게. 52 이 돌무더기가 증거가 되고, 이 돌기둥이 증거가 될 것이네. 내가 이 돌무더기를 넘어 자네 쪽으로 가서 자네를 치지 않을 것이니, 자네도 또한 이 돌무더기와 이 돌기둥을 넘어 내가 있는 쪽으로 와서 나를 치지 말게. 53 아브라함의 하나님, 나홀의 하나님, 그들의 조상의 하나님이 우리 사이를 판가름하여 주시기를 바라네.” 그러자 야곱은 그의 아버지 이삭을 지켜 주신 ‘두려운 분’의 이름으로 맹세하였다. 54 야곱은 거기 산에서 제사를 드리고, 친족들을 식탁에 초대하였다. 그들은 산에서 제사 음식을 함께 먹고, 거기에서 그 날 밤을 보냈다. 55 라반은 다음날 아침 일찍 일어나, 자기 손자 손녀들과 딸들에게 입을 맞추고, 그들에게 축복하고, 길을 떠나서 고향으로 돌아갔다.
