1Behold, the LORD will empty the earth and make it desolate, and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants. 2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the slave, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor. 3 The earth shall be utterly empty and utterly plundered; for the LORD has spoken this word. 4 The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and withers; the highest people of the earth languish. 5 The earth lies defiled under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt; therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched, and few men are left. 7 The wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted sigh. 8 The mirth of the tambourines is stilled, the noise of the jubilant has ceased, the mirth of the lyre is stilled. 9 No more do they drink wine with singing; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it. 10 The wasted city is broken down; every house is shut up so that none can enter. 11 There is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine; all joy has grown dark; the gladness of the earth is banished. 12 Desolation is left in the city; the gates are battered into ruins. 13 For thus it shall be in the midst of the earth among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, as at the gleaning when the grape harvest is done.
1주님께서 땅을 텅 비게 하시며, 황폐하게 하시며, 땅의 표면을 뒤엎으시며, 그 주민을 흩으실 것이니, 2 이 일이 백성과 제사장에게 똑같이 미칠 것이며, 종과 그 주인에게, 하녀와 그 안주인에게, 사는 자와 파는 자에게, 빌려 주는 자와 빌리는 자에게, 이자를 받는 자와 이자를 내는 자에게, 똑같이 미칠 것이다. 3 땅이 완전히 텅 비며, 완전히 황무하게 될 것이다. 주님께서 그렇게 된다고 선언하셨기 때문이다. 4 땅이 메마르며 시든다. 세상이 생기가 없고 시든다. 땅에서 높은 자리를 차지한 자들도 생기가 없다. 5 땅이 사람 때문에 더럽혀진다. 사람이 율법을 어기고 법령을 거슬러서, 영원한 언약을 깨뜨렸기 때문이다. 6 그러므로 땅은 저주를 받고, 거기에서 사는 사람이 형벌을 받는다. 그러므로 땅의 주민들이 불에 타서, 살아남는 자가 얼마 되지 않을 것이다. 7 새 포도주가 마르며, 포도나무가 시든다. 마음에 기쁨이 가득 찼던 사람들이 모두 탄식한다. 8 소구를 치는 흥겨움도 그치고, 기뻐 뛰는 소리도 멎고, 수금 타는 기쁨도 그친다. 9 그들이 다시는 노래하며 포도주를 마시지 못할 것이고, 독한 술은 그 마시는 자에게 쓰디쓸 것이다. 10 무너진 성읍은 황폐한 그대로 있고, 집들은 모두 닫혀 있으며, 들어가는 사람이 하나도 없을 것이다. 11 거리에서는 포도주를 찾아 아우성 치고, 모든 기쁨은 슬픔으로 바뀌고, 땅에서는 즐거움이 사라진다. 12 성읍은 폐허가 된 채로 버려져 있고, 성문은 파괴되어 조각난다. 13 이 땅에 이러한 일이 일어나고 거기에 사는 백성에게 이러한 일이 일어날 것이니, 마치 올리브 나무를 떤 다음과 같고, 포도나무에서 포도를 걷은 뒤에 남은 것을 주울 때와 같을 것이다.
